Weni, o velho : o problema de uma (auto)biografia egípcia no Reino Antigo tardio

Balém, Wellington Rafael January 2017 (has links)
This work aims to understand the social, cultural and political aspects that involve the existence of a senior official, namely Weni the Elder, as well as the social production of this autobiography in the Late Old Kingdom. For this, we divide this work in three moments. In the first one, we present a historical context, with emphasis on processes related to the administration and religious and funeral practices. We than proceed to analyze the formal and symbolical of the subject studied’s autobiography, as well as events narrated in the document. Finally, we propose an interpretation of the Weni’s trajectory that overcomes the problems of his purely textual analysis from the visuality and materiality of the autobiography.

Simultaneous estimation of population size changes and splits times using importance sampling

Forest, Marie January 2014 (has links)
The genome is a treasure trove of information about the history of an individual, his population, and his species. For as long as genomic data have been available, methods have been developed to retrieve this information and learn about population history. Over the last decade, large international genomic projects (e.g. the HapMap Project and the 1000 Genomes Project) have offered access to high quality data collected from thousands of individuals from a vast number of populations. Freely available to all, these databases offer the possibility to develop new methods to uncover the history of the peopling of the world by modern humans. Due to the complexity of the problem and the large amount of available data, all developed methods either simplify the model with strong assumptions or use an approximation; they also dramatically down-sample their data by either using fewer individuals or only portions of the genome. In this thesis, we present a novel method to jointly estimate the time of divergence of a pair of populations and their variable sizes, a previously unsolved problem. The method uses multiple regions of the genome with low recombination rate. For each region, we use an importance sampler to build a large number of possible genealogies, and from those we estimate the likelihood function of parameters of interest. By modelling the population sizes as piecewise constant within fixed time intervals, we aim to capture population size variation through time. We show via simulation studies that the method performs well in many situations, even when the model assumptions are not totally met. We apply the method to five populations from the 1000 Genomes Project, obtaining estimates of split times between European groups and among Europe, Africa and Asia. We also infer shared and non-shared bottlenecks in out-of- Africa groups, expansions following population separations, and the sizes of ancestral populations further back in time.

A África por ela mesma: a perspectiva africana na História Geral da África (UNESCO) / Africa by itself: the african perspective in the collection General History of Africa (UNESCO)

Barbosa, Muryatan Santana 15 October 2012 (has links)
This thesis presents an analysis of the African perspective in the project General History of Africa (UNESCO). It examines the institutional history of the project and the writing of history in this collection of eight volumes. Such considerations have led to the definition of the African perspective as a perspective that focuses on the internal factors of the continent, as opposed to external ones, in its scientific explanation of Africa history. In addition, this study concluded that this perspective unfolds into three complementary approaches of the General History of Africa (GHA): a) regionalism b) intra-African diffusionism c) African subject. This analysis provides the basis for a discussion on some theoretical and methodological outcomes that such an African perspective brings to a scientific view on the history of Africa that is contemporary and potentially post-Eurocentric.

Ohlasy dekonstrukce v recentní historiografii dějin umění / Reception of Deconstruction in Recent Art Historiography

Grygarová, Dominika January 2012 (has links)
The reception of deconstruction in recent art historiography The aim of the presented master thesis is to outline the reception of deconstruction in the contemporary art historiography and the introduction of its effects on the discipline of art history. The work deals with the term deconstruction in the sense of (1) the original philisophical and critical writing of Jacques Derrida, and (2) the method, which was implemented to literary studies at the end of the 70s and later on to other humanities, including the art history. First, theoretical part of the thesis introduces Derrida's thoughts, epistemology and the strategy of deconstruction. Second part reflects the epistemological changes a implementation of the deconstructive criticism into the art history. After imbedding the "deconstructive" current into the broader development of art history and reading of some methodological handbooks, we turn to concrete works of some art historians and their individual uses of the deconstructive implulses, namely Donald Preziosi, Norman Bryson, Michael Ann Holly, Keith Moxey, and to a lesser extend also W. J. T. Mitchell, Craig Owens, Rosalind Krauss, Stephen Melville, Donald Crimp, David Carrier and Victor Burgin. As opposed to the original derridian deconstruction, in its aplied form (art history,...
