21st Century Foresight offers a comprehensive study of ‘foresight’ as an instrument of policy. It covers the development of foresight methodology, the design of foresight activities and their evaluation. The thesis is based on eleven publications collectively making significant contributions to knowledge about global foresight practices and applications in different domains (i.e. research areas and socio-economic sectors). New conceptual frameworks developed include the Foresight Diamond, the SMART Futures Jigsaw and the Methods Combination Matrix (MCM), which can be used as tools for futures research, practical work in the design and management of forward-looking activities and knowledge transfer on foresight. The thesis shows both generalised and specific contributions to knowledge. The former is best demonstrated with the development of a “fully-fledged evaluation” framework with twenty criteria, the identification of critical factors influencing the selection of foresight methods (e.g. geo-R&D context) and the use of network analysis techniques in foresight. The latter is prominent throughout the thesis with examples including the results of particular evaluations and the profiles of foresight practices in Europe and Latin America. A prevailing theme is the use of mapping and benchmarking approaches to evaluate foresight practices and reveal a more detailed understanding of the impacts of foresight in science, technology and innovation systems. The theoretical contributions (e.g. using exploratory research and catastrophe theory) are complemented with a set of practical instruments providing methodological basis and guidelines for increasing the efficiency and outcome of foresight and horizon scanning activities. Overall, the thesis demonstrates original contributions to five distinct yet interconnected areas of knowledge: foresight methodology; foresight practices in Europe and the world; foresight in Latin America; foresight evaluation; and the evaluation of national technology foresight programmes. The various approaches used to frame the morphology of foresight – supported with evidence, comparisons and evaluations – are the main contributions to knowledge.

Baigiamajame darbe yra išnagrinėti dažniausiai pasaulyje naudojami eismo įvykių sukeltos ekonominės žalos vertinimo metodai, aprašytos žmogaus gyvybės vertinimo metodikos, pateiktos skirtingose šalyse apskaičiuotos eismo įvykio sukeltos ekonominės žalos reikšmės. Naudojant dvi skirtingas eismo įvykio sukeltos žalos vertinimo metodikas bei naudojant 2009 metų statistinius duomenis apskaičiuotos tais metais Lietuvoje eismo įvykių padarytos ekonominės žalos reikšmės. Yra apskaičiuotos vieno eismo įvykio vidutinė žalos reikšmė bei visų eismo įvykių, kuriuose žuvo arba nukentėjo žmonės žalos reikšmės. Darbo pabaigoje yra padarytos išvados dėl išnagrinėtų metodikų tinkamumo Lietuvai bei pateikti pasiūlymai kur šios metodikos galėtų būti panaudotos. / In the graduation dissertation methods, that are the most frequently used over the world, for estimating road accident economic losses are overviewed, methods for evaluation of human life are described and also there are given road accident economic losses monetary values in different countries. Using two different methods for an economic evaluation of road accident losses and using 2009 statistics monetary values of economic losses, which occurred during that year because of road accidents, were calculated. An average cost of a single road accident and also the cost of all road accidents, where people were killed or injured, were calculated. In the end of the dissertation conclusions are made about the suitability of the researched methods for Lithuania and also there are given proposals where these methods could be applied.

It finds in composite resins, constantly used for dentists, a way to repair imperfections and losses of human dental material. The composed resin choice in substituion to the old restoration materials, as the amalgamates, it is for the fact of being easy to prepare, to present less wear, to be practically invisible after its application due to great amount of colors supplied for the manufacturers. However they do not show similar wear as the dental enamel, being necessary the substitution after a while, due to the abrasive wear. Among some determinative factors of the process of abrasive wear, there are, generically, the characteristics of the resin and the cavitary preparation, as well as the confectioned restoration and the conditions of the aggressions that it is submitted. To make the measurement of the resistance to the abrasive wear, the method of the rectified circular surface improved for odontology was used (COELHO, 1991; BIANCHI et al., 2002). The thesis deals with the project of the construction of the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant, as an optimal new production source of electrical energy to ensure the majority of the coverage of the growing electric consumption in the Czech Republic and to ensure the state energy independence in the future. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the methods of strategic investments evaluation. Emphasis is placed on the dynamic methods, which are also working with the factors of time and risk, which are relevant in this case, because the project time horizon is 70 years. The investment project is evaluated from the perspective of owners, as well as from the overall perspective of owners and creditors. The Monte-Carlo method was implemented into the model to support the decision-making process and to move closer to reality. The method assigns the relevant distribution division to the model input values. The output is the set of available values, and the probability of their occurrence. The main thesis objective lies in the decision of the decision maker with a neutral attitude to risk, whether accept the investment or not.

Master’s thesis deals with the determination of the amount of insurance benefit after the fire of holiday cottage in Luleč. The theoretical part focuses on the basic definitions of concepts from the area of real estates and insurance. The practical part is concerned with the valuation of judged building by cost method, determining costs of the required repairs and also finding out the new insurance value of the holiday cottage.

This diploma thesis was focused on determination of the company value in the chosen company. For this purpose was chosen two mostly used methods on the Czech market. First one was method of discounted cash flow and the second one was method of the economic added value. Main sources for all the calculation were annual reports and financial statements for the period of five last years from 2011 to 2015. These basis were used for developing a prediction for the following five year period till 2020.

The Master's thesis deals with the topic of evaluation and development of employees within conditions of a trading company distributing detergents and the analysis of the current situation of the evaluation and development system in this company. On the basis of findings, the thesis includes a proposal for solving problems in the company by introducing the Standard Investors in People into the company.
