Natural Interaction Programming with Microsoft Kinect

Moses, Andrew January 2011 (has links)
This report has the purpose of exploring the area of developing a natural interaction game using Microsoft Kinect. The launch of Kinect for Microsoft Xbox 360 has given us hardware for tracking humans, face recognition, speech recognition and 3D reconstruction for a relatively cheap price. This has created other areas of usage for Kinect than just in the area of games for Xbox. In this report I find out which development tools that are available today for developing applications for the PC platform and what they offer. I also choose one of them and develop a game with it with the purpose of evaluating the tool and also for getting the experience of creating an application with a natural user interface. The report is also part of a pre-study to introduce natural user interface applications into a game course at the university. This raises some requirements on the tools and therefore many of the discussions and results are with those requirements in mind. Those requirements being mainly that the tools should be available on the Windows platform and that they should be easy to use. The results shows that the area of developing natural interaction applications is new and therefore the tools available today are not totally mature yet. There are free tools from open source communities and tools from companies that you have to purchase to use. Both of them are trying to find their own way when it comes to the features and distribution of the tools and therefore which way to take is not obvious. Also developing a natural user interface is not always that straight forward. When there are no buttons available at all, it changes what you can do and how you do things. I will share my experiences and thoughts of both the development tools and the game I created throughout the report.

An approach to choosing the right distributed file system : Microsoft DFS vs. Hadoop DFS

Musatoiu, Mihai January 2015 (has links)
Context. An important goal of most IT groups is to manage server resources in such a way that their users are provided with fast, reliable and secure access to files. The modern needs of organizations imply that resources are often distributed geographically, asking for new design solutions for the file systems to remain highly available and efficient. This is where distributed file systems (DFSs) come into the picture. A distributed file system (DFS), as opposed to a "classical", local, file system, is accessible across some kind of network and allows clients to access files remotely as if they were stored locally. Objectives. This paper has the goal of comparatively analyzing two distributed file systems, Microsoft DFS (MSDFS) and Hadoop DFS (HDFS). The two systems come from different "worlds" (proprietary - Microsoft DFS - vs. open-source - Hadoop DFS); the abundance of solutions and the variety of choices that exist today make such a comparison more relevant. Methods. The comparative analysis is done on a cluster of 4 computers running dual-installations of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 (the MSDFS environment) and Linux Ubuntu 14.04 (the HDFS environment). The comparison is done on read and write operations on files and sets of files of increasing sizes, as well as on a set of key usage scenarios. Results. Comparative results are produced for reading and writing operations of files of increasing size - 1 MB, 2 MB, 4 MB and so on up to 4096 MB - and of sets of small files (64 KB each) amounting to totals of 128 MB, 256 MB and so on up to 4096 MB. The results expose the behavior of the two DFSs on different types of stressful activities (when the size of the transferred file increases, as well as when the quantity of data is divided into (tens of) thousands of many small files). The behavior in the case of key usage scenarios is observed and analyzed. Conclusions. HDFS performs better at writing large files, while MSDFS is better at writing many small files. At read operations, the two show similar performance, with a slight advantage for MSDFS. In the key usage scenarios, HDFS shows more flexibility, but MSDFS could be the better choice depending on the needs of the users (for example, most of the common functions can be configured through the graphical user interface).

Portálové řešení sdílení informací a dokumentů v organizaci / Portal Solution to Conveying Information and Documents in an Organization

Kozelka, David January 2007 (has links)
This dissertation works with data and information theory and describes several technological approaches for data and information sharing. These approaches are evaluated and compared to specific situations in companies. Dissertation deeply describes portal concept of the information and documents sharing which is described using SharePoint technology. Dissertation summarizes history and evolution of the SharePoint technology and describes the architecture and system functionalities. The functionalities ale described using implementation project in real company. Dissertation describes the implementation from the user requirements point of view, project management point of view and focuses on the point of view of development with concrete implementation tasks. Dissertation also brings project evaluation in terms of costs and company payoffs. It also recommends what to avoid for ensuring the successful implementation.

Multimediální podpora ve výuce aplikací Microsoft Office / Teaching Microsoft Office using multimedia

Jirák, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
The thesis Teaching Microsoft Office using multimedia assesses the possibilities of creating multimedia teaching materials for Microsoft Office software suite. The partial goals include publication on YouTube.com, creation of text support materials, analyzing the availability of educational video materials for Microsoft Office in Czech Republic and abroad, and theoretical analysis of software used in practical part. One of the most interesting results from theoretical part is the amount of online content that exists in video format. Currently it makes up more than 50% of the consumed content and by 2019 it should be up to 80%. Currently, the average user in Czech Republic spends almost 30 hours each month consuming content from YouTube. In the practical part, the author selected the methodology and correct hardware and software equipment for creation of video materials. It was also necessary to create screenplay to ensure the required quality of the final product. Finally, it was necessary to edit created materials in a nonlinear editing program. For this purpose, the author chose Adobe Premiere Pro 2015.1. Next step was to create the appropriate YouTube channel called Abeceda Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office Alphabet) and upload video to it. After that, the author performed pilot tests on a sample of high school students.

Student teachers and Microsoft Word's Equation Editor

Jansen, Junqueira, Karen Elize January 2006 (has links)
Published Article / Mathematics teachers need an uncomplicated yet effective programme that they can use to type documents that contain mathematical symbols and notation. Many such programmes exist on the market, but are costly and in most cases, difficult to use. Microsoft Word's Equation Editor provides a solution to this problem in that it is easy to use and readily available in the Microsoft package. An investigation into how third-year education students respond to the presentation and use of this programme was made. The research was executed in the form of a case study, as only third-year mathematics students from the School of Teacher Education at the Central University of Technology, Free State, participated. It was found that these students grasped the concepts needed to use the Equation Editor quite easily, although the level of application by the academically stronger group of students was much higher than the level reached by the weaker academic group.

Svenska organisationers utnyttjande av ny teknik : En studie om svenska kommuners IT-avdelningars syn på ny teknik och deras faktiska handhavande

Rikardsson, Douglas, Källqvist, Erik January 2015 (has links)
