Qt vs. ElectronA Point Cloud Performance Comparison &Investigation of the Qt Framework

Stenius, Robin January 2022 (has links)
Frameworks for developing cross-platform applications come in many forms, and depending on thefunctionality of the developed application, some platforms may be a better choice. Applications workingwith point cloud models consist of huge amounts of data points, created by scanning an objectwith a laser scanner which can then be loaded into the software for display and interaction. This study looks at performance differences between two cross-platform desktop application frameworks,Qt and Electron, working with point clouds by performing an experiment. Two prototypeswere used to measure the differences in the time it takes to create the point cloud, allocated memoryfor the data points, and also the average frames per second achieved throughout a rotation sequenceinitiated on the point cloud. This study is conducted on-sight at an organization currently using theQt framework and wanted to investigate potential differences with an HTML5 framework. This studyalso investigates what expert practitioners working with the Qt framework experience its strength andlimitations are, by conducting semi-structured interviews to gain in-depth knowledge. This study found that the differences between the frameworks can not be drawn clearly, as thereare a lot of variables influencing performance outcomes. However, under these conditions Qt generallyperformed better on all occasions. Performance is one way to measure an application and framework, and this study found that working with the Qt framework has its strong points as well as weaknesses. The performance and cross-platform capabilities of Qt are well-liked, but it can come at the cost ofpoor documentation and high complexity of developing bigger applications. Using QtQuick (QML) todevelop the GUI is generally appreciated for how it separates the front-end GUI from C++ togetherwith the available modules. However, it can take time to learn QML and may not completely removethe need of C++ development.

Jornalismo em contexto de convergência : implicações da distribuição multiplataforma na ampliação dos contratos de comunicação dos dispositivos de Zero Hora / Journalism in context of convergence: implications of multiplatform distribution in the expansion of the contracts of communication of devices in “Zero Hora”

Belochio, Vivian de Carvalho January 2012 (has links)
This research was aimed at investigating how the performance of multiplatform production instance of the company "Zero Hora" in the context of convergence journalism, the contracts of communication, offered to its public, are extended. Is considered the hypothesis that when a communication vehicle launches traditional versions of their products on the web and mobile media such as mobile phones and tablets, among others, adapt its work to the capabilities and peculiarities of these contexts. Accordingly, increases the chances of relationship with the public. Thus, it may be creating new "devices" and also differentiated communication contracts. To reflect on it, the research considers approaches of Charaudeau (2007, 2008, 2010) on the communication contract in journalism. The possible changes in times of convergence are discussed considering the analyzes of authors such as Jenkins (2001, 2008), Pavlik and Mcintosh (2011), Domingo et. al. Near ultrasonic close range communication for modern smartphones

Alvarez Jörgensen, Kristian, Chlebek, Michael January 2017 (has links)
NFC is a technology that allows close-range communication between mobile devices. Unfortunately, not all modern smartphones have the required API’s or hardware to utilize it. This thesis seeks therefore to develop a viable alternative to NFC for close range communication (less than 10 cm) between mobile smart phones. The goal is to evaluate the feasibility of using a novel scheme that utilizes near ultrasonic frequencies for close range communication for both Android and iOS.An iPhone and an Android device were used to test our proposed scheme. Range test were preformed on a quiet and noisy environment (food court in a shopping mall), and an interference test was done in the quiet environment. The scheme was shown to work in the tested quiet and noisy environment for ranges less than 1 cm. In the noisy environment, significant data loss happened at 5 cm for the tested android device, while data was somewhat reliably received at up to 10 cm in a quiet environment among both tested devices. Our tests also show that concurrently communicating devices spaced at least 110 cm away will not interfere with each other. Our findings show that the proposed scheme could be a viable alternative for close range communication. By employing an error correcting code, tolerance to data loss could be improved. Using a different modulation technique is also advisable in order to improve the data transfer rate. For future work, we suggest testing the near ultrasonic capabilities of a wider array of devices in order to determine the usefulness of the proposed scheme.
