Festivalernas Intåg : Korröfestivalen – en bordunstämmas resa genom festivaliseringen

Ludvigsson, Josefine January 2008 (has links)
Title: Festivalernas Intåg – Korröfestivalen- en bordunstämmas resa genom festivaliseringen The Korrö festival- The establishment of a Swedish Folk Music Festival. This thesis describes how folk music festivals have been escalating during the past few and how they have influenced Swedish folk music. To reach my results I have been studying one festival in particular which is the Korrö Folk Music Festival. This event started in the mid-eighties as a small happening that attracted almost exclusively musicians that were a part of the bordooon movement. The bordoon movement gathered a couple of days in the summer at what they called the “Korrö bordunstämma” to build instruments and play folk music. Later on the event started to attract other people through public live concerts. These concerts became more and more popular and they soon took over the original purpose of the event. This became a turning point for “Korrö bordunstämma” who now decided to change name to the Korrö Folk Music Festival. I have been studying the history of this event to see if I could find any particular circumstances that may have contributed to the popularity this event have reached over the years. I will illustrate how certain factors such as organisation, economy and alteration of visitors have affected the festival. This text will give the reader a presentation of a festival in constant change. I believe that The Korrö Folk Music Festival has been an important part of the development of modern Swedish folk music and still is.

Musikfestivaler som turistiskt dragplåster : en fallstudie på Sweden Rock Festival / Music Festivals as a Touristic Draw : a case study on Sweden Rock Festival

Koski, Carina January 2009 (has links)
Lately, more and more music festivals have emerged in Sweden. People’s desire and need to visit these events only seems to increase. Cultural tourism and music tourism has developed into a significant and important part of the experience industry and it employs more and more people within the tourism industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate which effects this can have on the local community. Focus is held on the touristic and economic impact on the nearby municipality and region. The paper is based on a case study on Sweden Rock Festival, which is one of Swedens largest music festivals with a heavy-metal direction. Sweden Rock Festival is located in the south of Sweden in a small municipality called Sölvesborg. Sölvesborg has about 17 000 inhabitants and each year some 33 200 festival visitors decend on the area to attend the festival. To investigate the touristic and economic impact that Sweden Rock Festival has on Sölvesborg, interviews have been conducted. These interviews have been done by either telephone or by e-mail with people from the municipality, the Sweden Rock Festival organization and people with connections to the local business life. Also, two experienced festival attenders have been interviewed to investigate the visitors use of the area’s supply of tourism attractions besides Sweden Rock Festival. The study has shown that Sweden Rock Festival has contributed to putting Sölvesborg on the touristic map and increased the awareness and knowledge about the area. New camping sites and restaurants have opened and many companies benefits on the vistitors that Sweden Rock Festival attracts. The tourism- and travel industry on the destination has increased its sales and more job opportunities have been created. As a conclusion, the study shows that it can be viewed as a good idea to use music festivals as a means to increase a destinations touristic and economic value.

Scheinostová, Zuzana January 2012 (has links)
The theoretical part of this MA thesis outlines the history of the Prague Philharmonic Children's Choir, its cooperation with Prague's leading stages, with outstanding Czech and international musical ensembles and conductors, as well as important concerts and appearances at prestigious festivals. It introduces the personalities who have held the position of choirmaster, and it surveys the choir's repertoire and discography. A short chapter is dedicated to the present situation of the choir and its present artistic guidance. The practical part comprises interviews with personalities who are, in various ways, linked with the Prague Philharmonic Children's Choir. A separate chapter is dedicated to a questionnaire which was given to members of the concert section of the choir and which covers the reasons and motivation for entering the choir and remaining there, the musical background in families etc.

“WELL, DON’T WALK AROUND NAKED... UNLESS YOU’RE A GIRL”: GENDER, SEXUALITY, AND RISK IN JAMTRONICA FESTIVAL SUBCULTURAL SCENES

Motl, Kaitlyne A. 01 January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore emerging issues surrounding gendered fear, threat, and violence perpetration at music festivals – particularly events that feature a synthesis of jam band and electronic dance music acts – a genre termed jamtronica by its fans. Though gendered violence perpetration and prevention have been widely studied within other party-oriented settings (i.e., sexual violence perpetration on college campuses), very little research exists to address how wider disparities of gender and sexuality permeate a community whose members frequently claim the scene’s immunity from external inequalities. In this three-year multi-sited ethnography, I incorporate participant observations, group and individual interviews, and textual analyses to progressively layer investigations into: 1) festival-goers’ gender-bifurcated perceptions of the problems they face within the event arena; 2) how institutional and interactional inequalities fuel gender-sexual expectations that exacerbate the risks with which festival-going women’s contend; and, 3) how jamtronica’s “libertarian and libertine” codes complicate women’s negotiations of (sub)cultural agency, expression, and safety. Findings derived across fourteen sites, interviews with 179 festival participants, and countless material texts suggest that men and women do perceive festival “problems” in very different ways – subsequently leading women to calculatedly navigate festival terrains, interactions, and self-presentations in ways that festival-going men seldom must. Protected by scene norms that paradoxically elevate personal autonomy and group integration, festival-going men’s homosocial displays of masculinity (through pranks, drinking and drug use, and even sexual predation) often goes unchallenged – or, is seemingly even encouraged. In an environment that both scholars and study participants claim to eclipse mainstream inequalities of gender and sexuality, a closer look reveals the multiplex ways that festival-going women risk their physical, social, and sexual well-beings in order to pursue the emancipatory promises that jamtronica music festival community discourses purport. For this understudied, yet rapidly growing, subcultural scene, this study offers conceptual and analytical foundations to event-specific violence prevention programming, as well as gender and sexuality-centric initiatives paramount to ever-diversifying jamtronica music festival communities.

Analýza struktury návštěvníků hudebních festivalů a návrh nového projektu / The analysis of the structure of music festivals´ visitors and new festival project

ŠERPÁN, Adam January 2010 (has links)
The master thesis analyzes the structure of multi-genre music festivals´ visitors and on the base of this analysis, a part of marketing mix of concrete festival is proposed to be modified. This modification is primarily focused on communication mix. Music festivals are the product of tourism. This is one of the essential ideas of this master thesis. Festival is a service - nonmaterial product, so there must be reached the maximal efectivaty of the communication with the music festival customer - visitor. The secondary goal of the master thesis is proposal of the realizatoion of multi-genre music festival in České Budějovice. This goal is almost achieved, when local authority has expressed the agreement with this project.

Event tourism is therefore one of the pillars in
„Tourism Development Strategy of Serbia" as a very important segment, as a comparative
advantage of domestic tourism. According to Tourist Organization of Vojvodina, 1382
events are annually held in Vojvodina. One of the most important manifestations is the
EXIT festival, held in Novi Sad for 15 years. This festival has been listed as one of the top
10 European festivals. In development of tourism Marketing Strategy of Vojvodina suggests
following the example of Hungary. In period of one year more than 3000 festivals are held
in Hungary which are attracting 18-20 million of visitors from Hungary and abroad, that fact
indicates importance of events in Hungarian tourism. Budapest is the capital of Republic of
Hungary. It is 300 km away from Novi Sad and it is highly visited tourist destination. One
of the most important tourism events in Budapest is Sziget music festival, which gathers a
large number of performers and visitors from more than 70 different countries. Therefore
Sziget festival is contributing to the positive image of Budapest on European tourist map.
Local population is an important stakeholder in development of tourist destinations. In
relation to specific area and environment local population can have better sense of what are
real needs, what is more sustainable and can gain more benefit in future development, than
the central government. As result it is necessary to include vision, desires and needs,
potentials and enthusiasm of local community in plans for future development.
As there are no studies on effects of music festivals on local community in our area, this
scientific research investigated local population perception on effects of music festivals. The
survey about effects of Exit and Sziget festival sampled residents from Novi Sad and
Budapest. Appropriate sampling collected total of 505 valid surveys that are used in
statistical analysis. Modified FSIAS scale showed positive and negative effects of festival
and what significance these effects have on local community.
The results of the study show that local population from Novi Sad and Budapest perceives
more positive effects from festivals than negative effects. Respondents from Novi Sad gave
higher average grades for both groups of effects. Also, the results confirmed that festivals
contibute to tourism development, promotion and image of destination.
Strong points or strengths of both festivals were determined as well as areas that should be
more influenced by management so positive effects could be multiplied. Also low priority
or possible overkill points are defined and can be ignored, as they are not influencing
quality of festival.
Social impacts on local community are not universal, those that have important impact on
one community may have a negligible effect on the other.
