Ferrís Lloret, María Amparo 14 September 2023 (has links)
[EN] After more than ten years since the adaptation of higher artistic education in music in Spain to the European Higher Education Area, this research designs a revised and updated curriculum in the piano itinerary belonging to the speciality of performance from a normative perspective adjusted to current training and employment needs. To achieve this objective, an analysis is carried out of the state regulations that have allowed the adaptation of these studies to the new European educational framework and an investigation is carried out into the scope of its application through a detailed study of the thirty-nine public and private centres that currently offer Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Higher Artistic Music Education. At the same time, it studies the regulatory development carried out by the fifteen autonomous communities that provide these courses and the process of implementation of the syllabuses that each of these administrations have carried out. After a qualitative and quantitative analysis of all the results obtained, a proposal is made for a syllabus that combines aspects defined by state regulations with the contributions made by the majority of the autonomous administrations responsible for education and, in turn, reflects the current training and employment needs observed in teaching practice. The result of this research reflects an innovative syllabus that is developed through twenty-three subjects, in addition to five optional subjects and the final year dissertation for degree, which offers students a quality educational option adapted to current employment needs. / Ferrís Lloret, MA. A critical analysis and study of the problems of intonation in the band ensemble

Bartlett, Harold H. 01 January 1958 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this treatise is not so much to discover heretofore unknown facts through original research; however, certain research is planned to assist in deleting the obvious handicaps one might encounter from using faulty instruments or mouthpieces, but rather to assemble under one cover practical data that may be of value in improving intonation in the band ensemble. Various definitions of terms will be established, purposes determined, opinion and methods of teachers evaluated, conclusions reached, and highlights of other persons’ experiments that may bear upon the subject will be presented.

A study of youth choirs in the Presbyterian Churches, U.S.A. of the San Joaquin Presbytery, California Synod

Barkman, Samuel J. 01 January 1958 (has links) (PDF)
Information received during interviews with fifteen prominent choral directors, ministers and laymen of different communities end questionnaire responses from thirty of fifty churches of the San Joaquin Presbytery of tho Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., indicates almost unanimously that there is a growing need. and also a growing awakening among the youth of the church for participation in church musical activities. For many years churches, large and small, have been struggling with the difficult problems of providing satisfactory musical experiences for both the adults and the youth in the churches of various denominations. For the large churches, with large budgets at their command, the matter is simplified by the hiring of paid singers and competent directors at good salaries. In the case of the smaller churches, the duties of furnishing music for various services and special programs usually fall to a local music instructor, and interested layman, the wife of the minister, or perhaps the minister himself. In some cases there is a small monthly remuneration, but in many cases the work done is a matter of donated time and labor on the part of the director. Much has been discussed as to the reasons for the lack of interest shown by the young people of various denominations in the musical life of the churches, but little practical information can be found to remedy the situation. In a conference with Dr. Clair Morrow, moderators of the Synod of California and Minister of the First Church of Fresno, and Leonard Ballmer, Moderators of the San Joaquin Presbytery, it was felt that such a study should take place in order to evaluate and compare the Youth Music Program at the First Church in Fresno with the other churches in the Presbytery.

Crossing the Pond: The Influence of Southern Appalachian Old-Time on Contemporary Irish Music

Morgan, Amanda 01 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
Numerous studies examine Irish traditional music influencing old-time music, but few examine the influence of old-time on contemporary Irish. As our societies become more global, folk music travels faster and becomes more open to influence. Thes influences can be heard in the music of “Alfi” and “Lankum,” two ensembles steeped in Irish traditional music. This study defines common musical elements of old-time and examines the use of those elements in two recordings: Alfi’s, “Jubilee” and Lankum’s, “The Old Man from Over the Sea.” Much of my data comes from interviews with Irish and American musicians and my own professional knowledge, gaining a deeper understanding of the musical decisions made by members of Alfi and Lankum. This study adds to the formal literature relating to old-time and Irish traditional music. More importantly, it helps fill a gap in the literature by adding to the discussion of the dissemination of traditional music.

A musical escape into a virtual world - A qualitative experimental study of how music fans perceive music concerts and other musical performances in virtual reality

Khaleram Paulsson, Nelly January 2017 (has links)
We live in a time when technology is digitalizing the world. Technology is a medium that brings people closer to each other and enables more experiences to take place; at home. The increase of music concert attendance boomed the music industry in 2016 and set record sales already halfway into the year. However, there are still people that cannot attend music concerts or performances due to other factors. It was not only the music industry that boomed in 2016; artists started producing music concerts in Virtual Reality (VR) enabling them to reach out to a wider audience. This study shows how music fans in the age between 20-30 perceive music concerts and performances in virtual worlds. The study conducted qualitative experiments and focus group discussions with a total of nine participants. The conclusion is that music fans perceive virtual reality as a media technology that needs more product development and focus on the possibilities of becoming a more social experience. Virtual reality is a technology that isolates the user; the music fans demanded an experience that enables co-presence. That is, achieving immersion and experiencing being present in a virtual world with another person.

The Cunning Little Vixen: A Folktale Illustrated On Stage

Reid, Mikayla 01 July 2021 (has links)
This thesis paper reflects upon the costume design process taken by Mikayla Reid to explore how color choice and application within designs can help create storybook characters off the page and onto the stage. This concept is explored through the costume designs for the opera The Cunning Little Vixen, a production theoretically staged at the Alice Busch Opera Theater for the Glimmerglass Festival in New York. The paper discusses Reid’s attempt to create designs that still feel like watercolor illustrations, even when realized in physical garments. It follows her process as she tests different dye techniques in search for what produces the most effective color application. This paper also breaks down each step taken while constructing the main character, the Vixen, through the build, fittings, and color application.

The Relationship Between District Concert Band Music Performance Assessment Participation and Student Achievement in Miami-Dade County Public Middle Schools

Scavella, Arthur J. N. 20 February 2018 (has links)
Since the implementation and achievement score pressures of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, elective course offerings such as music have been drastically reduced, especially in the middle school setting. A great deal of correlational research has shown a positive correlation between music education in school and students’ overall academic achievement. This study examined the correlation between those middle school students that participated in the District Concert Band Music Performance Assessment (MPA) versus those middle school students that did not regarding their achievement scores on the 2016 English language arts (ELA) and mathematics subtests of the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA). The theoretical framework of this study was undergirded by Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. The researcher used a non-experimental ex post facto research design for the collection of the study’s data. The results indicated that there was a positive, statistically significant difference between both the ELA and mathematics achievement scores of those students that participated in the MPA and those that did not. There was also a positive, statistically significant difference between both the ELA and mathematics achievement scores of those students that participated in the MPA and the level of music their band performed. However, there was not a statistically significant difference between both the ELA and mathematics achievement scores of those students that performed at the MPA and the final overall rating that their band received. School administrators are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that effective programs are instituted in their schools so their students can be successful. The results of this quantitative non-experimental ex post facto study could provide administrators additional research-based evidence suggesting that band on the middle-school level, which is a branch of music education, could be a program to include in the school’s curriculum because it might positively contribute to the school’s ELA and mathematics achievement and academic culture. Additional research can also be conducted to observe the effects of music study on student achievement for students of all grade levels and socioeconomics. This would lead school administrators to continue practicing the notion of educating the whole child while making administrative decisions, which should be the sine qua non of education.

Evaluating NMP Quality of Service : Experiment with JackTrip regarding Latency versus Packet Jitter/Dropouts with High Quality Audio via LAN and WAN / Utvärdering av  quality of service vid NMP : Experiment med JackTrip angående Latens kontra Jitter/Tapp av Paket med Högkvalitetsljud via LAN och WAN

Müntzing, Daniel January 2018 (has links)
This study has developed a method to create an, to a big extent, automated testing system for NMP (Networked Music Performance) communication over LAN and WAN to be able to benchmark the UDP streaming engine JackTrip using a client-server model. The method is not locked into using JackTrip only, it could be used to do experiments with other engines too. The study tried to answer the question if latency correlates to amount of correctly aligned audio, and to what extent the audio is correctly aligned in respect to tolerated latency (based on earlier research) when at least two musicians remote-conducting musical pieces together. There were 13 different buffer settings tested, which used no redundancy and redundancy of 2, and which were sent through 4 different LAN/WAN-scenarios. A big dataset was produced, with about 82 minutes’ worth of audio per test. To post-process the data a phase cancelling method was used to measure correctly aligned audio, while the latency was measured by counting the number of samples from the start of each audio file to the first sample that were not null or not under a certain threshold. The results showed clear correlations of buffer sizes impact of latency and amount of correctly audio sent over the network. If the buffer sizes are greater, it will produce higher latency and increase the amount of correctly aligned audio, and on the opposite side, if using less buffer, it will produce lower latencies and less correctly aligned amount of audio. The study also showed that there was very little impact of using higher redundancies, both regarding latency and amount of correctly audio. When analysing the amount of correct data when respecting the tolerated level of latency, the study showed a support for correctly aligned amount of streamed audio up to 65% when using JackTrip.
