Kommentera här! : En kvalitativ studie om nyhetssajters kommentarsfunktioner

Thorsell, Johan January 2011 (has links)
This study builds on the discussion of the comment field that is related to news sites articles. The debate culminated in the summer of 2011 when several news sites changed their conduct and in some cases also the technologies used. This study intended to investigate whether the choice of technology for annotation affects users' willingness to communication on newssites, but also to elucidate possible underlying factors for this. This has been carried out by obseravtions and interview studys. The results of this study indicate that communication is affected by the choice of technical solution. And that lack of control is one of the determining factors of whether the user is willing to comment on an article.

Online Content Popularity in the Twitterverse: A Case Study of Online News

2014 January 1900 (has links)
With the advancement of internet technology, online news content has become very popular. People can now get live updates of the world's news through online news sites. Social networking sites are also very popular among Internet users, for sharing pictures, videos, news links and other online content. Twitter is one of the most popular social networking and microblogging sites. With Twitter's URL shortening service, a news link can be included in a tweet with only a small number of characters, allowing the rest of the tweet to be used for expressing views on the news story. Social links can be unidirectional in Twitter, allowing people to follow any person or organization and get their tweet updates, and share those updates with their own followers if desired. Through Twitter thousands of news links are tweeted every day. Whenever there is a popular new story, different news sites will publish identical or nearly identical versions (``clones'') of that story. Though these clones have the same or very similar content, the level of popularity they achieve may be quite different due to content agnostic factors such as influential tweeters, time of publication and the popularities of the news sites. It is very important for the content provider site to know about which factor plays a important role to make their news link popular. In this thesis research, a data set is collected containing the tweets made for the 218 members of 25 distinct sets of news story clones. The collected data is analyzed with respect to basic popularity characteristics concerning number of tweets of various types, relative publication times of clone set members, tweet timing and number of tweeter followers. Then, several other factors are investigated to see their impact in making some news story clones more popular than others. It is found that multiple content-agnostic factors i.e. maximum number of followers, self promotional tweets plays an impact on news site's stories overall popularity, and a first step is taken at quantifying their relative importance.

Re-thinking journalism : how young adults want their news

Zerba, Amy Elizabeth 01 June 2010 (has links)
The term "young adults" is often used loosely without a clear definition of who this demographic is. This study defines young adults by examining generational differences, their beliefs, uses and nonuses of media, news interests, wants, values for following the news, and expectations and reading experiences of news stories. The uses and gratifications approach and expectancy-value theory provided a framework for this study. Three methodological approaches were used: a secondary data analysis of three national surveys, focus groups and an experiment. The secondary data analysis findings showed the youngest age group (18-24) is leading the new news routine online with news aggregator sites, major and local news sites. The two youngest age groups (18-24 and 25-29) differ from each other and older age groups in their worries, goals, perspectives, beliefs, news interests, media uses, nonuses and political knowledge, and should be studied separately. Stances on social issues and technology are not as clearly defined by age. The findings suggest one's life stage is behind some of the differences. Since no published study to date has conducted focus groups exclusively with nonreaders of print newspapers ages 18-29 to examine their news consumption and nonuses of print newspapers, the present study broke new ground. The findings showed these young adults want searchable, effortless, shorter, more local, accessible anytime news. Both groups (18-24 and 25-29) wanted less negative news, but the younger group justified crime coverage. A few younger group participants expressed a difficult time reading the news and a bias in coverage, especially politics. The experiment used storytelling devices in an attempt to make news writing more digestible, interesting, relevant to young adults' lives, and informative. The findings showed "chunking" text improved perceived comprehension. The device of adding background information, context and a definition improved text recall. The experiment also examined expectations that young adults have prior to reading hard news. For a politics story, experimental group participants expected to understand the story less and have less of an interest than they did. Using these findings, this study suggests ways to get more of this audience (18-29) to tune into the news. / text

Ao mesmo tempo, discutimos a produção jornalística para crianças na Internet, com a intenção de demonstrar sua viabilidade e contribuição social / Taking for granted technologies of information have been present in our day-by-day lives more and more frequently, mainly in our children's activities, this work traces an investigative study on media products developed toward a particular teenage gap (10-12 years old) using internet tools, in order to elaborate a childlike web-news site. The newspapers adjustment to Internet : A comparison between traditional newspapers and Web news sites

Gustavsson, Cathrine January 2006 (has links)
Newspapers have undergone big changes with the progress of Internet and the newspapers establishment on the Internet. This adjustment to the Internet has resulted in differences between the content in newspapers and Web news sites. A quantitative content analysis and questions to Web authorities have been used in this study to describe what these differences are. During three days, three different newspapers were analysed and the conclusion was that many of the articles that were published in the newspapers also could be found in the newspapers Web versions. At the same time a lot of the articles on the Web news sites were not published in the newspapers. A common factor for all the newspapers who were analysed was that there was a larger share of news articles on the Web news sites first pages. The newspapers on the other hand had a larger share of culture- and sport articles. Of the articles that were represented in both the printed newspapers and the Web version there were not so many differences as were expected from the beginning of the analysis. The articles on the Web news sites were in some cases longer since you don’t have the same lack of space in this media and the articles often contained updated information that weren’t available when the newspaper was printed. The articles in the newspapers usually had more pictures and facts connected to the text while the Web news sites articles contained links to earlier and similar articles that helps the reader to put the news in to a bigger context. In the newspapers there were often references to the Web version for more information and in that way the Web news site was used as a complement to the newspaper. The number of interaction possibilities was varying among the different kinds of newspapers. There were both possibilities to comment on articles and also possibilities to watch web-TV, listen to sound files and watch picture shows. The conclusion that could be drawn from this was that it was important to maintain a good quality on the comments of articles so that they can create a value for the reader. It is also good if the newspaper and the Web version can offer different possibilities.

Význam videoobsahu na českých zpravodajských serverech / Importance of video content on Czech news sites

Drechslerová, Terezie January 2019 (has links)
The importance of video content in Czech internet news has been steadily rising for almost two decades, media houses are creating and expanding separate video-making departments and investing in equipment needed for their creations. News websites place considerable emphasis on the production of their own audiovisual content, which has become so common that the reader has come to expect it. The work brings a comprehensive description and evaluation of the video content of three major Czech news sites: iDnes.cz, Novinky.cz and Aktuálně.cz. It describes the processes, techniques and tools used in video journalism and gives an overview of the video production of these three news sites and insight into the relevance of video for Czech online news. The practical part draws on a case study of the selected websites, which focuses on the individual editorial environment and their common practice. It includes a quantitative content analysis that answers the research question: "What is the current form of video content on news sites iDnes.cz, Novinky.cz and Aktuálně.cz?" The analysis is accompanied by interviews with experts from the field and my own experience. In my interviews, I asked questions, related to the theoretical part of this work, about the inner workings of editorial teams, their team strategy and source...

Stigmatizace schizofrenie na vybraných českých zpravodajských serverech / Stigmatization of Schizophrenia on Selected Czech News Sites

Sobková, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
This diploma thesis examines the stigmatization of schizophrenia on selected Czech news sites. Schizophrenia is one of the most stigmatized mental illnesses. This stigma is also aided by the media, which tends to portray schizophrenia in an overly negative way. The aim of this work is to determine how schizophrenia is stigmatized on selected news sites. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly summarizes the issue of media content and clarifies the basic concepts important for the study of this content. The theoretical basis for the study of stigmatization of schizophrenia were also laid in this part. In the practical part, a content analysis of articles mentioning schizophrenia was performer. Those articles were published during 2019 on the news sites novinky.cz, idnes.cz, aktualne.cz, denik.cz and blesk.cz. Also, a qualitative analysis of the comments of the recipients, who spoke about people with schizophrenia in discussion forums for the examined articles, was performed. The work is intended for participants engaged in destigmatization projects and for creators of media content. The findings from this work can help the ongoing destigmatization process in the Czech Republic.
