Aplikace zobecněné lineárně elastické lomové mechaniky na odhad počátku šíření trhliny z ostrého V-vrubu / Application of generalized linear elastic fracture mechanics on estimation of crack propagation origin from sharp V-notch

Štegnerová, Kateřina January 2013 (has links)
The master thesis is focused on estimation of crack propagation origin from sharp V-notch. Stress distribution around the tip of the V-notch is described on the base of generalized linear elastic fracture mechanics. The change of the stress singularity exponent caused by geometry of the V-notch and the vertex singularity is taken into account. The first part of the work is devoted to the estimation of the stress singularity exponent of the V-notch either from stress distribution around the tip of the V-notch or by using analytical solution. Formerly derived stability criteria are applied in the second part of the work. The origin of the crack propagation is estimated for several experimental specimens. The aim of this thesis is to compare the available experimentally observed data with results obtained using those criteria based on the application of generalized linear elastic fracture mechanics developer at the Institute of Physics of Materials Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. The finite element code Ansys and mathematical software Matlab were used for the necessary calculations.

Posouzení životnosti svařované žebrované hřídele generátoru / Lifetime Prediction of the Welded Ribbed Generator Shaft

Ryšánek, Michal January 2015 (has links)
This master thesis deals primarily with the prediction of fatigue life of welded ribbed shaft. Recommendations taken from the International Institute of Welding (IIW) are used to express the stress values and the fatigue life. The stress values of examined place are expressed by approach of nominal stress, structural hot spot stress and effective notch stress. Results from stress-strain analysis are combined together with fatigue strength curves for prediction of the fatigue life. At the end of the analysis, the predicted fatigue life is compared with design life of welded ribbed shaft.

Weiterentwicklung eines bruchmechanischen Konzepts zur formzahlfreien Abschätzung der Dauerfestigkeit gekerbter Strukturen am Beispiel verschiedener Sinterstähle

Götz, Sebastian 20 July 2012 (has links)

Static and fatigue design of load carrying welded joints in high strength steels : -In collaboration with Cargotec Sweden AB

Mumtaz, Noman Ali, Khurshid, Mansoor January 2011 (has links)
This thesis work is carried out in Cargotec Sweden AB, Bromma Conquip to study the behavior of load carrying welded joints in different weld metal strength mismatch conditions and various penetration ratios. Static and fatigue strength calculations have been made using FEA and experimentation. The joint in the Telescopic beam of the spreader STS45 has been analyzed. Telescopic beam is one of the critical and main parts in the spreader, which is directly subjected to the load of containers at various ports. Previous studies show that this joint limits the strength of the spreader, it has thus been analyzed. To check the effect of different strength mismatch conditions in the weld metal, static strength calculations have been carried out. The effect of different penetration ratios on static and fatigue strength has also been studied. A cruciform test specimen is designed according to the joint configuration and the capacity of testing machine. Criteria for the selection of consumables has also been developed and following standards: Eurocode 3, AWS D1.1 and BSK07, have been compared for static joint design. Sub modelling, effective notch stress and beam theory techniques have been used to study the effect of weld metal penetration and size of weld throat on the fatigue strength of the welded joint in the Telescopic beam. The study show that matching or slight under matching in the filler material along with full penetration increases the ultimate strength capacity as well as the ductility in the joint. Results of Eurocode 3, AWS D1.1 and BSK 07 are close to each other. Apart from strength mismatch and penetration ratios, it is observed that the weld geometry and joint preparation has also effect on the strength of the joint. Fatigue analysis of the weld in the Telescopic beam using 3D Finite element analysis show that effective notch concept is not applicable to this part of the spreader.

[pt] EFEITOS PLÁSTICOS DE CONCENTRAÇÃO DE TENSÃO NA RESISTÊNCIA À FADIGA / [en] PLASTIC STRESS CONCENTRATION EFFECTS IN FATIGUE STRENGTH

MENGEN LIU 16 May 2023 (has links)
[en] Elasto-plastic stress gradient factors ahead of notch tips are used to evaluate actual notch effects in fatigue strength, quantified by fatigue stress concentration factor (Fatigue stress concentration factor). Usually, it is smaller than the linear elastic stress concentration factor of the notch, (Stress concentration factor) , due to material tolerance to non-propagating short cracks. Considering that local plasticity around notch tips plays a significant role in the growth behavior of short cracks within the notch plastic zone, a sound mechanical methodology is proposed to account for the effects of elasto-plastic stress and strain fields in the actual (Fatigue stress concentration factor) value. Two-dimensional finite element analyses are conducted to compute stress intensity factors of smooth and notched specimens. Ramberg-Osgood model and Neuber s rule are used to achieve approximations for strain-based intensity factors. For methodology validation, numerical predictions are compared to experimental stress-life data of center, U, and V-notched plate specimens made of different materials and tested under uniaxial load ratios of −1, 0, and 0.1 collected from the literature. The comparisons show good agreement proving that the elasto-plastic solution provides more accuracy than the linear elastic one. The most discrepant results are obtained at load ratios of 0 and 0.1, and they can be significantly improved if non-zero mean stress effects are considered.

Comprehensive Active Control of Booming Noise Inside a Vehicle Caused by the Engine and the Driveline

Kim, Seonghyeon, Altinsoy, M. Ercan 06 June 2024 (has links)
This study presents comprehensive active cancellation of booming noise caused by the engine and the driveline inside a passenger car. In modern noise control systems for vehicles, booming noise caused by engine harmonics could be effectively suppressed by employing active noise control. However, practical attempts or studies for the active suppression of driveline booming noise are scarce. One of the reasons may be that since the booming noise caused by the driveline is not harmonic with the engine speed, reference signals cannot be generated conventionally. Thus, passive approaches are generally employed to improve the driveline noise. To address this limitation, we propose a method for generating reference signals from engine revolution speed to suppress the driveline noise, such as propeller shaft and tire noise. Reference signals for driveline noise suppression were generated using the information from the torque converter, gear ratio, and final drive ratio. A practical active noise control system was implemented in a six-cylindered large sedan to validate the proposed method. The experimental results showed that the engine firing order was suppressed by 8.0 dB. Moreover, the first order of the propeller shaft and the second and third orders of the tires were suppressed by 5.5 dB, 3.9 dB, and 2.3 dB for entire seat positions. Furthermore, the results presented in this study were considered effective for improving annoyance perception through subjective evaluation.

DIGITAL RECEIVER PERFORMANCE

Troublefield, Robert C. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / Bit errors often occur in a wireless communications link when impairments alter the transmitted signal. It is advantageous to be able to predict how well a system will tolerate transmission problems. This paper details laboratory performance measurements and comparisons in terms of evaluating configurations of a digital receiver for Feher patented Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (FQPSK-B) demodulation. The transmitted signal is subjected to calibrated levels of impairments while the receiver performance is monitored in real-time.
