Nakagami Kenji : un projet littéraire et social autour du statut des intouchables japonais

L’étude porte sur la question des burakumin, les intouchables japonais, dans deux oeuvres de l’écrivain japonais Nakagami Kenji (1946-1992), lui-même issu de cette communauté. Mille ans de plaisir, recueil de six contes basés sur des récits de vie, et le roman Miracle forment une suite organisée autour des mêmes lieux, des mêmes personnages et des mêmes thèmes. Ils décrivent la condition sociale d’une collectivité mise au ban de la société japonaise malgré sa modernisation. Ils se distinguent par leur caractère d’ethnofiction. Nakagami cherche à réhabiliter les burakumin en valorisant le patrimoine religieux et folklorique dont ils sont dépositaires. Il puise dans les genres traditionnels comme le monogatari ou les contes et légendes du Japon. Il s’inspire également d’auteurs modernes japonais (Mishima, Tanizaki) et d’auteurs étrangers (Faulkner, García-Márquez). À partir de cet intertexte et pour faire barrage à l’occidentalisation, il élabore un style « hybride » digne de la littérature nationale (kokubungaku). Les oeuvres traditionnelles sont réinterprétées dans une esthétique postmoderne ayant une fonction ironique et critique contre l’idéologie impériale répressive qui continue d’alimenter la discrimination envers les burakumin. L’analyse porte sur les procédés qui sous-tendent le projet social et le projet littéraire de l’auteur. Elle se divise en trois parties. La première donne un aperçu biographique de l’auteur et décrit les composantes de son projet social qui consiste à vouloir changer l’image et le statut des burakumin. La deuxième partie décrit les éléments religieux et folkloriques des deux oeuvres et analyse en contexte leur signification ainsi que leur fonction, qui est de mettre en valeur les traditions préservées par les burakumin. La troisième partie montre en quoi le répertoire traditionnel (monogatari) et les intertextes sont mis au service du projet littéraire proprement dit. / This study addresses the issue of burakumin, Japanese untouchable or social outcast, in the works of the Japanese novelist Nakagami Kenji (1946-1992), who had himself come from this community. Together, A Thousand Years of Pleasure, a collection of six tales based on life stories, and the novel Miracle, form a continuum articulated around the same places, characters and themes. They describe the social condition of a community exiled by the Japanese society in spite of its modernization and stand out as works of the ethnofiction genre. Nakagami tries to rehabilitate the burakumin by the valorization of the religious and folk heritage of which they are the custodians. He draws from the traditional works such as monogatari, the folk tales and legends of Japan. He also draws from contemporary Japanese authors (Mishima, Tanizaki) as well as from foreign ones (Faulkner, García-Márquez). With this intertext as a starting point and to stand against westernization, he elaborates a “hybrid” style worthy of the national literature (kokubungaku). The traditional works are reinterpreted with postmodern aesthetics that introduce an ironic and critical tone against the repressive imperial ideology still feeding discrimination towards burakumin. The analysis bears on the processes underlying the social and literary projects of the author. The thesis is divided in three parts. The first one provides a biographic overview of the author`s life and describes the components of his social project which consisted in changing the image and status of burakumin. The second describes the religious and folk elements of both works and analyzes in context their meaning and their function, which is to emphasize the traditions upheld by the burakumin. The third and last part shows how the traditional repertoire (monogatari) and intertexts are used to support the literary project itself.

Energy Efficient and Performance Analysis of Multihop Wireless Communication Over Nakagami-m Fading Channel

The concept of multihop communications (where the source communicates with the destination via many intermediate nodes) has been revisited and adapted to mitigate wireless channel impairments and ensure broader coverage. It has been shown in the literature that, in addition to extending coverage, overcoming shadowing and reducing the transmit power, multihop communications can increase the capacity of the network at a low additional cost. On the other hand, the problem of energy efficiency is one of the current biggest challenges towards green radio communications. Morevover, electromagnetic radiation is at its limit in many contexts, while for battery-powered devices, transmit and circuit energy consumption has to be minimized for better battery lifetime and performance. In this work, the performance of multihop communication over Nakagami-m fading is investigated for both cases without and with diversity combining. Closed form expressions of the average ergodic capacity are derived for each of these cases. Then, an expression of the outage probability is obtained using the inverse of Laplace transform and the average bit error rate is bounded using the Moment-Generating-Function approach. The energy efficiency is analyzed using the "consumption factor" as a metric, and it is derived in closed-form. And based on the obtained expressions, we propose a power allocation strategy maximizing this consumption factor.

Caractérisation de texture d'échographie RF par champ markovien.

L'échographie est un outil d'imagerie médicale qui s'impose pour le diagnostic de nombreuses pathologies. En conséquence, une large littérature du domaine de l'image s'intéresse à ces images pour fournir des outils d'analyse et de caractérisation tissulaire. L'objectif de cette thèse est de modéliser la texture échographique par des champs markoviens pour en extraire des paramètres susceptibles de caractériser l'organisation des tissus. Dans une première partie, nous évaluons l'habilité des lois de distribution proposées dans la littérature (Gamma, K et Nakagami) à modéliser les niveaux de l'enveloppe du signal RF. Nous illustrons par des simulations de texture échographique les liens entre les paramètres de ces lois et les paramètres intrinsèques des diffuseurs, à savoir la densité, l'amplitude et l'espacement entre diffuseurs. Dans une deuxième partie, nous élaborons des modèles spatiaux par l'approche markovienne de façon à obtenir en chaque pixel de l'image une distribution de type K ou Nakagami dont les paramètres dépendent de la configuration du voisinage. A l'aide de simulation de ces champs de micro-texture, on illustre le comportement de leurs paramètres. La troisième partie est dédiée à l'application de ces modèles spatiaux sur des images enveloppes simulées. On montre ici l'habilité de ces modèles à décrire la disposition spatiale des diffuseurs qui constituent le tissu, et le lien entre les paramètres du modèle et les propriétés intrinsèques de diffuseurs. Finalement, les développements futurs de cette approche sont discutés.

Rate adaptive transmission in cooperative networks

Cooperative wireless communication uses relays to enhance the capacity and reliability of data transmission. Adaptive transmission is typically used in conventional non-cooperative communications to exploit the time-varying nature of the wireless channel. In this thesis, we combine these two techniques. We consider decode-and-forward (DF) and amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. The wireless environment is modeled by using the Nakagami-m distribution. The achievable channel capacity with rate adaptive transmission is analytically derived for DF and AF cooperative networks. The performance of a DF cooperative network is analyzed with a constant power rate adaptive scheme consisting of a discrete set of transmission modes. The effect of decoding errors on DF cooperative networks is also analyzed. To this end, a new heuristic approximation of the total received signal-to-noise ratio at the destination is developed. This approximation enables simple yet accurate performance analysis. / Communications

Enhancing capacity and coverage for heterogeneous cellular systems

The thesis is concerned with capacity and coverage enhancement of OFDMA heterogeneous cellular systems with a specific focus on fractional frequency reuse (FFR), femtocells and amplify-and-forward (AF) relay systems. The main aim of the thesis is to develop new mathematical analysis for the spectral efficiency and outage probability of multi-cells multi-tier systems in diverse traffic, interference and fading scenarios. In the first part of the thesis, a new unified mathematical framework for performance analysis of FFR and soft frequency reuse (SFR) schemes is developed. This leads to new exact expressions of FFR and SFR area spectral efficiency in downlink and uplink scenarios which account for a mixture of frequency reuse factors in a homogeneous cellular system. The mathematical framework is extended to include modelling and performance analysis of FFR systems with elastic data traffic. Further analysis is carried out in relation to the performance of FFR and/or SFR schemes, in terms of energy efficiency and base station cooperation. The new proposed analytical framework can lead to a better understanding and computationally efficient performance analysis of next generation heterogeneous cellular systems. Next generation cellular systems are characterized by an increase in the spatial node density to improve the spectral efficiency and coverage, especially for users at home and at the cell edges. In this regard, relays and femtocells play a major role. Therefore, relays and femocells are the focus of the second part of the thesis. Firstly, we present a new and unified spectral efficiency analysis in dual-hop fixed-gain AF relay systems over generalised interferences models. The generalised interference models are either based on the Nakagami-m fading with arbitrary distance or on spatial Poisson Point Process in case of randomly deployed heterogeneous interferers. The models have been considered separately in the open literature due to the complexity of the mathematical analysis. Secondly, the outage probability is utilised to deduce the femtocell exclusion region for FFR system and a new static resource allocation scheme is proposed for femtocells which improve the capacity. The work presented in the thesis has resulted in the publication of seven scientific papers in prestigious IEEE journals and conferences.

Adaptive Modulation Coding Scheme in Amplify and Forward Relay Networks

Wireless communications have become an essential part of our daily life. Despite the fact that wireless networks are simple to set up and deploy, the channel conditionsin wireless networks are susceptible to fading and attenuation, thereby reducing the transmission efficiency and reliability. The influence of unstable wireless channels, fading and attenuation is a significant limitation of wireless networks. The persistent and exponential increase in the usage of wireless communication services demands for enhanced reliability, transmission range and efficiency. This can be achieved byexploring and proposing different propagation techniques and models. This thesis evaluates a network model which makes use of an adaptive modulation coding scheme in the presence of an Amplify-and-Forward relaying environment. We deploy adaptive modulation technique in combination with Amplify-and-Forward relaying transmission mechanism to select the best suitable transmission path and obtain better transmission efficiency for a wireless communication system. The network model thus designed comprises of two links, one considering the relay transmission path that travels from the source-to-relay-to-destination, and the other link considering the direct transmission path traveling from the source to the destination, while both the links undergo Nakagami-m fading. In addition, the system ensures better performance in different conditions by making use of adaptive modulation and coding scheme and deploying distinct modulation and coding schemes based on the condition of the communication channel. The performance of this system model is analysed through mathematical analysis and the results are validated and depicted through simulation in MATLAB under different conditions. We have thereby derived the closed-form expressions for the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Outage Probability, and the Packet Error Rate (PER) for the considered network model in the Nakagami-m fading environment. Different fading parameters that affect the system performance are considered and varied while obtaining the required results through MATLAB simulations. The system model proposed significantly reduces the outage probability and packet error rate and aids in achieving better system performance and reliability.

Parametric Estimation of Stochastic Fading Channels and Their Role in Adaptive Radios

The detrimental effects rapid power fluctuation has on wireless narrowband communication channels has long been a concern of the mobile radio community as appropriate channel models seek to gauge link quality. Furthermore, advances in signal processing capabilities and the desire for spectrally efficient and low power radio systems have rekindled the interest for adaptive transmission schemes, hence some method of quickly probing the link quality and/or predicting channel conditions is required. Mathematical distributions for modeling the channel profile seek to estimate fading parameters from a finite number of discrete time samples of signal amplitude. While the statistical inference of such estimators has proven to be robust to rapidly shifting channel conditions, the benefits are quickly realized at the expense of processing complexity. Furthermore, computations of the best-known estimation techniques are often iterative, tedious, and complex. This thesis takes a renewed look at estimating fading parameters for the Nakagami-m, Rice-K, and Weibull distributions, specifically by showing that the need to solve transcendental equations in the estimators can be circumvented through use of polynomial approximation in the least-squared error sense or via asymptotic series expansion which often lead to closed-form and simplified expressions. These new estimators are compared to existing ones, the performances of which are comparable while preserving a lower computational complexity. In addition, the thesis also investigates the impact knowledge of the fading profile has on systems employing adaptive switching modulation schemes by characterizing performance in terms of average bit error rates (BER) and spectral efficiency. A channel undergoing Rice-$K$ fading on top of log-normal shadowing is simulated by correlating samples of received signal amplitude according to the user's doppler speed, carrier frequency, etc. The channel's throughput and BER performances are analyzed using the above estimation techniques and compared to non-estimation assumptions. Further discussion on narrowband fading parameter estimation and its applicability to wireless communication channels is provided. / Master of Science

OPTIMIZED FUZZY BASED POWER CONTROL STRATEGY IN COGNITIVE RADIO NETWORKS IN MULTI FADING PROPAGATION ENVIRONMENTS

In this thesis we have considered a cognitive radio network (CRN) with a pair of primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) in spectrum sharing networks in path-loss and without path-loss propagation environments under identically distributed m-Nakagami fading channel. The thesis consists of three parts. In the first part we propose an optimized Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) based power control strategy in cognitive radio networks (CRN) in spectrum sharing network in without path-loss propagation environment. The second part proposes an optimized Takagi-Sugeno FIS based power control strategy in cognitive radio networks in spectrum sharing network in path-loss propagation environment. For without path-loss propagation environment the proposed FIS takes the interference channel gain ratio between SU transmitter (CUtx) and PU receiver (PUrx) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) towards PU transmitter (PUtx) as antecedents and outputs the power scaling factor for SU. For path-loss propagation environment the proposed FIS takes the relative distance ratio between CUtx and PUrx and SNR towards PUtx as antecedents and outputs the power scaling factor for SU. The output power scaling factor is used to vary the transmit power of SU such that it does not degrade the quality of service (QoS) of PU link. The third part presents an implementation of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmission technique in CRN. The OFDM technique has intellectual attractive features like coping with the inter symbol interference (ISI), while providing increasing spectral efficiency and improved performance. This can be used in emergency conditions where transmission requires reliability and high data rate. The OFDM transmission technique is applied towards SU transmitter in CRN, which enables SU to utilize the spectrum efficiently under various fading environments. Spectrum sharing networks in with and without path-loss propagation environments and OFDM transmission were tested for bit error rate (BER) performance after fading effects from m-Nakagami fading channel. We conclude that by applying Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) based power control strategy we can improve the BER performance of PU when compared with no power control strategy and with other fuzzy based power control technique. OFDM transmission technique gives us better data rate and slightly improved BER in CRN hence making it suitable for use in emergency conditions. / mobile: 0735032048 (Muneeb Goraya)
