Thesis (M.A. (African languages)) --University of Limpopo, 2013 / The main aim of this study is to analyse nemesis in Ndlandlati ya Malenga by A.D Mahatlani and Mibya ya Nyekanyeka by B.K.M Mtombeni. Chapter one outlines the background of the research. This chapter deals with the theme and the methodology of the reseach. This chapter outlines the different studies that were done on Xitsonga Literature at Honours, Masters and Doctoral levels. This chapter also shows the methodology, the scope and definitions of important terms that are used in this study. Chapter two defines characterization on its broadness, looking at Ndlandlati ya Malenga by A.D Mahatlani and Mibya ya Nyekanyeka by B.K.M Mtombeni. Chapter three outlines the biographies of the A.D Mahatlani, the author of Ndlandlati ya Malenga and B.K.M Mtombeni, the author of Mibya ya Nyekanyeka. This chapter also deals with the summary of the book called Ndlandlati ya Malenga and Mibya ya Nyekanyeka. ix Chapter four deals with the analysis of nemesis in Ndlandlati ya Malenga by A.D. Mahatlani and Mibya ya Nyekanyeka hi B.K.M. Mtombeni. This chapter depicts different characters who had problems or challenges in life and the result thereof by failing to accept the situation they found themselves in, by failing to resolve them. Design, Implementation, and Formal Verification of On-demand Connection Establishment Scheme for TCP Module of MPICH2 Library

Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a standard library interface for writing parallel programs. The MPI specification is broadly used for solving engineering and scientific problems on parallel computers, and MPICH2 is a popular MPI implementation developed at Argonne National Laboratory. The scalability of MPI implementations is very important for building high performance parallel computing applications. The initial TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) network module developed for Nemesis communication sub-system in the MPICH2 library, however, was not scalable in how it established connections: pairwise connections between all of an application's processes were established during the initialization of the application (the library call to MPI_Init), regardless of whether the connections were eventually needed or not. In this work, we have developed a new TCP network module for Nemesis that establishes connections on-demand. The on-demand connection establishment scheme is designed to improve the scalability of the TCP network module in MPICH2 library, aiming to reduce the initialization time and the use of operating system resources of MPI applications. Our performance benchmark results show that MPI_Init in the on-demand connection establishment scheme becomes a fast constant time operation, and the additional cost of establishing connections later is negligible. The on-demand connection establishment between two processes, especially when two processes attempt to connect to each other simultaneously, is a complex task due to race-conditions and thus prone to hard-to-reproduce defects. To assure ourselves of the correctness of the TCP network module, we modeled its design using the SPIN model checker, and verified safety and liveness properties stated as Linear Temporal Logic claims.

The Nemesis System: How games create stories

This paper analyzes the Nemesis System in Middle Earth: Shadow of War (2017) developed by Monolith Productions and explores the system’s way of creating stories. For years, there has been a debate about whether or not stories belong in games, with supporters on all sides. There are different ways to provide stories in games and in this study, the focus has been on game mechanics, emergent narrative, and interactive storytelling. These three elements are all common ways of creating stories in games. Formal Analysis is the main method used in this paper. This specific method often pairs well with smaller systems of larger games rather than an entire game, as it examines specific elements closely and explains them in detail. The game was played one time by each author and the system’s behavior was documented to be able to examine it fully. This analysis aims to provide knowledge of how stories in games can be created, and it focuses specifically on how the Nemesis System manages to do so using mechanics, interactive storytelling, and emergent narrative.

Dentre os planos que Albert Camus estabeleceu para a sua obra, prevaleceu nos seus escritos e declarações a tríplice que incluía os ciclos do absurdo, da revolta e do amor. Cada um dos ciclos seria composto de pelo menos uma peça de teatro, um romance e um ensaio, além de também ser acompanhado de um mito central, sendo respectivamente Sísifo, Prometeu e Nêmesis. Com a sua morte súbita em acidente de carro aos 46 anos, o escritor deixou alguns vestígios do que viria a compor o seu terceiro ciclo: o romance inacabado O primeiro homem, anotações sobre a peça Don Fausto e elementos para o ensaio O mito de Nêmesis. A presente pesquisa reúne e contextualiza os rastros deixados por Camus em torno da sua relação com o mito de Nêmesis a fim de oferecer uma chave de leitura para a sua obra e expor um panorama formal, temático e filosófico de um dos seus últimos projetos de ensaio. / Among the plans that Albert Camus has established to his work it has prevailed, in his writings and declarations, the triple that includes cycles of absurd, revolt and love. Each one of the cycles would be composed at least of a theater play, a novel and an essay. Besides, they are also followed by a central myth, being Sisyphus, Prometheus and Nemesis. After Camus sudden death at age 46, he left some traces of what would it be consisted his third cycle: the unfinished novel The first man, notes about the play Don Faust and elements for the essay The myth of Nemesis. The presented research reunites and contextualizes the traces let by Camus around his relationship with the myth of Nemesis in order to offer a reading key to his work and to expose a formal, thematic and philosophical overview of this essay project.

Latitudinaria latitude in thought or conduct

Latitudinaria* explores and critiques the ambivalence between current technological progress and the consequently depersonalised social structures and systems. I am using the development from mechanical Automata to mass production juxtaposed to Charlie Chaplin??s film and Jean Tinguelys kinetic art, as examples for the change of the social condition from the industrialisation to the current post-industrial era. The change of social condition I refer to as the ??depersonalisation?? or ??dehumanisation?? effect supported by my working experiences in the health system. The ??medicalisation of the life span?? and the discrepancy of creating a sustainable future less profit orientated are two indicators of how far we have been removed from our bodies. These observations are supported by the writing of Ivan Illich??s Medical Nemesis and Frank Schirrmachers?? analysis of the change of the social structure using the family configuration as an example. These conceptual ideas are visualised by a selection of kinetic art works and video installations. In the heart of this body of work is the process-orientated documentation of Zero AGL project. The project documents the journey of a discarded airplane that was re-assembled and reanimated by myself and a group of volunteers supported by local businesses. The struggle of the group of people stands as a metaphor for the current dilemma of the restricted usage of public space. Further it reflects on my own limitations dealing with the Australian outback culture and the transition of my own sculptural practice from small scale art works into the arena of life size public Art. Those experiences shaped the process and the direction of the project. The motivation for the creation of the body of kinetic sculptures and video installation is to highlight the absurdity of social constructed categories and controlling systems in a post-industrial society. The subject matter focuses on the social construction of the categories of the ??Norm?? and the limitations of failure. Latitudinaria gives the audience a lateral view on how human betterment is not always essentially connected to technological progress but on transforming ideas and enhancing it from a different point of view. * freedom from normal restraints, limitations and regulations.
