Planejamento agregado em redes de distribuição secundária - modelo alternativo para empresas com cadastro de redes reduzido. / Investments planning in low voltage distribution networks - alternative model for companies with reduced database.

As redes secundárias de distribuição são item de extrema importância no processo de levar a energia produzida de uma fonte até o consumidor final. Dentro de uma Empresa Concessionária de Distribuição de Energia Elétrica o setor de planejamento, juntamente com o grupo técnico, deve realizar o planejamento dos investimentos necessários nos níveis de alta, média e baixa tensão, sendo que para a baixa tensão (redes secundárias de distribuição), normalmente utilizam-se os dados históricos e a média de investimentos dos últimos anos (de três a cinco últimos anos). Em geral não são encontrados nestas Empresas os cadastramentos das redes secundárias de distribuição ou então, quando estes existem, muitas vezes não são confiáveis. Neste ponto, esta dissertação de mestrado apresentará, aplicará e discutirá os resultados de uma metodologia de geração de redes secundárias de distribuição a partir dos dados das redes primárias de distribuição (média tensão) e dos ativos da Empresa, tendo como foco os investimentos necessários para estas dentro do planejamento agregado de investimentos. O trabalho proposto visa criar condições para que as Empresas enquadradas na situação anterior possam realizar o seu planejamento de baixa tensão valendo-se da aplicação de uma metodologia capaz de gerar tais redes. Uma vez criadas, tais redes serão inseridas dentro de um software de planejamento agregado de investimentos que fornecerá o valor total das aplicações necessárias para os próximos dez anos (planejamento decenal – longo prazo). Ao final do processo, poderá ser observado que os resultados obtidos são muito próximos dos valores esperados para as redes secundárias reais e, com isto, a dissertação discutirá como a metodologia foi implementada, os detalhes da aplicação e, até mesmo, todo o processo de planejamento para três Empresas Concessionárias de Distribuição de Energia Elétrica. Já de posse dos resultados, poderá afirmar-se que o processo produziu valores de muito boa aderência e, assim, os investimentos obtidos para as redes secundárias poderão ser aceitos pelo grupo de planejamento da Empresa. Como conseqüência dos valores de investimentos obtidos para os dez anos, poderão ser observados ainda, guardadas algumas considerações especiais, os valores dos custos marginais de baixa tensão, item de grande importância no planejamento de redes de distribuição. / The low voltage distribution networks are an item of extreme importance in the process of delivering the produced energy from a plant (supply) to the final consumer. In an Electric Power Distribution Company the planning group (sector), together with the technical group, must accomplish the planning of the necessary investments in the high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage levels, and for low voltage distribution networks, usually the historical data and the average of investments of the last years are used (from three to last five years). In general the databases of low voltage networks are not found in these Companies or then, when these exist, a lot of times they are not reliable. For this, this article will show, apply and discuss the results of a methodology for generating low voltage distribution networks starting from the database of the medium voltage distribution networks and of the assets of the Company, having as focus the necessary investments for these networks in planning of investments. The proposed work wishes to create conditions so that the Companies that are in the previous situation can accomplish their planning on low voltage distribution networks using a methodology capable to generate such nets. Once created, such nets will be inserted in a software of planning of investments that will supply the total amount of investments for them for the next ten years (long period planning). In the end of the process, it will be observed that the obtained results are very close to the expected values for the real low voltage distribution networks and, with this, the article will discuss how the methodology was implemented, the details of the application and, even, the whole planning process for three Electric Power Distribution Companies. With the results, it will be affirmed that the process produces values of very good adherence and, for this, the investments obtained for low voltage distribution networks can be accepted by the planning group in the Company. As a consequence of the investments values obtained for the ten years, it will be able to be observed, kept some special considerations, the values of the marginal costs of low voltage, item of great importance in the planning of distribution networks.

Micro-mechanical mechanisms for deformation in polymer-material structures

In this thesis, the focus has been on micro-mechanical mechanisms in polymer-based materials and structures. The first part of the thesis treats length-scale effects on polymer materials. Experiments have showed that the smaller the specimen, the stronger is the material. The length-scale effect was examined experimentally in two different polymers materials, polystyrene and epoxy. First micro-indentations to various depths were made on polystyrene. The experiments showed that length-scale effects in inelastic deformations exist in polystyrene. It was also possible to show a connection between the experimental findings and the molecular length. The second experimental study was performed on glass-sphere filled epoxy, where the damage development for tensile loading was investigated. It could be showed that the debond stresses increased with decreasing sphere diameter. The debonding grew along the interface and eventually these cracks kinked out into the matrix. It was found that the length to diameter ratio of the matrix cracks increased with increasing diameter. The experimental findings may be explained by a length-scale effect in the yield process which depends on the strain gradients. The second part of the thesis treats mechano-sorptive creep in paper, i.e. the acceleration of creep by moisture content changes. Paper can be seen as a polymer based composite that consists of a network of wood fibres, which in its turn are natural polymer composites. A simplified network model for mechano-sorptive creep has been developed. It is assumed that the anisotropic hygroexpansion of the fibres leads to large stresses at the fibre-fibre bonds when the moisture content changes. The resulting stress state will accelerate creep if the fibre material obeys a constitutive law that is non-linear in stress. Fibre kinks are included in order to capture experimental observations of larger mechano-sorptive creep effects in compression than in tension. Furthermore, moisture dependent material parameters and anisotropy are taken into account. Theoretical predictions based on the developed model are compared to experimental results for anisotropic paper both under tensile and compressive loading at varying moisture content. Vilken roll har den kulturella globaliseringen på visuell design i tidningsbranschen? Medier är i konstant rörelse och världen har blivit ett öppet kulturellt utrymme där olika kulturer kan förmedlas via medier. Företag globaliserar sin verksamhet vilket gör att kulturella produkter som Coca-Cola och Nike är välkända runt om i världen. Samtidigt diskuteras de konsekvenser som globaliseringen av kulturella produkter kan ha på världen och om detta leder till homogenisering eller hybridisering av kultur. Kvinnomagasinet Cosmopolitan är ett globalt varumärke som existerar i över 100 länder. Den fråga som uppstår är om en stark kulturell produkt som Cosmopolitan har satt en standard för andra kvinnomagasins estetiska uttryck i andra länder. Vilka likheter och skillnader finns det i den visuella designen mellan det amerikanska kvinnomagasinet och populära kvinnomagasin i andra länder? I denna studie analyserades den visuella designen på populära kvinnomagasins omslag i Brasilien, Förenade Arabemiraten, Indien, Thailand, Tjeckien och USA under året 2012 och urvalet av länder baserades på religiös tillhörighet i de olika länderna. Eftersom religion är intimt förknippat med kultur var detta ett effektivt sätt i ett försök att få material som representerade olika kulturer i världen. Genom att använda både en kvantitativ och kvalitativ innehållsanalys kunde flera olika delar av materialet analyseras på olika nivåer. Resultatet av vår undersökning visade att det finns en variation av både likheter och skillnader i den visuella designen på kvinnomagasinens omslag. Med hjälp av teorier i kultur och globalisering gick det att se att både homogenisering och hybridisering av kultur är aktuellt inom tidningsbranschen, då det verkar finnas en viss standardisering av visuell design, samtidigt som det finns en blandning av kulturella referenser. Studien visar att kulturell globalisering kan påverka den visuella designen på kulturella produkter på olika sätt och öppnar upp för intressant vidare forskning inom ämnen som kulturell globalisering, homogenisering och hybridisering av kultur samt hur kulturella estetiska uttryck kan ta form i olika kulturer. / What role does cultural globalization have regarding visual design in the magazine industry? The media is in constant motion and the world has become a more open cultural space where different cultures can be communicated through media. Companies globalize their business, which makes cultural products like Coca-Cola and Nike well known all around the world. There are discussions about the implications that globalization of cultural products will have on the world and if this might lead to homogenization or hybridization of culture. The women's magazine Cosmopolitan is a global brand that exists in over a 100 countries. The question that arises is whether a strong cultural product that Cosmopolitan is setting a standard forwomen’s magazines in other countries regarding their aesthetic expressions. What kind of similarities and differences are there in the visual design of the American women's magazine and popular women's magazines in other countries? This study analyzed the visual design on covers of popular women’s magazines in Brazil, United Arab Emirates, India, Thailand, the CzechRepublic and the United States over the year 2012. The selection of countries was based on religious affiliation in the different countries and since religion is closely related to culture, this was an effective way in an attempt to access material that represented different cultures in the world. By using both a quantitative and qualitative content analysis, several different parts of the material could be analyzed on different levels. The results of our study showed that there are a variety of both similarities and differences in the visual design of women's magazines covers. Using theories about culture and globalization made it possible to see that both homogenization and hybridization of culture is current in the magazine industry. There seems to be some kind of standardization of visual design but at the same time, there is also a mix of cultural references on the covers. The study shows that cultural globalization can affect the visual design of cultural products in different ways and opens up for interesting topics in further research, such as cultural globalization, homogenization and hybridization of culture and how cultural aesthetic expressions takes shape in various cultures.

隨著個人電腦與網際網路科技的逐漸成熟,網路上每日都有巨量資料(Big Data)產生。近年來隨著社群網站的崛起,如何處理這些巨量的社群資料,並有效率地提供出有意義的社群資訊,將是這幾年社群網路領域研究的重點。每當內閣改組消息一出的時候,各政府部門單位的官職繼任官員,都會成為社會公眾關注的議題。本研究將使用中華民國政府官職資料庫,以社群網路分析與連結預測理論為基礎,並透過資料庫中所提供的資料,隨著不同評選時間點以及評選官職建置出網路。擷取網路的資訊,利用本文所提出的多面向模型(Multiperspective Model)產生多種觀點的分數。接著使用評選模型(Evaluation Model)將各個觀點的分數整合,進行某官員繼任某官職可能性計算,然後輸出官職繼任官員的評選清單(Evaluation List)。最後對輸出的評選清單分別對空降繼任狀況、各級上司對於繼任人選決定影響力、單一觀點與多觀點評選方式的評選結果、多觀點評選方式下重視的觀點,以及官職繼任成因五項分析進行探討。 / With the well development of personal PC and the Internet technology, there is a huge amount of data (Big Data) being generated on the Internet every day. Because of the debut and rise of social websites, how to deal with such a huge amount of community information as well as efficiently provide meaningful data to the public has been an explored main issue in the field of social network research in recent years. When the news about cabinet changing was released, the successor of various government departments will become the actively concerned topic for the public. This research applied a government position transaction database as the elements to build the network, which based on Social Network Analysis and Link Prediction theory with different evaluation position and evaluation time. Captured information in the network was used to generate the scores of multiple perspectives according to the Multiperspective Model. Then using the Evaluation Model, which can integrate each observed perspective, and calculate the probability of an official succeeds of a position. Finally the network could output the evaluation list of position successor. In the end, the outcome of the evaluation list was applied to analyze and discuss the following 5 research questions: The situation that the successor isn’t from the unit of successive position, the influence of all levels superiors on the succession decision, result of evaluative methods of a single view and multiple perspective, the important perspective of Multiperspective evaluation, and causal relationship of official successor.

Development of a multimodal port freight transportation model for estimating container throughput

Computer based simulation models have often been used to study the multimodal freight transportation system. But these studies have not been able to dynamically couple the various modes into one model; therefore, they are limited in their ability to inform on dynamic system level interactions. This research thesis is motivated by the need to dynamically couple the multimodal freight transportation system to operate at multiple spatial and temporal scales. It is part of a larger research program to develop a systems modeling framework applicable to freight transportation. This larger research program attempts to dynamically couple railroad, seaport, and highway freight transportation models. The focus of this thesis is the development of the coupled railroad and seaport models. A separate volume (Wall 2010) on the development of the highway model has been completed. The model railroad and seaport was developed using Arena® simulation software and it comprises of the Ports of Savannah, GA, Charleston, NC, Jacksonville, FL, their adjacent CSX rail terminal, and connecting CSX railroads in the southeastern U.S. However, only the simulation outputs for the Port of Savannah are discussed in this paper. It should be mentioned that the modeled port layout is only conceptual; therefore, any inferences drawn from the model's outputs do not represent actual port performance. The model was run for 26 continuous simulation days, generating 141 containership calls, 147 highway truck deliveries of containers, 900 trains, and a throughput of 28,738 containers at the Port of Savannah, GA. An analysis of each train's trajectory from origin to destination shows that trains spend between 24 - 67 percent of their travel time idle on the tracks waiting for permission to move. Train parking demand analysis on the adjacent shunting area at the multimodal terminal seems to indicate that there aren't enough containers coming from the port because the demand is due to only trains waiting to load. The simulation also shows that on average it takes containerships calling at the Port of Savannah about 3.2 days to find an available dock to berth and unload containers. The observed mean turnaround time for containerships was 4.5 days. This experiment also shows that container residence time within the port and adjacent multimodal rail terminal varies widely. Residence times within the port range from about 0.2 hours to 9 hours with a mean of 1 hour. The average residence time inside the rail terminal is about 20 minutes but observations varied from as little as 2 minutes to a high of 2.5 hours. In addition, about 85 percent of container residence time in the port is spent idle. This research thesis demonstrates that it is possible to dynamically couple the different sub-models of the multimodal freight transportation system. However, there are challenges that need to be addressed by future research. The principal challenge is the development of a more efficient train movement algorithm that can incorporate the actual Direct Traffic Control (DTC) and / or Automatic Block Signal (ABS) track segmentation. Such an algorithm would likely improve the capacity estimates of the railroad network. In addition, future research should seek to reduce the high computational cost imposed by a discrete process modeling methodology and the adoption of single container resolution level for terminal operations. A methodology combining both discrete and continuous process modeling as proposed in this study could lessen computational costs and lower computer system requirements at a cost of some of the feedback capabilities of the model This tradeoff must be carefully examined.

Natural hydrate-bearing sediments: Physical properties and characterization techniques

An extensive amount of natural gas trapped in the subsurface is found as methane hydrate. A fundamental understanding of natural hydrate-bearing sediments is required to engineer production strategies and to assess the risks hydrates pose to global climate change and large-scale seafloor destabilization. This thesis reports fundamental studies on hydrate nucleation, morphology and the evolution of unsaturation during dissociation, followed by additional studies on sampling and pressure core testing. Hydrate nucleation is favored on mineral surfaces and it is often triggered by mechanical vibration. Continued hydrate crystal growth within sediments is governed by capillary and skeletal forces; hence, the characteristic particle size d10 and the sediment burial depth determine hydrate morphologies in natural sediments. In aged hydrate-bearing sand, Ostwald ripening leads to patchy hydrate formation; the stiffness approaches to the lower bound at low hydrate saturation and the upper bound at high hydrate saturation. Hydrate saturation and pore habit alter the pore size variability and interconnectivity, and change the water retention curve in hydrate-bearing sediments. The physical properties of hydrate-bearing sediments are determined by the state of stress, porosity, and hydrate saturation. Furthermore, hydrate stability requires sampling, handling, and testing under in situ pressure, temperature, and stress conditions. Therefore, the laboratory characterization of natural hydrate-bearing sediments faces inherent sampling disturbances caused by changes in stress and strain as well as transient pressure and temperature changes that affect hydrate stability. While pressure core technology offers unprecedented opportunities for the study of hydrate-bearing sediments, careful data interpretation must recognize its inherent limitations.

Large-scale modeling of epileptic seizures dynamics

Les crises épileptiques sont des épisodes paroxysmiques d'activité cérébrale hypersynchrone. Ce travail de thèse s'attache à examiner les mécanismes de propagation des crises d'épilepsie sur une échelle temporelle lente et une grande échelle spatiale dans le cerveau humain et à les appliquer au contexte clinique. Chez les patients souffrant d'épilepsie partielle réfractaire, les crises débutent dans certaines régions localisées du cerveau, dénommées zone épileptogène, avant de recruter des régions distantes. Le succès de l'ablation chirurgicale de la zone epileptogène dépend principalement de sa délimitation adéquate, un problème souvent épineux en pratique clinique. À cela s'ajoute notre compréhension parcellaire des mécanismes à l'origine des crises et de leur propagation. Nous utilisons un modèle mathématique de masse neuronale reproduisant le décours temporel de l'activité moyenne critique et intercritique d'une région cérébrale, guidé de manière autonome par une variable permittive lente. Nous introduisons tout d'abord un couplage permittif lent entre ces masses neuronales, afin de révéler l'importance de la variété lente dans le recrutement des régions cérébrales dans la crise. Nous présentons ensuite un pipeline de traitement des données structurelles et de diffusion IRM pour reconstruire automatiquement le cerveau virtuel d'un patient. Nous utilisons ensuite une analyse de stabilité linéaire et la connectivité large-échelle pour prédire la zone de propagation. Nous appliquons notre méthode à un jeu de données de 15 patients épileptiques et démontrons l'importance du connectome pour prédire la direction de propagation des crises. / Epileptic seizures are paroxysmal hypersynchronizations of brain activity, spanning several temporal and spatial scales. In the present thesis, we investigate the mechanisms of epileptic seizure propagation on a slow temporal and large spatial scale in the human brain and apply them to a clinical context. For patients with partial refractory epilepsy, seizures arise from a localized region of the brain, the so-called epileptogenic zone, before recruiting distant regions. Success of the resective surgery of the epileptogenic zone depends on its correct delineation, which is often difficult in clinical practice. Furthermore, the mechanisms of seizure onset and recruitment are still largely unknown. We use a mathematical neural mass model to reproduce the time course of interictal and ictal mean activity of a brain region, in which the switching between these states is guided by an autonomous slow permittivity variable. We first introduce a slow permittivity coupling function between these neural masses, hypothesizing the importance of the slow manifold in the recruitment of brain regions into the seizure. Before exploring large-scale networks of such coupled systems, we present a processing pipeline for automatic reconstruction of a patient's virtual brain, including surface and connectivity (i.e., connectome), using structural and diffusion MRI, and tractography methods. Using linear stability analysis and large-scale connectivity, we predict the propagation zone. We apply our method to a dataset of 15 epileptic patients and establish the importance of the connectome in determining large-scale propagation of epileptic seizures.

Simulations of heat and mass transfer within the capillary evaporator of a two-phase loop / Simulation tridimensionnelle des échanges de masse et de chaleur dans les évaporateurs capillaires

Le contrôle thermique des composants électroniques embarqués dans les engins spatiaux est souvent assuré par des boucles fluides diphasiques à pompage capillaire (Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) ou Capillary Pumped Loop (CPL)). La présente étude est centrée sur les évaporateurs des LHP. Ils sont composés principalement d’un bâti métallique, d’une mèche poreuse et de cannelures. Le milieu poreux est initialement saturé en liquide. La charge thermique à évacuer est appliquée sur le bâti entraînant la vaporisation du liquide au sein de la mèche. La vapeur est ensuite récoltée au sein des cannelures pour être évacuée. L’étude est effectuée sur une cellule unitaire de l’évaporateur. Dans le but d’étudier les transferts de masse et de chaleur, un modèle de réseau de pores 3D dit mixte a été développé. Les champs de pression et de température sont calculés à partir des équations macroscopiques tandis que la capillarité est gérée à l’aide d’une approche réseau de pore classique. L’un des avantages d’une telle formulation est de pouvoir accéder à la répartition des phases liquide et vapeur au sein de l’espace poral du milieu poreux. Il a ainsi été mis en évidence qu’une zone diphasique (zone où le liquide et la vapeur coexistent) se met en place pour une large gamme de flux lorsque la vapeur apparait dans la structure capillaire. Cette zone diphasique est localisée sous le bâti métallique et est corrélée avec les meilleures performances thermiques de l’évaporateur. Cette observation diffère fortement de l’hypothèse souvent considérée de la présence d’une zone sèche dans cette région. Trois positions différentes de cannelures ont été étudiées. Il a ainsi pu être mis en évidence que la plus large gamme de flux, pour laquelle les performances de l’évaporateur sont les meilleures, est obtenue lorsque les cannelures sont usinées à la surface extérieure de la mèche. Toujours dans le but d’améliorer les performances thermiques de l’évaporateur, une étude paramétrique a été menée pour mettre en évidence les paramètres qui influencent positivement la conductance de l’évaporateur. Finalement, l’étude de l’influence d’une mèche biporeuse/bidispersée, c’est-à-dire d’un milieu poreux caractérisé par deux tailles de pores/liens différentes, a été menée. La distribution des phases liquide et vapeur au sein de la structure capillaire bidispersée est différente de celle d’un milieu mono-poreux du fait des chemins préférentiels créés par les larges pores. Par ailleurs, l’analyse thermique a montré qu’un tel milieu poreux permet de réduire considérablement la température du bâti ainsi que d’augmenter les performances thermiques de l’évaporateur. Un deuxième modèle basé sur une approche continue a été développé. Cette méthode utilise l’algorithme IMPES (IMplicit Pressure Explicit Saturation) et est couplé à la résolution du champ de température avec changement de phase. Ce type de résolution permet d’accéder à un champ de saturation. Les résultats ainsi obtenus sont en bon accord avec ceux prédits par le modèle réseau de pores mixte. Le modèle continu, moins gourmand en temps de calcul, permet d’envisager des simulations sur une plus grande partie de l’évaporateur. / The thermal control of electronic devices embedded in spacecraft is often carried out by capillary twophase loop systems (Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) or Capillary Pumped Loop (CPL)). This thesis focuses on the LHP evaporators. They mostly consist of a metallic casing, a porous wick and vapour grooves. The porous medium is initially saturated with liquid. The heat load is applied at the external surface of the casing inducing the vaporisation of the liquid within the wick. The vapour is then evacuated thanks to the vapour grooves. A unit cell of the evaporator is studied and corresponds to our computational domain. A so-called 3D mixed pore network model has been developed in order to study the heat and mass transfers. Pressure and temperature fields are computed from macroscopic equations, while the capillarity is managed using the classical pore network approach. The main advantage of such formulation is to obtain the liquid-vapour phase distribution within the porous medium pore space. The work highlights that a two-phase zone (characterized by the coexistence of the liquid and the vapour) exists for a large range of fluxes when vaporisation takes place within the capillary structure. This twophase zone is located right under the casing and is positively correlated with the best evaporator thermal performances. This result differs from the often made assumption of a dry region under the casing. Three different groove locations are tested. This investigation highlights that evaporator thermal performances are the best over a large range of fluxes for grooves manufactured at the external surface of the wick. In complement, a parametric study is performed to highlight parameters which impact positively the evaporator thermal performances. Finally, a biporous/bidispersed wick, i.e. a wick with a bimodal pore/throat size distribution, is studied. The liquidvapour phase distribution within the capillary structure is different from the one for a monoporous structure due to preferential vapour paths created by the large throats and pores-network. Moreover, the thermal analysis shows that such a porous medium permits to reduce considerably the evaporator wall temperature and to increase the evaporator thermal performances. A second model is developed based on a continuum approach. This method uses the IMPES (IMplicit Pressure Explicit Saturation) algorithm coupled with the heat transfer with phase change. Results are in good agreement with those predicted by the mixed pore network model. The continuum model, requiring less computing time, should allow considering larger sub domains of the evaporator.

The objective of this dissertation is to investigate the factors that influence the design of wide-area wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks. Wide-area networks are presented as communication networks capable of transporting voice and data communication over large geographical areas. These networks typically span a whole country, region or even continent.The rapid development and maturation of WDM technology over the last decade have been well-received commercially and warrants the development of skills in the field of optical network design.The fundamental purpose of all communication networks and technologies is to satisfy the demand of end-users through the provisioning of capacity over shared and limited physical infrastructure. Consideration of the business aspects related to communications traffic and the grooming thereof are crucial to developing an understanding of customer requirements in terms of the selection and quality of services and applications. Extensive communication networks require complex management techniques that aim to ensure high levels of reliability and revenue generation.An integrated methodology is presented for the design of wide-area WDM optical networks. The methodology harnesses physical, logical, and virtual topologies together with routing and channel assignment (RCA) and clustering processes to enhance objectivity of the design process. A novel approach, based on statistical clustering using the Ward linkage as similarity metric, is introduced for solving the problem of determining the number and positions of the backbone nodes of a wide-area network, otherwise defined as the top level hub nodes of the multi-level network model.
