Investigation of Charon's Craters With Abrupt Terminus Ejecta, Comparisons With Other Icy Bodies, and Formation Implications

On the moon and other airless bodies, ballistically emplaced ejecta transitions from a thinning, continuous inner deposit to become discontinuous beyond approximately one crater radius from the crater rim and can further break into discrete rays and secondary craters. In contrast, on Mars, ejecta often form continuous, distinct, and sometimes thick deposits that transition to a low ridge or escarpment that may be circular or lobate. The Martian ejecta type has been variously termed pancake, rampart, lobate, or layered, and in this work we refer to it as abrupt termini ejecta (ATE). Two main formation mechanisms have been proposed, one requiring interaction of the ejecta with the atmosphere and the other mobilization of near-surface volatiles. ATE morphologies are also unambiguously seen on Ganymede, Europa, Dione, and Tethys, but they are not as common as on Mars. We have identified up to 38 craters on Charon that show signs of ATE, including possible distal ramparts and lobate margins. These ejecta show morphologic and morphometric similarities with other moons in the solar system, which are a subset of the properties observed on Mars. From comparison of these ejecta on Charon and other solar system bodies, we find the strongest support for subsurface volatile mobilization and ejecta fluidization as the main formation mechanism for the ATE, at least on airless, icy worlds. This conclusion comes from the bodies on which they are found, an apparent preference for certain terrains, and the observation that craters with ATE can be near to similarly sized craters that only have gradational ejecta.

This is important because the promotion of human rights is a stated foreign policy goal, even in security cooperation programs. It will be argued that a human rights focus matters in the selection of training objectives, engagement in the interagency process, and coordination with the host nation. Comparative case analysis of Opening Roads-Ecuador 1987 and New Horizons-Nicaragua 1999 indicates that the post-Cold War US military is implementing some principles congruent with a human rights perspective, such as promoting sustainable development and good governance. / Lieutenant Commander, United States Naval Reserve

This essay focuses on the digitalization of art canonisation in the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo/Nintendo EPD, 2020). Furthermore, the purpose of this essay is to understand which artworks the game incorporates in its museum, as well as how the player can interact with the artworks in question. Bolter and Grusin's remediation theory are thoroughly explored through the material, as well as the maintaining of norms through representation. The conclusion is that the game allows the player to interact restrictedly with the art in the museum, but is allowed more freedom outside of it. However, the restricted interaction is strongly incorporating known norms of how to behave and interact with the museum as an institution. These norms are also applicable in situ – outside of the museum's pixelated world. The aura of the artworks is compromised through the notion that the player can obtain any number of original artworks. Still, the originality and aura of the artworks are secured through the institutionalised environment in the museum. / Uppsatsen behandlar digitaliserad konsts kanonisering i spelet Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo/Nintendo EPD, 2020). Uppsatsens syften är att analysera vilka konstverk som spelet integrerar i sitt museum och hur dessa verk kategoriseras, samt hur spelaren kan interagera med konstverken. Bolter och Grusins remedieringsteorier behandlas utifrån denna frågeställning med fokus på digitalisering och konstrepresentation. Slutsatsen är att spelarens interaktion med konstverken på det digitala museet är begränsad, men att spelaren får mer frihet i spelets andra miljöer. Således följs etablerade konventioner kring hur besökaren på ett museum ska bete sig. Konstverkens aura förändras då spelaren kan inneha hur många originalverk som helst. Trots denna omdefinierade aura stärks däremot verkens originalitet av museets institutionaliserade och auktoritära presentation.

Contextualization of Autonomous Spaceflight Operations for deep space planetary encounters

This work concerns the research and application of data visualization techniques to depict ongoing activities in mankind’s investigation of space as part of a larger open-source visualization- and science-outreach software known as OpenSpace. It involves the construction of a physically accurate virtual environment of our local star group and solar system so as to facilitate development of a robust and generalized solution capable of articulating mission-science to its viewers. The research part is focused on deploying data visualization methods suitable for contextualizing scientific findings towards the general public in a pedagogical manner, with the end goal to provide a fully operational New Horizons visualization on the day of encounter with Pluto for the first public broadcast of OpenSpace across the globe.
