Endomorphism rings of hyperelliptic Jacobians

Kriel, Marelize 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MSc (Mathematics))--University of Stellenbosch, 2005. / The aim of this thesis is to study the unital subrings contained in associative algebras arising as the endomorphism algebras of hyperelliptic Jacobians over finite fields. In the first part we study associative algebras with special emphasis on maximal orders. In the second part we introduce the theory of abelian varieties over finite fields and study the ideal structures of their endomorphism rings. Finally we specialize to hyperelliptic Jacobians and study their endomorphism rings.

The main purpose of this paper it is to study the problem above on Abelian numbers fields in special that ones of prime degree. However, it is necessary to know any techniques for calculating the numbers fiel discriminant, specially, to Abelian fields.

The non-cancellation groups of certain groups which are split extensions of a finite abelian group by a finite rank free abelian group

Mkiva, Soga Loyiso Tiyo January 2008 (has links)
Magister Scientiae - MSc / The groups we consider in this study belong to the class X0 of all nitely generated groups with nite commutator subgroups. We shall eventually narrow down to the groups of the form T owZn for some n 2 N and some nite abelian group T. For a X0-group H, we study the non-cancellation set, (H), which is de ned to be the set of all isomorphism classes of groups K such that H Z = K Z. For X0-groups H, on (H) there is an abelian group structure [38], de ned in terms of embeddings of K into H, for groups K of which the isomorphism classes belong to (H). If H is a nilpotent X0-group, then the group (H) is the same as the Hilton-Mislin (see [10]) genus group G(H) of H. A number of calculations of such Hilton-Mislin genus groups can be found in the literature, and in particular there is a very nice calculation in article [11] of Hilton and Scevenels. The main aim of this thesis is to compute non-cancellation (or genus) groups of special types of X0-groups such as mentioned above. The groups in question can in fact be considered to be direct products of metacyclic groups, very much as in [11]. We shall make extensive use of the methods developed in [30] and employ computer algebra packages to compute determinants of endomorphisms of nite groups. / South Africa

Application of Bridgeland stability to the geometry of abelian surfaces

Alagal, Wafa Abdullah January 2016 (has links)
A key property of projective varieties is the very ampleness of line bundles as this provides embeddings into projective space and allows us to express the variety in equational terms. In this thesis we study the general version of this property which is k- very ampleness of line bundles. We introduce the notation of critical k-very ampleness and compute it for abelian surfaces. The property of k-very ampleness is usually discussed using tools from divisor theory but we take a different approach and use methods from derived algebraic geometry as part of program to use properties of the derived category of a variety to access the geometry of the variety. In particular, we use the Fourier-Mukai transform, moduli spaces of sheaves and properties of Bridgeland stability. We compute walls for certain Bridgeland stable spaces and certain Chern characters and to complete the picture we study the moduli spaces of torsion sheaves with minimal first Chern class and we go on to compute the walls for these as well building on tools developed earlier in the thesis.

Our first goal is to find the lowest value for o the length of a sequence of integers for which we can always find a subsequence of n terms which, together with weight in {1, −1}, assume a value equal to a multiple of n. We also consider one generalizations to Erdös-Ginzburg-Ziv theorem where the sequences are o formed by elements in a finite abelian group and for which we can, under some conditions, atribute any weight on the sums of elements of the sequence.

Atiyah-Singer¿s index theorem is the basic tool employed, along with a vanishing theorem which is due to the stability hypothesis. Our main result is that the transformed bundle is hyperholomorphic and without flat factors. This not only recovers the algebraic results of [7] and that of [12] for the cos q = 0, but also provides a more detailed description of the geometric structure of the transformed bundle. Such results suggest that this Nahm transform can be inverted, cf. [10]. Abdollahi, MJ Ataei, SM Jafarian Amiri and A. Mohammadi Hassanabadi, which characterize groups with a maximal irredundante cover for six subgroups with core-free intersection. As an application of this result we characterize groups that admit a cover for six subgroups own and does not allow coverage an amount of less than six members. We will also show that the largest index |G : D| over all groups G having an irredundant cover for six subgroup with intersection D is 36.
