Temporal Query Answering in DL-Lite with Negation

Borgwardt, Stefan, Thost, Veronika 20 June 2022 (has links)
Ontology-based query answering augments classical query answering in databases by adopting the open-world assumption and by including domain knowledge provided by an ontology. We investigate temporal query answering w.r.t. ontologies formulated in DL-Lite, a family of description logics that captures the conceptual features of relational databases and was tailored for efficient query answering. We consider a recently proposed temporal query language that combines conjunctive queries with the operators of propositional linear temporal logic (LTL). In particular, we consider negation in the ontology and query language, and study both data and combined complexity of query entailment.

Floristic composition and environmental determinants of roadside vegetation in North England.

Akbar, K.F., Hale, William H.G., Headley, Alistair D.D. 2011 January 1918 (has links)
No / The roadside vegetation in some counties of north England (north and west Yorkshire) was studied to determine the community structure according to the British National Vegetation Classification (NVC) and main environmental factors influencing its composition. The data from Phytosociological survey (699 quadrats) and from the physico-chemical analyses of 233 soil samples from 35 sites were obtained. Both the classification (TWINSPAN & MATCH) and ordination programs (Canonical Correspondence Analysis) were used. The roadside vegetation is mainly dominated by few grasses (Arrhenatherum elatius, Festuca rubra, Dactylis glomerata, Lolium perenne, Poa trivialis, Elymus repens, Holcus lanatus) and their associated herbs (Cirsium arvense, Heracleum sphondylium, Urtica dioica). Five NVC Mesotrophic grassland communities (Arrhenatheretum elatioris community MG1, Lolium perenne-Cynosurus cristatus grassland MG6, Lolium perenne leys MG7, Holcus lanatus- Deschampsia cespitosa grassland MG9, Festuca rubra-Agrostis stolonifera-Potentilla anserina grassland MG11) and one Upland Festuca ovina- Agrostis capillaris-Galium saxatile grassland, U4 were identified which in general, exhibited good fit with the typical NVC units. Altitude, pH, potassium, sodium and road age were found to be the main variables affecting the roadside vegetation. By relating the floristic composition with ecological characteristics of the roadside verges, three kinds of pattern of variation are observed. The first pattern is related to regional or geographical characteristics and the second pattern of variation exists across the width of the road verges showing a zonal pattern of plant distribution. The third scale of pattern is active at the local level including micro-environmental conditions, e.g., local edaphic variables.

Vegetation Responses to Seven Silvicultural Treatments in the Southern Appalachians One-Year After Harvesting

Hood, Sharon M. 12 June 2001 (has links)
The vegetation responses to seven silvicultural treatments one growing season after harvesting were examined on seven sites in the southern Appalachian mountains of Virginia and West Virginia. Treatments included: 1) control, 2) understory control by herbicide, 3) group selection, 4) high-leave shelterwood, 5) low-leave shelterwood, 6) leave tree, and 7) clearcut. The effects of harvesting were compared between treatments and between pre-harvest and post-harvest samplings. Species richness, percent cover, and local species extinctions were calculated for sample plots ranging in size from 1m2 to 2 ha. Vegetation richness and cover increased with increasing harvest intensity. Local species extinctions were similar in the control and disturbed treatments. Additional analyses were performed using the control, high-leave shelterwood, and clearcut on five of the seven sites to determine the relationships between soil, litter, and other environmental characteristics and vegetation in the herbaceous layer (<1 m in height). Multivariate analysis techniques were used to analyze average differences in species abundance between pre-harvest and post-harvest and to relate post-harvest vegetation to microsite characteristics. Regional-scale differences in site location were more important in explaining the presence of a species than were environmental characteristics. Within a region, species primarily were distributed along a light/litter weight gradient and secondarily along a soil properties and nutrient gradient. / Master of Science

Light shed on a non-canonical TCA cycle: cell state regulation beyond mitochondrial energy production

Mateska, Ivona, Alexaki, Vasileia 22 May 2024 (has links)
In this recent study,1 the authors analyzed the metabolic gene essentiality scores from genome-wide loss of function CRISPR screens in 769 human cancer cell lines and noticed that TCA cycle-associated genes clustered in two separate groups: one forming the traditional TCA cycle and another related to a non-canonical TCA cycle module. They monitored both modules with elegant tracing studies using [U-13C]glucose which generates citrate labeled with two 13C atoms (M+2).

Brevard Childs : the logic of scripture's textual authority

Driver, Daniel R. January 2009 (has links)
Brevard Childs argues for the inner logic of scripture’s textual authority as an historical reality that gives rise to the material condition by which the church apprehends and experiences God in Christ. The church’s use of (or by) scripture thus has a larger interiority: the shaped canon of scripture, Old and New Testaments, is a rule of faith which accrues authority in the church, through the vehicle of the sensus literalis. Childs’ work has been misplaced, however. Part one locates it internationally, attending to the way it has been read in English and German and finding that it has enjoyed a more patient reception in Europe than in Britain or North America. To illustrate, Childs’ definition of biblical theology is contrasted with that of James Barr. Their differences over gesamtbiblische theology involve opposite turns toward and away from Barthian dogma in biblical inquiry. Part two examines Childs on biblical reference, introducing why intertextuality is not midrashic but deictic—pointing to the res. This coincides with an understanding of the formation of biblical literature. Childs’ argument for canonical shaping is juxtaposed with Hermann Gunkel on tradition history, showing “final form” to be a deliberate inversion of form critical principles. Childs’ interest in the Bible as religious literature is then set alongside his studious confrontation of Judaism, with implications for inter-religious dialogue. Barr and Childs are compared again in part three, which frames their respective senses of indirect and direct biblical reference in terms of allegory. Both see allegory at work in the modern world under certain rules (either biblical criticism or the regula fidei). Their rules affect their articulations of trinitarian dogma. Finally, Psalm102 highlights divergences between modern and pre-modern interpreters. If scripture comprehends the present immediately, some postures of the church toward the synagogue may be excluded.

類典型相關分析及其在 免試入學上採計成績之研究 / A canonical correlation analysis type approach to model a criterion for enrolling high school students

卓惠敏, Cho, Hui Min Unknown Date (has links)
The purpose of implementing the twelve-year compulsory education is to promote the balanced development of learning in students, taking into account their learning quality and normal daily performances in school. As the evaluation standard and method vary among schools, achieving fairness in calculating in-school grades has become an important issue. Dai (2011) considered the correlations between the scores of in-school academic performance and the total score of the BCTEST for junior high schools, which decided to the weightings of all learning subjects. This study extended his concept and method, and took into account the scale scores of all learning subjects. In the closest case of the weightings of all learning subjects and find out the correlations between the scores of in-school academic performance and the BCTEST, and analyse the weightings of all learning subjects. We hope the study can find a better approach that can not only reflect students’ learning situations and achievements for the three years in school but also provide a reference for the evaluation of entering senior high schools without entrance examinations. The research method in this paper employs the theory of canonical correlation analysis. However, due to that fact that weight restrictions are different from the requirements of canonical correlation analysis, it is named as the canonical correlation analysis type approach. In the canonical correlation analysis type approach, we proved that the optimal weights for school subject score and test subject score scales can be obtained by finding the canonical correlation vectors using canonical correlation analysis. Then the Rao-Ghangurad method can further be used for amending, if needed. Finally, the nonnegative canonical correlation vectors generated would be normalized to get the desired result. It is an extremely convenient way to obtain the optimal weight vector. In the case study, we found an interesting phenomenon as follows: When the optimal weight vectors for school subject score and test subject score scales were very close, subjects and tests of the same name had almost the same weight. After comparing several comprehensive school subject scores of different weight distribution, we also found that the results of the equal weighting model commonly used in schools also showed quite good results.

Relations fonctionnelles entre les voies des hormones thyroïdiennes et WNT dans la physiopathologie intestinale : étude de la fonction de sFRP2 / Functional relations between the thyroïd hormones and WNT pathways in the intestinal physiopathology : study of sFRP2 function

Skah, Seham 27 September 2012 (has links)
The intestinal epithelium is a tissue constantly renewing through somatic stem cells located within the crypts. Several signalling pathways control this process and the homeostasis in this tissue. It is now recognized that the deregulation of these pathways is involved in the process of initiation and/or progression of intestinal tumors. My laboratory has described the involvement of thyroid hormones (TH) and their nuclear receptor TRα1 in the control of the intestinal homeostasis via the regulation of Wnt pathway, which plays a key role in the intestinal physiopathology. Specifically, TRα1 directly activates the expression of β-catenin and controls its stabilization through a mechanism involving sFRP2 (secreted frizzled-related protein 2). During my thesis, I participated to the characterization of transgenic mice overexpressing TRα1 in the intestinal epithelium. Moreover, I have been involved in the study of the molecular mechanisms of the cross-regulation between TRα1 and the canonical Wnt in the induction of intestinal tumors. We have therefore demonstrated an oncogenic role of TRα1 in the intestinal epithelium. In addition, the molecular and functional mechanisms involve both effectors of the canonical pathway, β-catenin and TCF4. On the other hand, I carried out the study of sFRP2 function in the intestinal physiopathology, and its action on the Wnt pathway. My data strongly suggest that sFRP2 plays an essential role in the differentiation of epithelial cytotypes. In addition, we showed that sFRP2 is a positive modulator of the canonical and non-canonical (JNK) Wnt. For instance, the absence of sFRP2 expression increases the apoptosis in the intestinal crypts and thus reduces the number of tumors in the double mutant sFRP2-/-/Apc+/1638N compared to simple mutant Apc+/1638N. These results provided original and important data of the functional relationships between TH and Wnt pathways.
