Certified Ejection Seat Weight Ranges and their Effects on Personnel Selection

Jones, Thomas C. 09 1900 (has links)
Human Systems Integration Capstone / Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / Current ejection seat certified aircrew weight ranges (136 to 213 lbs.), such as for the F/A-18, prohibited over one third (38%) of women and (8%) of men from accessing the naval aviation strike pipeline (carrierbased aviation) between 2008 and 2013. This is deleterious to the Naval Aviation Enterprise to restrict access of otherwise qualified and talented applicants to the strike aviation pipeline due to an outdated anthropometric survey based specification. The acceptable level of risk that was utilized by the Naval Aviation Systems Command was overly conservative and needs to be updated to align with current operational risk management principles, actual ejection seat performance mishap data and the naval aviation anthropometric population. This research is a deep exploration of all aspects of this issue and makes recommendations that can be used by Commander of Naval Air Forces in establishing an operational weight limit for all ejection seat aircraft.

The Food Safety Knowledge Level of Certified Food Managers Who Attended Two Self-Selected Training Courses

Payton, Larry Sean 03 October 2013 (has links)
The foodservice industry is dependent on millions of employees daily to ensure proper and safe food handling of food products consumed by the general public. The State of Texas requires food establishments’ management or person in charge be trained in food protection. For this inquiry, the researcher studied the knowledge level gained by food mangers from two food companies and two certification courses. There were 90 food service operations that participated in the study. The data was collected through the use of a food safety knowledge test instrument. The scope of the study was to explore the level of food safety knowledge of two self-selected certified food managers in Texas. Sixty-five percent (65.6%) of the certified food managers were certified by course A and 34.4% were certified by course B. The researcher explored two educational theories that are often utilized in the agricultural education discipline. Adult education and training programs in agriculture should use appropriate and effective instructional methods. Creswell and Martin (1993) inferred a linkage between adult education and instructional design as it related to agriculture. This study explored the phenomenon regarding certified food manager training courses and knowledge level through certification. In agricultural education, lives are affected through education and training. Trede and Wade (1993) suggested that agricultural education helps people improve their lives through an educational process using scientific knowledge. The participants’ knowledge test scores were as follows: course A (n=59) 72.9% and course B (n=31) 69.0%. The resulting t-test was determined to the knowledge test score of course A and course B, and proved not to be statistically significant at an alpha level .05. Thus, the researcher concluded instructional design and adult learning theory did not have an impact on the knowledge level of participants as a result of the two self-selected courses for certified food manager training in this study. Food safety knowledge of participants who spoke English or Korean as their native languages were analyzed closely as they represented the largest population of the participants. Korean as a native language represented the largest group at 45.6% of the population. English as a native language represented the second largest group at 43.3% of the population. Certified Food Manager Training is offered in these languages throughout Texas. Differences were found within the participants’ native or first languages. The certified food managers who identified as English and Korean native or first language resulted a statistically significant comparison when analyzed via independent t-test. The researcher recommends further research on affects of native language on certified food manager training. This research study discusses potential improvements that may be implemented in future research for certified food management training. The scope of this study utilized two self selected courses that were available to the participating certified food managers. For example, the Food Safety Knowledge Test instrument which was developed specifically for the scope of this research. Although this instrument was only used once it served as a suitable tool for this research project and could serve as a guide for the development of future research instruments. The researcher suggests that future researchers consider utilizing a tested and established research instrument. A study with a broader scope including courses supported by other National and State level accreditation organization as well as increasing the number of participant; may yield additional findings.

UTZ produkce jako alternativa fairtrade / UTZ production as fairtrade alternative

VALENTOVÁ, Věra January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with certification program UTZ Certified representing a certain alternative to the fair trade system. The UTZ belongs to the biggest programs supporting sustainability primarily for coffee, cocoa and tea worldwide. The thesis is divided into two main parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical component is focused on UTZ certification characteristics, determining essential terms, identifying commodities and conditions for its growing within the UTZ Certified. The attention is paid also to trading under fair trade conditions and regarding standards under Fairtrade and WFTO. The practical component deals with levels and product composition of the current offer of UTZ products on the market in chosen area. Furthermore, the focus is on the realization of consumer research aimed at knowledge and interest in UTZ products and fair trade from the consumers' stance. The outcomes obtained from the research done in the retail chain network show that the UTZ offer of products on the market really exists. The results also demonstrate that it is the matter of foreign retail chains whose UTZ offer is often created by products of own private brands. The widest offer of UTZ products was noted in retail chain Lidl, Albert and Kaufland. The product offer is clearly dominated by sweets and chocolate containing the certified UTZ cocoa. The consumer research was done via online questionnaire. Results demonstrate that less than half of Czech consumers are interested in certified products made under responsible production of fair trade and UTZ. The accountable part of consumers has troubles identifying these products on the market while shopping. The most favourite fair trade product is coffee. In case of UTZ, the most favourite product is cocoa. The main drivers for consumers' decision for buying these products is the guarantee of ecological and social consideration, trust in better quality and taste.

Vývoj aktuální situace na trhu s bio osivy v České republice / Development of current situations in organic seed market in the Czech Republic

HŮDA, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
Seed production is an important sector in crop production with high added value. Quality seed enables to exhibit the characteristics of the grown variety and to utilize its revenue potential. The diploma thesis features an analysis of the current market situation with organic certified seed in the Czech Republic in terms of the structure of seed multiplication areas, the quantity of recognized certified seed and permitted conventional untreated seed. Further assessment deals with the need for organic certified seed compared to current production in organic farming, evaluation of the structure of currently used seed in organic farming and possible causes of the lack of organic seed are also determined, including the proposed action. The literature review focuses on environmental seed production legislation, propagation, quality and seed control. The results of this thesis suggest that organic seed is propagated in the CR in an insufficient extent, for example, in comparison with neighbouring Austria. The quantity of organic certified seed in the CR is currently insufficient and does not cover the organic farming needs for growing major crops. Farm saved seed and permitted conventional untreated seed are predominantly used to establish vegetation. Organic seed was used in the minimum quantities.

Projev certifikované a farmářské sadby brambor / The manifestation of certified and farm seed potato

TROPPOVÁ, Halka January 2014 (has links)
Thesis aims to evaluate the performance of certified and farming potato seed cultivars of Red Anna and Monika. Following aspects were evaluated: number of full-grown, tuber yield, the average number of tubers in a bunch, the average weight of tubers in a bunch, the average weight of one tuber and starch content. The experiment started in 2013 on the farm of Ing. Tomáš Dušička in Plasy. In the experiment there were used cultivars of Red Anna and Monika because of good reputation. Certified seed was used in reproduction level C2, farmer seed was gained in the same location. Tubers were planted on the 5th May 2013, using two row seed planter (row spacing 75cm and tuber distance 25cm). Tubers were planted in the height of 16cm. In the planted rows of field experiment there was marked area of 10m2 per repetition, which requires 45 full-grown bunches in the plot. Harvest of experimental plots was carried out manually since 15th to 17th September 2013. Each bunch was dug, then the total number of tubers in a bunch was counted. Finally, the whole bunch was weighted. Tubers were sorted into two categories by size using sieve (mesh size 40mm). Both categories were weighted. Study results reveal that in the first year of planting of own farm seed may not significantly affect the yield and starch content. In case of farm seed of Monika cultivar there was 12% increase in revenue and slightly higher yield of tubers for consumption.

An exploratory examination of reflective thinking in certified human performance improvement professionals

Buck, Joel A. January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Educational Leadership / Royce Ann Collins / This exploratory study investigated reflective thinking by professionals in the workplace and relationships between participant demographics and reflective thinking. The Questionnaire for Reflective Thinking (QRT) was used to assess the quality of reflective thinking in a sample (n = 102) of individuals certified by the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) as Certified Performance Technologists (CPT) (N = 697). Business leaders seek employees who practice reflective thinking. Employers and students expect college coursework to provide the needed skills and educators recognize this need. Researchers have developed reliable measures of reflective thinking, but the quality of reflective thinking practiced by professionals in the workplace is not known. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to examine QRT scores for habitual action, understanding, reflection, and critical reflection, with respect to the demographic variables of gender, age, years of experience, education level, and academic discipline. Significant relationships between age and scores for habitual action, experience and scores for habitual action, education level and scores for understanding, gender and scores for critical reflection, and experience and scores for critical reflection were identified. No other differences in QRT scores based on the independent variable gender, age, experience, education level, or academic discipline were statistically significant.

Supply Chain Transparency of Certified and Conventional Businesses : A case of Coffee Industry in Colombia

Morales, Marcela, Inha, Eini January 2018 (has links)
Companies including their stakeholders, investors and nongovernmental organizations have an increasing interest regarding the information about the impact of their products in terms of who, how and where the products were produced (Kashmanian, 2017). A qualitative field study including interviews and observations was conducted in order to carry out the comparison of Supply Chain Transparency (SCT) between certified and conventional businesses. In fact, it argued that these two type of businesses differ greatly from each other when it comes to the safety and quality of the product (Manning & Baines, 2004), price premiums (Lakhal et al., 2008; Jena et al., 2012), increased environmental (Ibanez & Blackman, 2016; Burivalova et al., 2016) as well as social benefits (Milder et al., 2015; Stranieri, Cavaliere & Banterle, 2017). The comparison of certified and conventional businesses was carried out as a case study in the coffee industry in Colombia, where it is common to have both these type of businesses. Empirical data of three certified businesses was compared to five conventional ones, which is supported by additional interviews. This field study belongs to Minor Field Studies and is supported by a scholarship from Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). Conceptual framework was created for this thesis and it provides new theoretical insights by presenting SCT variables used for conducting a comparison between certified and conventional businesses. The findings of the study suggest that SCT does not exist in the supply chains in the coffee industry in Colombia and by utilizing the conceptual model for analysing the empirical data, this thesis contributes to the academic literature by creating a generally applicable conceptual model of SCT variables, and shows the interrelation between traceability and visibility in supply chains.

Tensionamentos da ficção em Cópia fiel de Abbas Kiarostami / Tensioning fiction: Certified copy by Abbas Kiarostami

Alexandre Wahrhaftig 14 October 2015 (has links)
The film Certified copy (2010), by Abbas Kiarostami, is a strange object within his filmography. It continues to work on issues presented in the director\'s prior works, but it also represents a rupture, indicating a new path. His works continually explored the entanglements between fiction and reality, whereas Certified copy seems to abolish any perspective on an exterior reality to the film\'s fiction. The dramaturgy and the formal constructions of the film (framings, montage, mise en scène) build a conceptual reflection on the very idea of fiction and artistic representation, exploring key-concepts of the work, such as copies and originals. This dissertation intends to investigate through filmic analyses the procedures that tension the notion of cinematic fiction. The text is divided in three parts, each of them aiming at a particular aspect of the fiction explored by the movie, each compressed into one symbolic notion: stage, mirror and window. The stage represents the strict division between reality and fiction: a place of paradoxes and frictions between the actors and their characters. The mirror investigates the infinite repetitions and duplications within the film structure, and also the spectator\'s process of projection and identification. Finally, the window explores the realistic aspect of the film, its \"transparent\" vocation, questioning the possibility of a true access of the real, the original to every copy.

Utvärdering av Near Field Communication och Certified Wireless USB : Säkerhet vid utveckling av applikationer

Varland, Viktor, Karlsson, Mikael January 2008 (has links)
Today’s society is one where technological advances are made daily, which increases the need to stop and assess the risks against users’ integrity when integrating new technology in contemporary systems all the greater. We have taken two technologies, Near Field Communication and Certified Wireless USB, whose envisioned area of use is to be integrated into mobile phones, and evaluated what security threats are revealed for the respective technologies. The threats against security have been identified through research of the standards and existing reports for each technology. Practical experiments have not been conducted on account of us not having access to any equipment to run such trials. The result of our studies is indecisive; pitched against Certified Wireless USB’s rigorous and robust security measures, implemented on hardware level, Near Field Communication’s lack of any such security implementations shines all the brighter. The real difference can be traced to the philosophy behind the technologies – Certified Wireless USB can be perceived as a complete product, while Near Field Communication bears more resemblance to a tool. In order to safely use a tool, knowledge about its use is required, thus in order to securely use Near Field Communication we propose two solutions; secure channel and secure identification, which developers can implement on a software level. Furthermore, we suggest that the implementation of security should be based on an incremental model where the security measures are scaled up in direct correlation with the sensitivity of the information managed. Our results imply that Near Field Communication does not have the inherent security that it should have in order to be safely and securely integrated into any system as it is. Therefore, measures have to be taken in order to implement this technology securely on a software level. For Certified Wireless USB it implies that nothing further is needed to achieve a secure implementation as the only weakness it displays is against Side Channel attacks, which are so complicated (and require direct access to the system) that we have deemed them unlikely to be attempted.
