Caractérisation de l'état de corrosion des aciers dans le béton par cartographie de potentiel / Characterization of the corrosion of steels in concrete by potential mappingGarcia, Sylvain 20 September 2017 (has links)
La cartographie de potentiel est couramment utilisée afin de détecter les zones de corrosion à risque dans les ouvrages en béton armé. Cette méthode utilise une électrode de référence positionnée à la surface du béton afin de mesurer la différence de potentiel entre un point à la surface du béton et une connexion au réseau d'armatures. Toutefois, il existe deux inconvénients majeurs à cette technique : la connexion au treillis d'armatures qui nécessite d'y avoir accès et la vérification de sa continuité électrique dans la zone de mesure. Dans le but de ne plus être soumis à ces inconvénients, une nouvelle méthode est proposée. Au lieu de se connecter au treillis, une seconde électrode de référence est utilisée, elle aussi positionnée à la surface du béton étudié. Cette configuration de mesure ne donne plus des potentiels électriques, mais des gradients de potentiel entre les deux électrodes de mesure. Par la mise en place de simulations numériques et d'essais expérimentaux, cette configuration de mesure est étudiée. En ce qui concerne le travail expérimental, deux dalles de béton armé de 3x3x0,15m ont été coulées afin d'être proche des conditions rencontrées sur site. Ensuite que des zones corrodées, dont la taille est contrôlée, sont créées de manière accélérée à l'aide d'un dispositif de migration de chlorures. L'épaisseur d'enrobage de la dalle ayant une influence sur les mesures, il a été choisi de couler deux dalles. La première dalle comporte un treillis dont l'épaisseur d'enrobage est constante alors que la seconde dalle possède une épaisseur d'enrobage variable. En ce qui concerne la modélisation, une étude paramétrique utilisant la méthode des éléments finis est réalisée. Cette modélisation permet l'étude de l'influence de nombreux paramètres tels que la résistivité, la taille de la zone corrodée, l'épaisseur d'enrobage, le procédé de mesure, etc. C'est l'analyse des courants d'échange, mais aussi des cartographies de potentiels et de gradients de potentiel qui permettent la corrélation entre les résultats expérimentaux et de simulation. C'est alors qu'il est possible de conclure sur la faisabilité de cette méthode et de ses avantages par comparaison avec la mesure classique. / Half-cell potential mapping is commonly used to detect corrosion risks in reinforced concrete structures. This method uses a reference electrode positioned on the surface of concrete for measuring potential difference by using a voltmeter connected to the reinforcement. However, there are two major drawbacks in the implementation of this method: the necessity to make an electrical connection to the reinforcement and the electrical continuity of this reinforcement. In order to overcome these disadvantages, a new method is proposed. Instead of using electrical connection to rebar, a second reference electrode is used, also positioned on the surface. These two electrodes configuration gives the electrical potential gradient on the concrete surface. By performing both experimental work and numerical modelling this method configuration is tested. For experimental work, two reinforced concrete slabs (3x3x0.15 meter sized) were cast to be close to actual structural conditions. The corroded areas are created with an accelerated method, using the migration of chloride ions. Corrosion size and localisation are controlled during the experiment. The thickness of the concrete cover has an influence on the measures, for this reason in the first slab reinforcement depth is fixed, while it is variable in the second slab. Concerning modelling, a parametric study using a finite element model is performed. This model allows the study of the influence of several parameters such as resistivity, corroded area size, concrete cover and also the measurement process. It is the analysis of the corrosion current, as well as potential mapping that allows the correlation between the experimental and modelling results. Discussion of both results concludes on the feasibility of this method and confirms its benefits compared to the usual half-cell potential mapping.

To Sample, or Not to Sample: That Is the Question : The use of scientific analytical methods on archaeological collections. / Att provta eller icke provta: det är frågan : Användandet av vetenskapliga analysmetoder i arkeologiska samlingar.Maria, Aili Törmä January 2016 (has links)
The thesis explores the complex area between preservation of museum collections, and the need to allow access to the collections and the artefacts for researchers. The focus is on archaeological collections, and inorganic materials in particular. The aim is to illustrate the problems, as well as the opportunities, of archaeological scientific analysis when combined with museological sciences such as materiality and material culture studies, theories of object biographies, the concept of objects as actors, and the issue of silent objects. Exploring the exchange between the museological and the natural sciences to promote enhanced usage of collection artefacts, and to explore whether there are real barriers or if they are perceived due to a lack of mutual understanding. Methodologically it is a text based analysis of the research situation internationally and nationally in Sweden, with a case study comprised of observation of a research team that at the same time were making archaeometallurgical analyses of bronze age objects, and interviews with a small group connected to the areas of interest for this thesis. The sources have consisted of the material generated by the case study, as well as the text material used to provide the necessary background. By using text analysis, Actor-network theory, observation, and interviews, the discussions can revolve around the theoretical perspectives of materiality, object biography and silent objects, with the premise that sample analyses could bring back some context to an artefact. The findings indicate that the museum sector and other disciplines would greatly benefit from closer collaborations with each other and work more interdisciplinary. Museum collections harbour artefacts that could enrich the collective disciplines with their informative values, and with a mass of sampled and analysed context-less artefacts, new and fascinating patterns could emerge, leading to new discoveries. The findings also show that, in archaeology, this is already in motion, and the hope is that this develops on a larger scale in the museum sector as well. / Den här uppsatsen undersöker det snåriga område mellan museers plikt att bevara samlingarna samt behovet att tillåta åtkomst för forskare till samlingarna och föremålen. Fokus ligger på arkeologiska samlingar, och oorganiskt material i synnerhet. Syftet är att belysa problemen, samt de möjligheter som arkeologisk vetenskaplig analys har att ge i kombination med museivetenskapliga begrepp såsom materialitet och materiell kultur, teorier om objektbiografi, objekt som aktörer och ”tysta” föremål. Uppsatsen utforskar utbyten mellan musei- och naturvetenskap som främjar ökad användning av föremål i samlingar, och undersöker om det finns verkliga hinder i utbytet eller om de endast är upplevda på grund av en bristande ömsesidig förståelse. Metodologiskt är det en textbaserad analys av forskningsläget internationellt och nationellt i Sverige, med en fallstudie bestående av observation av en forskargrupp som samtidigt gjorde arkeometallurgiska analyser av bronsåldersföremål, och intervjuer med en liten grupp personer med koppling till intresseområdena för denna uppsats. Källorna består av det material som genererats av fallstudien, samt den litteratur som gett den nödvändiga bakgrunden. Genom att använda textanalys, Actor-network theory, observation och intervjuer, kretsar diskussionerna runt teoretiska perspektiv som materialitet och materiell kultur, objektbiografi och ”tysta” föremål utifrån förutsättningen att analys kan återföra lite av en artefakts kontext. Resultaten visar på att museisektorn och andra discipliner i hög grad skulle tjäna på ett närmare samarbete och att arbeta mer tvärvetenskapligt. Museisamlingar inhyser föremål som skulle kunna berika de samlade disciplinerna med sina informativa värden, och med en mängd provtagningar och analyser av kontextlösa föremål kan nya och fascinerande mönster framträda, vilket i sin tur kan leda till nya upptäckter. Resultaten visar också att detta redan är satt i rörelse inom åtminstone arkeologin, men förhoppningen är att detta även kan ske i större skala inom museisektorn.

A atividade humana tem contribuído com as emissões de gases de efeito estufa (GEE) associadas, principalmente, com queima de combustíveis fósseis e mudanças no uso da terra. Assim, se faz necessário que sejam adotadas medidas visando o retardamento dos efeitos das mudanças climáticas. As florestas exercem papel essencial no balanço de carbono principalmente por funcionarem como sumidouros de CO2. Por outro lado, se desmatadas, promovem emissões e liberam parte do carbono estocado. A quantidade de biomassa florestal e o teor de carbono podem variar em função do tipo florestal, bem como de sua localização. Entretanto, fator importante diz respeito à confiabilidade dos dados mensurados neste tipo de pesquisa. A biomassa e o carbono da parte aérea podem ser determinados via método destrutivo, ou estimados via método não destrutivo. A construção do Rodoanel Mário Covas trecho norte e a supressão de uma área de Mata Atlântica possibilitou a realização de estudo de biomassa da parte aérea via método destrutivo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar o tamanho e forma de parcelas, a intensidade amostral, quantificar a biomassa e o carbono na parte aérea, comparar métodos destrutivos e não destrutivos para a quantificação de biomassa e carbono na parte aérea, estudar a variação da densidade básica da madeira das espécies nas diferentes classes de DAP e grupos sucessionais e comparar as medidas de altura total e DAP obtidas a campo no inventário com as medidas coletadas após o corte. O tamanho mais conveniente de parcela foi 400 m 2, com forma retangular e dimensão de 10 x 40 m. A intensidade amostral variou entre 39 e 75 unidades amostrais. A biomassa da parte aérea obtida, via método destrutivo, foi de 188,3 Mg ha-1 e o carbono, 85,1 Mg ha-1. A biomassa estimada por equações alométricas da literatura foi subestimada, quando comparada ao valor real, obtido via método destrutivo. As menores classes de DAP apresentaram as maiores densidades básicas da madeira. A densidade básica foi 0,488 g cm-3 na média das espécies. A porcentagem de carbono contida nos troncos e galhos não diferiu entre as classes de DAP. O teor de carbono foi 45,41%, na média dos troncos e galhos. Espécies pioneiras acumularam maior quantidade de biomassa e carbono nos galhos e apresentaram maior densidade básica que as não pioneiras. A utilização dos dados coletados na fase de inventário e após o corte não afetaram os valores de biomassa estimados. / Human activity has contributed to the emission of greenhouse gases associated mainly with burning fossil fuels and changes in land use. Thus, it is necessary that measures be adopted to delay the effects of climate change. Forests play an essential role in the carbon balance mainly acting as CO2 sinks. On the other hand, if they are deforested, they will promote emissions and release some of the stocked carbon. The amount of forest biomass and the carbon content may vary depending on the forest type and its location. However, an important factor is about the reliability of the data measured in this type of research. Aboveground biomass and carbon can be determined via destructive method or estimated by non-destructive method. The construction of the north extension of Mário Covas Road and the suppression of an Atlantic forest area made it possible to carry out study of the aboveground biomass via destructive method. The goal of this work was to study the size and shape of plots, the sampling intensity, their aboveground biomass and carbon, compare destructive and non-destructive methods for the quantification of biomass and carbon, study the variation of wood basic density in the species in different classes of diameter of trunk at breast height (DBH) and successional groups and compare the total height and DBH measures obtained on field in the inventory with the measures taken after the cut. The most convenient plot size is 400 m2, with rectangular shape and size of 10 x 40 m. The sampling intensity varied between 39 and 75 sample units. The aboveground biomass obtained, via destructive method, was 188.3 Mg ha-1 and carbon, 85.1 Mg ha-1. The biomass estimated by allometric equations of the literature was underestimated compared to the real value obtained via destructive method. Smaller DBH classes had the highest wood basic density. The basic density was 0.488 g cm-3 in average of the species. The percentage of carbon contained in the trunks and branches did not differ between the DBH classes. The carbon content was 45.41%, in the average of the trunks and branches. Pioneer species accumulated higher amount of biomass and carbon in the branches and had a higher wood basic density than non pioneers species. The utilization of data collected in the inventory phase and after the cut did not affect the estimated biomass values.

Dynamika nadzemní biomasy ostřicového slatiniště / Dynamics of aboveground biomass of a sedge fenHAŠEK, Ladislav January 2015 (has links)
This thesis is part of Project of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic No P504/11/1151, focused on the role of plants in the balance of carbon dioxide and the other greenhouse gases produced in the ecosystem of a sedge fen, which is situated on the study site Wet Meadows near Třeboň. The thesis deals with the growth dynamics of the dominant sedge, Carex acuta. The samples were taken using the method of successive harvests near the automatic meteorological station of Czech Globe, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. During the growing season nine harvests were accomplished on 25.3, 15.4, 6.5, 5.6., 9.7., 5.8., 9.9., 21.10., 25.11.. On each date eight replicates were taken, i.e., a total of 72 samples within the vegetation season. The seasonal dynamic of the above ground biomass was compared between C. acuta and the other plant species on the experimental area. Both live and dead biomass, was harvested and subsequently sorted to single botanic species, dried, weighed and the values were processed using the MS Excel tables. The seasonal maximum of aboveground biomass of all plant species (both live and dead parts) was found on 9.7. (1452,72 g.m-2). Among plant species the highest values of aboveground biomass were attained by Calamagrostis canescens (1257,93 g.m-2) and C. acuta (1163,49 g.m-2). C. acuta displayed the highest density of all shoots on 15.4 (300 m-2),and the highest average weight of one shoot. The maximum length of the longest live shoot of Carex acuta was very consistent among the measurememnts.

This thesis is part of Project of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic No P504/11/1151, focused on the role of plants in the greenhouse gas budget of a sedge fen. The thesis deals with the growth dynamics of the dominant sedge, Carex acuta L., on the study site, Wet Meadows near Třeboň, Czech Republic. The seasonal changes in aboveground biomass were followed using successive harvests during vegetation seasons of 2010 and 2011. The seasonal maximum of aboveground biomass of Carex acuta L. (both live and dead parts) was 321,44 g.m-2 and 357,97 g.m-2 in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The seasonal maximum of total aboveground biomas sof all species was 558,22 g.m-2 and 522,38 g.m-2 in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The seasonal maximum of shoot density was 485 ks.m-2 and 435 ks.m-2 in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

No / Ultrasonic technology provides a powerful and noninvasive method of in-process measurement during injection molding and extrusion. Changes in the velocity, attenuation and reflection coefficients of high frequency sound waves can be related to the state and conditions of the materials through which they propagate. The velocity of an ultrasonic wave changes with density and elastic moduli; this allows information on solidification and material properties to be collected during the molding cycle. The time of flight of the wave is a function of velocity and path length. This paper shows that it can be correlated with the residual wall thickness of polymer in the mold during gas assisted injection molding.

The last part is the static calculation of the selected element for the intended use of the building. At the end, the results of the construction and technical survey are evaluated.
