Governança no terceiro setor : estudo descritivo-exploratório do comportamento de conselhos curadores de fundações empresariais no Brasil / Governance in organizations in the third sector :a descriptive - exploratory study about corporate foundations board\'s behavior in Brazil

Luciano Sathler Rosa Guimarães 23 April 2008 (has links)
Governance in organizations in the Third Sector is one of the areas in which the theme of governance shows itself to be essential for organizational studies. Social Media Marketing Strategies in Nonprofit Professional Membership Organizations

Gordon, Avis 01 January 2017 (has links)
The use of social media in nonprofit professional membership organizations affects how leaders communicate with members, consumers, the community, and other stakeholders. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the social media marketing strategies that leaders in nonprofit professional membership organizations use to keep their organizations sustainable. Data were collected from 5 social media marketing leaders representing 5 nonprofit professional membership organizations in the Chicago region. Data collection occurred through semistructured interviews, review of organizational documents pertaining to social media marketing strategies, and review of the social media sites and websites of the participants' organizations. Rogers's diffusion of innovation theory served as the conceptual framework for this study. A thematic analysis of the data yielded 4 themes: social media platforms and engagement strategies, social media content, social media challenges, and brand awareness. Leaders of nonprofit professional membership organizations who want to gain a competitive edge by using the appropriate social media platforms, creating quality content, overcoming challenges, and increasing brand awareness might choose to align with the strategies identified in this study. The findings of this study could help organizational leaders use social media marketing strategies effectively for engagement and organizational sustainability. The implications for positive social change arising from the use of social media by leaders in nonprofit professional membership organizations include opportunities to connect with and engage the public to build stronger communities through collaboration.

Philanthropy, policy, and politics : power and influence of health care nonprofit interest groups on the implementation of health care policy

Qaddoura, Fady A. 29 March 2018 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / Nonprofit organizations that “speak for, act for, and look after the interests of their constituents when they interact with government are, by any definition of political science, interest groups.” Indiana’s recent implementation of the Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0 (HIP 2.0) under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) opened a window of opportunity to closely examine the role of nonprofits in shaping the implementation of health care policy. Existing literature on health and human service nonprofit organizations did not examine in depth the role and influence of nonprofits as interest groups in the implementation of public policy. This study examines a deeper research question that was not given adequate attention under existing studies with a special focus on the health care policy field: whose interest do nonprofit organizations advance when they attempt to influence the implementation of public policy? To answer this question, it is critical to understand why nonprofits engage in the public policy process (motivation and values), the policy actions that nonprofits make during the implementation of the policy (how?), and the method by which nonprofits address or mitigate conflicts and contradictions between organizational interest and constituents’ interest (whose interest do they advance?). The main contribution of this study is that it sheds light on the implementation of the largest extension of domestic social welfare policy since the “War on Poverty” using Robert Alford’s theory of interest groups to examine the role of nonprofit organizations during the implementation of HIP 2.0 in Indiana. Given the complexity of the policy process, this study utilizes a qualitative methods approach to complement existing quantitative findings. Finally, this study provides a deeper examination of the relationships between nonprofits as actors within a policy field, accounts for the complexity of the policy and political environment, analyzes whether or not dominant interest groups truly advance the interest of their constituents, and provides additional insights into how nonprofits mitigate and prioritize competing interests.

Federal and Local Acceptance of Refugees: The Dual Structures Promoting Community Inclusion

Garrett, Benjamin Troy 11 July 2019 (has links)
This thesis asks the question: what roles do local governments and nongovernmental organizations play in resettling refugees in U.S. cities? To answer this question, I conducted a case study of the refugee resettlement structure and process as it occurs in the city of Roanoke, Virginia. I find that two governance structures dictate how refugees are resettled into the city. The first stems from federal refugee policy, which establishes the use of a public-private partnership between federal and state governments and federated civic organizations. The second is an evolving local-level grassroots organizational structure that assesses the needs of refugees in Roanoke following their initial resettlement. In the case study on Roanoke I examine the support roles and practices of government institutions and nongovernmental organizations during the initial refugee resettlement period. Additionally, I examine aspects of long-term service provision and additional supports that move refugees towards social and economic inclusion. I conducted interviews with government and non-governmental leaders to grasp their understandings of existing practices and norms of local-level refugee resettlement. I also examined local survey data, economic and demographic data, media reports, and other public documents prepared by government agencies and nonprofit organizations. I identify who offers, or influences decisions about, specific supports for refugees at different times throughout the resettlement/integration process. I will suggest further implications of the supports provided for how they structure the pattern of refugees' economic and social inclusion. This thesis is designed to contribute to the limited literature on the process of local-level refugee resettlement in U.S. cities. / Master of Arts / This thesis asks the question: How are refugees resettled by government agencies and private organizations at the local level? To answer this question, I examine how the U.S. preference of public-private partnerships to initially resettle refugees in U.S. cities produces a hierarchical structure that flows from federal policies and agency oversight to state and local level policies and practices. This structure exhibits a quasi-governance phenomenon in which both public and private actors make discretionary decisions on policy implementation throughout the resettlement process. I find also that besides the initial federal structure, a second local network structure forms among grassroots organizations that work to extend federal objectives and address service gaps in the formal resettlement structure. These unaddressed gaps primarily concern longer-term supports to promote refugees being socially and economically included in their communities. I performed a qualitative case study analysis of local refugee resettlement as it occurs in the City of Roanoke, Virginia. I conducted interviews with resettlement stakeholders among government agencies and private organizations in order to grasp their understandings of local-level refugee resettlement service provision. I also examined local survey data, economic and demographic data, media reports, and other public documents prepared by government agencies and nonprofit organizations. This thesis is designed to contribute to the limited literature on local-level refugee resettlement and the use of public-private partnerships for the provision of social services in the U.S.

Nonprofit organizations on Facebook : A comparative corpus-based analysis of UNICEF and WWF's communication strategies on Facebook

Hallsten, Louise January 2019 (has links)
UNICEF and WWF are leading nonprofit organizations in their field. They work globally with different projects and programs, trying to make a change for the better. This study examines and discusses the communication strategies used by nonprofit organizations in their Facebook posts by answering following questions: What communication strategies can be identified in UNICEF and WWF's Facebook posts in their aim to attract followers? Are there any linguistic patterns associated with those strategies? Are there any differences/similarities between the two organizations? The method used is based on corpus linguistics and discourse analysis, categorizing messages into the categories Information, Community and Action. The results show that both organizations mainly produce messages that are information based. They use less of the Community building and Action strategies. Some linguistic patterns were found to be associated with these strategies. These patterns were mostly connected to the communication strategy of Information.

From Clients to Caseworkers: Women of Color in the Nonprofit Sector

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: ABSTRACT As a graduate student earning both a Master of Arts in Social Justice and Human Rights and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership Management, I have tried to bridge the theoretical and the empirical in a meaningful way. A problematic chasm between the nonprofit professional and the client being served existed, and I wanted to research this chasm. I wanted to understand what challenges a woman of color faced if she was both a client and a nonprofit professional, possessing dual identities and engaging in a sort of welfare system border crossing. There was a gap in the academic research on women in the nonprofit sector, more specifically the charitable, human services sector, and there was little to no research on women who have been both clients and caseworkers. Therefore, I conducted a series five of in-depth, semi-structured interviews with women of color working at a local food bank. As an employee of the food bank, I recorded my own observations and field notes in order to write a feminist institutional ethnography. I employed interpretive, less conventional design methods, which were aligned with my commitment to social justice. The research highlighted many negative stories about oppression and exclusion women faced in the nonprofit sector. It also confronted the problematic stereotype welfare recipients, specifically women of color, are faced with as a result of the politics of disgust and dominant myth of the Welfare Queen. The research sought to explain how and why women of color transition in and out of the welfare state, and how they manage to work within a food bank, where they are constantly surrounded by inequalities. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Social Justice and Human Rights 2015

Strategisk kommunikation i ideella organisationer : En retorisk analys av hur Världsnaturfonden WWF kommunicerar förtroende i olika kommunikationskanaler / Strategic communication in non-profit organizations : A rhetorical analysis how Världsnaturfonden WWF communicates trust in various communication channels

Adolfsson, Linda, Nilsson, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
This study has aimed to examine how Världsnaturfonden WWF communicates trust in various communication channels. We also wanted to see if there are any differences in the different channels on how WWF communicates trust. It is a qualitative study that uses critical rhetoric analysis as method. We choose to analyze the communication channels sponsored facebookposts, personalized letters and two sites from WWF:s website. The empirical data has been analyzed with the aid of theories of strategic communication, non-profit organizations, rhetoric and media specificity. The results show that WWF uses various communication strategies to communicate trust in all of the examined channels. The most important aspects of trust is communicated through presenting what WWF:s collected money has contributed to, that the organization appears to be knowledgeable and engaged in the various areas they work for. In all of the channels we have examined, we have also seen that WWF uses a personal address to the reader. In the sponsored facebookposts and in the personalized letters, we find that WWF communicates more trust than on the website by using more emotions. WWF express more gratitude for donors and more concern for the various animals and the environment affected. Other differences we have seen between the channels are that they differ in how they are designed, but these differences are mainly due to different norms relating to the specific channels. This study has contributed with knowledge of how a non-profit organization such as WWF rhetorically communicates trust to different target groups through different communication channels. This study has also contributed to knowledge of the differences and similarities regarding how WWF communicates trust through the three different communication channels.

Analýza neziskových organizací v oblasti zahraniční rozvojové pomoci v České republice 1989-2013 / ANALYSIS OF NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN THE FIELD OF INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE IN CZECH REPUBLIC 1989-2013

Vránová, Gabriela January 2013 (has links)
The thesis analyzes the role of NGOs in the field of international development assistance, mainly analyzes the structure of funding and links with the expenditures of the state budget. Total expenditures on official development assistance are set into the structure of the state budget, revenues are quantified in selected non-profit organizations and their structure is outlined. The thesis also covers legislative changes introduced by the new Civil Code. There are used analytical, comparative and descriptive methods by which the author comes to the conclusion that the form of projects implemented by non-profit organizations can be influenced by the Concept of development assistance and subsidies which can be obtained from the state.

Search Engine Marketing neziskových organizací / Search Engine Marketing of Nonprofit Organizations

Slavík, Michal January 2010 (has links)
The goal of this thesis is to design methodics for Search Engine Marketing (SEM) in nonprofit organizations (NPOs) which takes advantage of their specifics. Other goals include practical evaluation of the methodics and analysis of the current state of NPOs websites. Determined goals are reached by merging theoretical background from relevant literature with the knowledge gained during field research and with author's experience. Designed methodics is built on the following hypotheses: NPOs are able to negotiate better trade terms than trading companies, NPOs can delegate their volunteers to do some SEM activities. Field research confirmed both hypotheses. Hypothesis that NPOs websites are static because NPOs see no profit in regular publishing was disproved. The methodics consists of four phases and also includes recommended tools, metrics, topics for publishing and a list of linkbaiting activities. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter summarizes the necessary theoretical background, while the second chapter defines terms and premises. The main methodics can be found in chapter three. The fourth chapter contains current state analysis based on examination of 31 websites. A comparison of the methodics' hypotheses and activities against the experience of 21 NPOs representatives and 3 experts in the field of SEO is given in the last chapter. Opinions of the both groups of respondents are compared too. Based on the respondents' judgments on costs and utility of the methodics' activities a rank of these activities is finally created. The main contribution of this thesis is a conversion of the universal SEM theory into the specific conditions and language of NPOs practitioners and an analysis of the current state in this field.
