The present study aimed to analyze the dental assistance/attention given to an adult worker population, searching for relevant epidemiological indexes of oral health in this specific population. This study involved 240 workers, aged 35 to 44, randomly divided into 4 groups, with 60 workers in each group. Group I - self management dental assistance. Group II - dental assistance financed by employer. Group III - dental assistance financed by worker. Group IV - no dental assistance available. The oral clinical exams were done by a single examiner, previously calibrated, following the WHO guidelines. The mean DMFT found for this sample was 25.47 (sd 3.59), with no significant difference among all groups (p>0.05). However, for all groups the loss component (dental loss) represented more than 50% of the index composition. In relation to periodontal condition (CPI), individuals belonging to Group I presented more healthy sextants when compared to others (p<0.001). While evaluating excluded sextants there were no significant differences among the four groups (p>0.05). Regarding edentulous, GI presented the highest mean for the need of prosthesis usage, either superior or inferior. Based on the epidemiological aspects it was found relevant the implantation and/or restructure of the attention services in oral health of the adult workers population studied, seeking for the increase of life quality of these workers as their work capacity. It must be observed that the simple offering of dental assistance services does not bring benefits in terms of health to the worker; it is necessary a correct planning of actions to be developed, which may be connected to other health attention programs to workers.

Crescent changes in the production process have modified substantially the feature of the employ and its employees, their determinants about health and disease, its epidemiological picture, as well as the health services destined to the employee. In this context, we sought to verify the existence of oral health attendance program for employees of private industries at Araçatuba and Birigui County (SP), by analyzing the organizational clinical structure, also their assistance practices developed by themselves. For this, 48 industries were selected, through a randomized stratified sample, from which one refused to participate to this study; the information was collected by means of self-applied questionnaires. With regard to the services of dental assistance, 16 (34.04%) of those 47 industries presented this kind of service, and this feature was positively correlated to the structure size of the industry. The main activities of these services were urgency and emergency attendance, and surgical-restorative activities, with little emphasis in the prevention. The availability of dental assistance services in the industries destined to the employees seems to be an interest of their employers, rather than the interests of the employees themselves.

Albuquerque, Marilia Sper de 08 July 2009 (has links)
Orientador: Silvia Maria Santiago / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciencias Medicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-14T09:17:13Z (GMT). / Abstract: There are several works about the care related to the medical professional, regarding the sickness risk that can happen due their practice. However, still few services exist with regular practices that offer to these professionals opportunities to reflect, share and growth in the difficult task of taking care in health environment, besides that, there is still little investment in the elaboration of projects regarding the health care professionals. The work in oncology makes the doctor be in intense contact with subjective subjects as pain, suffering, life and death. There are studies that show the existence of anguish feelings, tensions, impotence and onipotence by the doctor when working with limitations of their own disease, relationship with the patient and their relatives and with the fact of not solving many subjects regarding cancer, a serious disease that is related to the human finiteness. This work had the objective to know which psychological aspects are present in the doctor who takes care of patients with cancer, and also to identify which personal and institutional strategies are used to support them, starting from that professional's perspective. The methodology used was a qualitative research. Interviews were accomplished with doctors who take care of oncology patients in the General Hospital of Unicamp. The results were analyzed from the thematic content analysis, using theoretical references of the psychoanalysis and the Public Health. The study intended to contribute with the Collective Health by investigating the needs of those medical workers and it can rise new subjects for projects that can help the health care workers who work for the public health system in Brazil (called Unique System of Health), reflecting in a more extended and full oncology care. / Mestrado / Saude Coletiva / Mestre em Saude Coletiva

Voorligting ten opsigte van gehoorbeskerming by 'n kragstasie

Calitz, Magrietha Johhanna Wilhelmina Elizabeth 10 September 2014 (has links)
M.Cur. / We are living in a century of industialization, with noise as the more general of the polutents. Because Eskom workers are subjected to this risk factor, it was decided to institute and implement a hearing conservation programme. Literature concerning noise and hearing conservation was researched with the view to suggestions as a basis for a successful hearing conservation programme. A programme was compiled and included in research of the relevance concerning the knowledge and attitude towards the active use of hearing protection. For the purpose of this research a true experimental design, with a pre-test and post test in the form of a standardised questionnaire, wa~ used. The hearing conservation programme was implemented and controlled by an occupational health nurse in conjunction with other competents on the subject. On completion of the presentation and analysis of the questionnaires, certain findings were noted and used as guidelines to specific recommendations.

Employee wellness programmes and the HIV/AIDS related needs of lowest strata employees: Nissan, Rosslyn

Maleka, Molefe Jonathan 05 June 2008 (has links)
This research project looks at the perceptions of an Employees Wellness Programme (EWP), at Nissan South Africa (NSA) as expressed by lowest strata employees. In this study lowest strata employees are black males who receive, bin, pick or dispatch parts at the Parts or Accessories (P&A) warehouse. The literature reviewed suggests that a good EWP should offer the following: HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, condom usage and distribution, Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) and free HIV/AIDS treatment. This qualitative case study shows that lowest strata employees perceive the NSA’s EWP to be an effective programme. This is supported by findings that show the respondents are aware of HIV transmission and prevention measures. However, there is room for improvement in the areas of VCT and HIV/AIDS treatment. The challenge for the workplace is implementation of an EWP because participation in the programme is voluntary. This qualitative case study offers recommendations, which might assist NSA’s EWP to more effectively address the HIV/AIDS-related needs of lowest strata employees. These recommendations are as follows: the VCT programme and education on antiretroviral drugs should be conducted at shorter intervals, partnerships should be formed with local traditional healers and non-profit organisations that are working on HIV/AIDS projects. Also, since this study has focused on one strata of employees, further research is suggested on skilled workers, who in NSA, are mostly white males. Lastly, similar studies could be conducted in workplaces across the motor industry and the manufacturing sector at large. / Professor Anton Senekal Mrs Bronwyn Dworzanowski

Occupational hazard exposure amongst health workers at Letaba Hospital, Mopani District, Limpopo Province

Nyambi, C. January 2021 (has links)
Thesis (MPH.) -- University of Limpopo, 2021 / Background Health care facilities are characterised by a high level of exposure to hazardous agents, which significantly endanger the health and life of workers. Occupational hazards, exposure to blood and body fluids accidents and safety precautions constitute an important public health issue. Occupational health is the identification and control of risks arising from physical, chemical, and other workplace hazards in order to establish and maintain a safe and healthy working environment. The high occurrence and burden of occupational hazards in hospitals include sharps/needlestick injuries, contact with blood and body fluids, blood-borne infections, and accidents. Health workers at Letaba Hospital are facing occupational health and safety risk at their workplace. Objectives The objectives of the study were to identify the type of work and related hazards that health workers are exposed to at Letaba Hospital and to find out if health workers at Letaba Hospital are aware of the occupational hazards at the workplace. Methods A quantitative descriptive cross-sectional method was used. The population comprised 649 nurses, doctors, cleaners, kitchen workers, laboratory technicians and laboratory technologists employed at Letaba Hospital. Stratified random sampling was used to select 374 health workers who participated in the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Results The study showed that health works, particularly nurses and doctors and nurses are exposed to needle pricks and kitchen workers are exposed to sharps. Cleaners and porters are exposed to slippery floors as well as uneven floors. Laboratory technicians, laboratory technologists and porters are exposed to specimen containers. Health vi workers lack knowledge on the toxic gases available at the hospital. The study also revealed that health workers are aware of the risk of using uneven floors and the risk of using stairs/steps at their workplace. Conclusion The study concluded that health workers at Letaba Hospital experienced physical, biological, chemical as well as psychosocial hazards at their workplace. Keywords Occupational hazards, health workers and occupational health.
