From August 2022 to May 2023, I participated in a student production of Cavalli’s La Calisto, and my part in the production was the role of Diana. This thesis investigates the specific challenges of the role, and in consequence how I resolved those challenges.  I started by interviewing four active or retired professional opera singers regarding their experience and their technique for studying a role. After this I conducted a literature search regarding Baroque opera, relevant research on practice and memorization, and already existing material mostly found in various blogs of professionals in the field of opera.  The main section of the thesis deals with the specific challenges I encountered when learning the role of Diana, and how I resolved those challenges. When relevant I have attempted to connect my solutions to the information gathered during the initial phase of the thesis work.

This detailed report of a registration internship at the New Orleans Opera Association includes an organizational profile, a description of the activities performed during the internship, an analysis of an organization, recommendations for improvement, and a discussion of the short and long term effects of the internship.

This report is based on a three month internship at the New Orleans Opera Association during the summer of 1996. In this report, the intern has attempted to present the Opera's past practices while comparing them to its current ideologies and projecting where the company is headed in the future. She has highlighted the Opera's strengths and objectively analyzed the areas of concern. At the same time she has emphasized the fact that the New Orleans Opera Association is and will remain an extremely successful opera company with loyal and generous supporters. The Association shows every promise of continuing to provide New Orleans and the Gulf South region with first class opera performances by hiring some of the finest voices in the opera world and staging theatrical extravaganzas that will entertain and delight audiences well into the 21st century.

This report is a description of a three-month internship from January 20, 1992 through April 20, 1992 with the New Orleans Opera Association where the intern was the assistant to the Director of Development/Marketing/Public Relations. The New Orleans Opera celebrates 50 years of financial and artistic success in the 1992/93 season and serves as an example to other arts organizations not only in New Orleans but throughout the United States. Over this fifty-year life, however, the organization has not adjusted its managerial practices sufficiently to compensate for the change throughout the business and arts-related industries; consequently, the Association operates with outdated thoughts and customs. Within the scheme of operations, however, is a very successful fundraising organization buttressed by the support of extremely loyal patrons and sold-out houses. The intern will give an overview of the organization and explain her duties and responsibilities with short and long-term effects on the Association.

The following report documents the internship performed by Michael Indest, Jr. at the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York City. Since 1935, the Metropolitan Opera Guild has supported the Metropolitan Opera Association as a separate nonprofit organization in order to ensure the continuing survival of this esteemed opera company. The Guild operates from its office buildings in the Rose Building at 70 Lincoln Center Plaza, in New York City. During his time at the Rose Building, Mr. Indest worked closely with the Development and Education Departments, and was responsible for writing instructional study guides and grant appropriate materials for those departments. This report catalogues the duties performed by Mr. Indest and the scope of his contribution. It discusses issues encountered during that process, and also provides a SWOT analysis of the organization. The report examines the best practices performed by similar organizations and provides practical recommendations to foster increased effectiveness within the Guild. Finally, the report discusses Mr. Indest's contributions as an intern and their short and long-term effects. It should also be noted that Mr. Indest's experience was solely with the Guild, and the statements and analysis included in this report do not in any way reflect the practices of the Metropolitan Opera Association.
