Vliv velikosti rámce na dělicí poměr v pasivních optických sítích XG-PON / Influence of the frame size on splitting ratio in the passive optical networks XG-PONKočí, Lukáš January 2015 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the theoretical definition of passive optical networks, furthermore the description of methods of channel bundling in passive optical networks and the coexistence and migration between standards. The main essence of this work is the XG-PON (10-Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) standard. This standard is generally defined along with a description of the physical layer. The transport layer is detailed analysis. There is a description of conditions, under which the Optical Network Unit pass through, when is activated. Additionally, this diploma thesis focuses on the processes of connecting Optical Network Units to the Passive Optical Networks and the timing relationships between Optical Network Units and Optical Line Terminal. The simulations demonstrate that as the number of simultaneous connections to Optical Network Unit increase, longer wait time for each additional connection becomes. This also solves the collision conditions, that might arise in communication and the equalization delay. Finally, the diploma thesis deals with the influence of a refractive index on timing relationships.

Zajištění datové komunikace digitálních ochran a terminálů do monitorovacího systému jaderné elektrárny Dukovany / Design of The Data Communication Between Digital Protection Relays and Monitoring System of Dukovany Nuclear Power PlantŠula, Vladimír January 2015 (has links)
This thesis describes the provision of the data communication of the new protection relays via 6 kV switch gears to the electro monitoring system at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. These protection relays will replace the current analog protection. The replacement process will start in 2015 and will finish in 2018. Given the overall complexity of the project, this thesis deals only with the following 6 kV switch gears 9BB and 9BD. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part concerns the actual consumption and output of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. The following chapters describe the electro monitoring system and GRAF and LOGA software programs that are closely connected with it and that were used in the practical part. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the actual replacement of the protection relays of the 6 kV switch gears. Also, it describes a new optical network, which will be set up at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station as a part of the process of replacement. The segment of the practical part concerns laboratory verification of the data communication of the new protection relays. Next, it describes actions that had to be taken in order to ensure and verify correct functionality of the data communication. This part is followed up by a closely related practical activity, which describes examination and verification of the protection functions of each of the 9BB and 9BD switch gears protection relays.

Theoretical Investigation of a new OFDM Access-Network Topology (OTONES)Kakkar, Aditya January 2013 (has links)
Recent studies on growth of telecomm sector depict an ever rising demand for high bandwidth applications such as on-line gaming, high definition television and many more. This demand is coupled with increase in internet connected utilities per house hold - each requiring a portion of bandwidth. The fast development of broadband telecommunication services calls for an upgrade of access infrastructure. This challenge could be met by technologies such as Fiber-To-The-Home/Building (FTTH/B) point-to-multipoint (P2MP) optical access networking. Further, FTTH is also widely regarded as a future proof solution for broadband telecommunication services within scientific and industrial sectors. This has encouraged large amount of research and development throughout the globe to find optimal topologies for FTTH. OFDM based optical access network topology abbreviated as OTONES is an ongoing EU FP 7 project under the PIANO+ framework. The OTONES project addresses the next generation optical access networking on the basis of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Orthogonal Frequency Multiple Access (OFDMA), with special provision for reduced complexity and signal processing aspects of the subscriber side terminals (ONUs). This thesis focuses on the theoretical investigation of OFDM based optical access network topology OTONES. The thesis provides an in depth view of the salient aspects of the topology and formulates the key requirements of OTONES topology. The investigation primarily delves on two important aspects of the topology. First, finding the optimal analog circuitry for the optical network unit (ONU). Second, finding the optimal operation regime for the topology and hence optimizing the system level concept. In this thesis, we show that the requirement of an analog circuitry originates from the need of successive up-conversions in OTONES topology which also produces image spectrum. This image spectrum causes a 3 dB loss in power and spectral efficiency in absence of a proper image rejection circuitry. Thus, we discuss the generic SSB generation methods for efficient image rejection. Novel Bedrosian method based on Bedrosian Theorem is established as a promising method for image rejection. We show that this method is an analog implementation of Hilbert Transform Method and does not involve any approximation. Both generic methods for SSB along with the Novel Bedrosian method are evaluated based on the criterion established for OTONES topology. Finally, optical filtering from the set of generic SSB method is proposed for the downstream path and Novel Bedrosian method is proposed for the upstream path. The tolerance limits for Novel Bedrosian method, are also established for its physical implementation. We further discuss the realistic implementation of various components of the OTONES topology. We also establish the optimal operation regime of the full concurrent topology based on parameters such as input optical power, pilot tone separation and many more. Finally as a key feature of the thesis, we optimize the system level concept of the topology with the use of the proposed Novel Bedrosian Method as the optimal analog circuitry for OTONES topology and provide a region of optimal operation of the topology.

Cisco forecast claims that by 2020, transport traffic will be 13 times of today's traffic transmission. This incremental traffic demand makes concerns about energy consumption and network scalability as well as increasing the network complexity. In this respect, to adresse the future traffic demand requirement and provide a reliable telecommunication network, precise network planning and engineering are needed. To this aim, we adress the problem of ROADM node design by presenting different architectures, components and subsystems to investigate the Broadcast and Select and Route and Select ROADM node architectures. Colored/colorless, directional/directionless and contentional/contentionless add/drop module configurations are studied. Futhermore, the problem of Intra Node Blocking is investigated by developing a node simulator in a dynamic network traffic platform. In this respect, we propose an offline contention management strategy for an ROADMnode in order to efficiently decrease the Intra Node blocking ration by more than 1.5 order of magnitude. Finally, we focus on network planning by investigating short and medium term network upgrades for metro-core optical network. To this goal, we investigate the possibility of non coherent signal transmission in metro-core segment of hierarchical layered optical network. Quality of transmission for 100 Gbit/s PDM-DQPSK-modulation format is investigated. Then, we propose the implementation of PDM-CS-DQPSK modulation format to transmit 100 Gbit/s signals in ROADM based optical transmission systems

Study of Passive Optical Network (PON) System and DevicesGuo, Qingyi 04 1900 (has links)

The fiber-to-the-x (FTTX) has been widely investigated as a leading access technology to meet the ever growing demand for bandwidth in the last mile. The passive optical network (PON) provides a cost-effective and durable solution. In this thesis, we investigate different aspects of the PON, in the search for cost-effective and high-performance designs of link system and devices.

In Chapter 2, we propose a novel upstream link scheme for optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OOFDM)-PON. The colorless laser diodes are used at the optical network units (ONUs), and the overlapped channel spectrum of orthogonal subcarrier multiplexing provides high spectral efficiency. At the optical line terminal (OLT), optical switch and all optical fast Fourier transform (OFFT) are adopted for high speed demultiplexing. The deterioration caused by the laser perturbation is also investigated.

In Chapter 3, we design a novel polarization beam splitter (PBS), which is one of the most important components in polarization-controlled optical systems, e.g. the next-generation PON utilizing polarization multiplexing. Our PBS is built on a slab waveguide platform where the light is vertically confined. Planar lenses are formed to collimate and refocus light beam by converting the phase front of the beam. A planar subwavelength grating of a wedge shape induces the form birefringence, where the transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) waves have different effective refractive indices, and are steered to distinct directions. This design provides low insertion loss (< 0.9 dB) and low crosstalk (< -30 dB) for a bandwidth of 100 nm in a compact size, and can be realized by different material systems for easy fabrication and/or monolithic integration with other optical components.

In Chapter 4, we study the mode partition noise (MPN) characteristics of the Fabry-Perot (FP) laser diode using the time-domain simulation of noise-driven multi-mode laser rate equation. FP laser is cheaper than the widely used distributed feedback (DFB) laser diode in PON, but its MPN is the major limiting factor in an optical transmission system. We calculate the probability density functions for each longitudinal mode. We also investigate the k-factor, which is a simple yet important measure of MPN. The sources of the k-factor are studied with simulation, including the intrinsic source of the laser Langevin noise, and the extrinsic source of the bit pattern.
/ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The advent of new services offered to end users, such as the so called triple play, which consists in the simultaneous traffic of voice, video, and data through the same communication infrastructure, has been pushing telecom operators towards providing adequate bandwidth as well as quality of service. This has brought the spotlight to passive optical networks (PONs) by virtue of their considerably higher bandwidth at relatively low cost. In PONs, certain fiber optic spans can be shared among different users as long as multiple access control techniques are used. One such technique is the optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) technique, which, in addition, presents improved data security and flexible capacity on demand. The performance of this technology is basically limited by multi access interference (MAI), which becomes more severe as the number of simultaneous users increases. In the present work, OCDMA-PON scenarios utilizing one- and two-dimensional optical codes separately such as modified prime codes (MPC) and multi-wavelength optical orthogonal codes (MWOOC), are described and thoroughly investigated. The performances of these systems are investigated based on the following modulation schemes: 1) On-off keying (OOK), where a new formalism for the double-padded MPC is proposed, 2) Pulse position modulation (PPM), and 3) Frequency shift keying (FSK) together with MAI mitigation technique based on parallel interference cancelation (PIC). Besides these schemes, it is also included for the first time in these formalisms forward error correction techniques (FEC) based on the Reed-Solomon (RS) algorithm. The figure of merit adopted in all simulations is the bit error rate (BER). The results obtained for the cases investigated in this work indicate that the combination PIC/FEC must be considered if one is interested in obtaining BER levels compatible with the error-free region (BER < \'10 POT.-12\') for the current and future access network scenarios (aiming at attending 32 or 64 simultaneous users).

Estratégias para aumento da eficiência espectral e energética em redes TWDM-PON / Strategies to increase spectral and energetic efficiency in TWDM-PON networksDourado, Diego Marques 15 July 2016 (has links)
The problem studied is related to the planning of optical access networks TWDM (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing), aiming to provide means to meet the increasing bandwidth consumption and, at the same time, associating it to the lowest possible power consumption and providing quality services to the network users. In this context, following the presentation of a literature review, some studies were selected as a reference basis for the study. In this, some wavelength management techniques were analyzed aiming a possible technological migration of the network access equipment at the user side, the optical network units (ONU), whereas it is possible to use efficiently the ONUs distribution in each pair of wavelength. As a result, it becomes possible to switch off some management interfaces thus assuring a degree of power consumption save. In parallel, methods for providing an \"adaptive record\" of ONUs have been aggregated to improve the performance of those ONUs that are migrating and/or entering the network, avoiding collisions between their signals and increasing the chance of their registration in the optical line terminal (OLT). Furthermore, this work deals with the fulfillment of the service agreement (SLA) signed by telecommunications operators and proposes ways to design a passive optical network (PON) in order to offer services with quality metrics assurance (QoS). Different scenarios were treated to vary the percentage of active users on the network, and it was noticed that when the PON operates with low rate of activity (average 10% of active ONUs), it was possible to save over 80% energy in the management interfaces. Moreover, by involving more realistic scenarios in optical networks (50%, in average, of active ONUs), the TWDM-PON saved almost 50% of energy at the interfaces to be configured with low migration period (5 minutes). Additionally, it reached an SLA of approximately 100%, a value considered above the usual when it comes to compliance services. As an emerging technology, TWDM-PON stands out in a scenario that should be designed to be compatible with deployed technologies, and beyond that, to overcome the legacy of PON networks in energy saving and quality of services offered.

Previous issue date: 2009-02-09 / This work presents an experimental investigation on the implementation of wireless sensor networks (IEEE 802.15.4) over fiber optics. Such investigation was performed with the utilization of IEEE 802.15.4 transceivers, an optical fiber infrastructure inside a field-trial network, called KyaTera Network, and directly modulated lasers and photodiodes designed for usual lab applications. The analysis comprised optical and electrical signal-to-noise ratio meausermentes and packet error rate evaluation under different conditions of transmission (e.g., payload length and time between consecutive frames). Results indicate that the RF signals of the sensor network may be properly propagated through unamplified optical links of up to 100 km or for longer distances with the use of optical amplifiers.
