Previous issue date: 2011-11-28 / Cities are constantly upgrading themselves, going through various processes duo to an increasingly fast urbanization, and this can cause a lack of harmony between man and vegetation. The lack of vegetation in cities has led to an increase of the gardening market, with influence on issues such as esthetics, environment, and the psychological conditions of people affected by day-to-day stress. Because of this situation, a gardening project was designed for the road cloverleaf of Poço Fundo, MG. To carry out the project, plant species were surveyed wich might be adequate to the region, regarding climate, soil, and specific characteristics of each plant. After such an evaluation, the following plants were chosen for the city cloverleaf: dragon-tree agave (Agave atenuata), purpleheart (Tradescantia pallida), emerald grass (Zoysia japonica), yellow lilly (Hemerocallis flava), imperial palm tree (Roystonea oleracea), jerivá palm tree (Syagrus romanzoffiana), parakeet flower (Althernanthera ficoidea), pita (Agave americana), Agave angustifolia, and sage-of-gardens (Salvia coccinea). These plants were chosen for being resistant to external factors, for not disturbing the visibility of drivers and preserving the safety of those driving by, and for being inexpensive. Before and after the development of the project, the inhabitants and visitors of the city were asked to give their opinion about it by answering a questionnaire. Upon completion of the project, people realized that the new cloverleaf landscaping became the show window of the city, bringing visual, environmental and economical benefits to Poço Fundo, attracting tourists and even customers to the sugar-cane juice business located there.

Previous issue date: 2017-09-22 / One of the segments of Brazilian agribusiness that has grown the most in recent years was the market for flowers and ornamental plants. With the objective of elaborating a web information system, which maintains a database with information from the producers, allowing the updating of the data of the same when it is necessary, the software has been developed PeqsuisAgro, using web technologies PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the Laravel framework in conjunction with the MySQL database. Among the various functionalities are the registration and management of searches with multiple-choice questionnaires, which may be included by researchers or administrators of the software. After registering, it is possible to publish, through an internet link, the research among the producers so that they can respond. PesquisAgro proves to be an important tool for research creation and use with questionnaires between producers, since it allows the researcher to update the data of a research more quickly and with a frequency greater to the detriment of a research done in loco. Diamanttetras utforskande beteende och stimformation i artificiell miljö : En jämförelse mellan odlade och vildfångade diamanttetror / Explorative behavior of diamond tetra and their shoal formation in artificial environment : A comparison between farmed and wild-captured diamond tetraMelkerson, Sandra January 2020 (has links)
The behaviour of ornamental fish is not well studied. To meet the needs of ornamental fish hobbyists, we need to know more about the behavior of fish in artificial environments. The aim of this study is to compare the explorative behaviour of wild-captured and farmed fish in a common ornamental fish, the diamond tetra. The hypothesis is that there is a difference between the two groups behavior where the wild-captured tetras are bolder. Groups of five individuals of farmed respectively wild-captured diamond tetra were released in a new artificial environment where they were monitored for 20 minutes. The test was repeated 10 times with new individuals, and the time it took for them to leave the bottom of the aquarium was measured as well as the size of the shoal. I found a difference in the time it took for the individuals to leave the bottom, with the wild-captured tetras leaving the bottom earlier than the farmed fish. There were no differences in height or length of the shoal. Thus, the wild diamond tetra were bolder than the farmed tetras. The study gave information about the differences in behavior between wild-captured and farmed diamond tetra and can give information to further studies about ornamental fish.

Understanding consumers' ornamental plant preferences for disease-free and water conservation labelsHartter, David L. 27 August 2012 (has links)
Product labeling is increasingly used as a tool to differentiate products with public and private benefits that cannot be readily evaluated by a consumer at the time of purchase. Our research investigates how a labeling program may be applied in the sale of ornamental plants to address two key issues; plant disease and irrigation water use. A choice modeling survey was utilized to estimate consumers' willingness to pay a premium for six ornamental plants with disease-free and/or water conservation certification labels. The results of the mixed logit models show consumers are willing to pay a premium for plants certified as disease-free and/or produced with water conservation practices. The results strongly suggest producers can recoup some of the costs of implementing water conservation measures such as water recycling and disease control measures amid regulatory and drought concerns. Our research also investigated consumers' preferences for multiple third party certifying authorities and whether preferences for the labels varied among consumers. The results showed ornamental plant consumers did not reveal a preference for a particular certifying authority. The results are mixed as to whether willingness to pay for the labels varies among respondents. We show willingness to pay does vary among respondents for three of the plant models indicating preference heterogeneity. / Master of Science

Pilot study: Is it possible to get Clown loach, Chromobotia macracanthus, ready to spawn in aquariums?Sandberg, Marcus January 2016 (has links)
The clown loach Chromobotia macracanthus, is a well known species in ornamental fish circuits although the knowledge about it in its wild environment today is limited. The outtake of 50 million juveniles every year may drive the population into a collapse and it might be necessary to breed clown loaches in captivity to lower the pressure in wild stocks. This has not yet been accomplished without hormone treatment. The aim of the present study is to find out if it is possible for C. macracanthus to prepare for spawning in captivity without the use of hormones. The study was set up according to documentation about the wild conditions simulating the migration prior to spawning from greater rivers and swamps to smaller streams upriver. Although the experiment did not result in spawning it is believed that egg production took place according to criteria for identifying sexually mature fish ready to spawn. If so it would have resulted in the fish retaining or reabsorbing the eggs since they were not laid. A surprising result which tells us it would not be unusual with egg production in C. macracanthus in aquariums around the world.

Horticultural characteristics of seven Sonoran Desert woody legumes which show potential for southwestern landscapingJohnson, Matthew Brian, 1958- January 1988 (has links)
Many plants are not commercially produced due to a lack of accessible information on their horticultural requirements and landscape potential. Members of the Legume Family (Leguminosae) are often conspicuous components of the vegetation of arid and semi-arid subtropical regions. Many of these plants are suitable for landscaping use in areas suited to their cultivation. Coursetia glandulosa, Erythrina flabelliformis, Eysenhardtia orthocarpa, Haematoxylon brasiletto, Lysiloma watsonii, Pithecellobium mexicanum, and Sophora arizonica are woody legumes native to the Sonoran Desert region which offer a variety of form, texture, color and function. All of these plants grow readily from scarified seed. E. flabelliformis and E. orthocarpa are easy to propagate from stem cuttings. Some irrigation is necessary for establishment and reasonable growth in the landscape. Maintenance and pests are minimal. Freezing temperatures are the primary limiting factor to several of the plants. S. arizonica is slow growing and is prone to rot in the nursery.

SAVAIMINIŲ DEKORATYVIŲJŲ AUGALŲ PAPLITIMAS PIETŲ LIETUVOS ŽELDYNUOSE / Distribution of native ornamental plants in greeneries of South LithuaniaPatinskas, Vaidas 03 January 2011 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Native ornamental plants are rather rarely grown in flower gardens as most of them, though some of them are as nice as introduced ornamental plants. However, adaptability to local climatic conditions, their biological and ornamental characteristics make native ornamental plants possible to be grown in various flower gardens. Due to constant changes of point of wiew of the society to ecological problems, estimation of green plantations also changes. Unfortunately, in most South Lithuanian green plantations native ornamental plants are very rarely grown. They are on the verge of extinction in ornamental plantations.
The aim was to estimate distribution of native ornamental plants and possibility of their using in South Lithuanian green plantations. To achieve the aim such tasks were solved: 1) to investigate the diversity of native ant introduced ornamental plants in South Lithuanian green plantations, 2) to reveal the most common native and introduced species of plants, 3) to estimate the peculiarities of usage of native ornamental plants in green plantations.
The research was carried out in four localities of South Lithuania: Alytus, the towns of Pivašiūnai and Dusmenys and Dusmenėliai village. The following objects were selected for research: public flower gardens (10), housing estates (15), old graveyards (10), new graveyards (10), a graveyard of a little village (10 graves). Totally, 55 objects of green plantation were investigated.
During investigation 95 species of... [to full text]

Qarâ Qoyunlu (782-873 h./1380-1468) and Âq Qoyunlu (782-873 h./1380-1468) Turkman’s art haslong been disregarded in the art history of the Iranian world. This research brings the nature of Turkman art intoquestion, through the example of tiling art. Based on a group of fifty ornamental ceramic groups, this studyattempts to trace the history of Turkman decorative features, their designs, their techniques, and to understandtheir artistic connections. This research first proposes to explore every known qarâ qoyunlu and âq qoyunlu monument, sharedout among regional groups so that the strength of the regional traditions could be underlined around suchartistic centers as Tabriz, E½fahân, Yazd, or Kâshân. This part is followed by a technical and ornamental studyof Turkman tiles. The last component of that research is the organization of the production. It aims to givestatements about artistic confluences in Iran, and then to present actors of tiling production : the patrons andcraftsmen. This study intends to bring a new eye on some groups of Islamic tiles. The Turkman transition makesan important step in history of art: a meeting point between Timurid, Mamluk and Ottoman’s borderlineterritories, and a bridge to Modern Empires of the next century.
