Dimensões existenciais do esporte: fenomenologia das experiências esportivas de atletas com deficiência visual / Existential dimensions of the sport: phenomenology of sport experiences of the athletes with visual disability

Ranieri, Leandro Penna 18 February 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to identify and understand the reported meaningful sport experiences by athletes with visual disability. Through the phenomenological analysis of phenomenological interviews with four athletes, seeks to understand and describe these experiences in its fundamental level. Also we want to find the relationship of these lived experiences during sport and its effect on everyday attitudes of these athletes, as witness of the phenomenon as remembered or recalled. The experiences in the sport of these subjects have common elements which also refer to the sphere of existential dimension of them. In sports, athletes can experience a moment of enlargement of their condition, through the effectiveness body, the sense of capacity, the possibility of fulfillment of desire, this becoming persevering will in face of the owns adversities of sport. Sports practice gives the opportunity of effectiveness body, so intense, fulfilling and, above all, socially shared. These common elements can also be found in the experiences of other subjects, with or without disabilities. However, the novelty and the persistence of effectiveness body involved in the lived horizon of the existential condition of these athletes is what can make the sport as aspect existentially modifying and gradually meaningful in their lives. Athletes with visual impairment, in sports, experiencing an effectiveness of the body and an enlargement, an enlargement of their existential condition, the condition of the body in the world and thus the modification of the shrinkage of this sphere, they experience the potential of their being in world

The growing expansion of information and communication technology has been providing opportunities for the development of services for the metropolitan areas. These solutions are aimed at improving the quality of life, minimize environmental impacts, improve health service, minimize spending on natural resources, facilitate trade actions, improve security and bear the increasing number of people at the cities. Initiatives have been proposed by researchers and implemented in cities defined as “Smart Cities”, however none of these fully address the demands made by persons with disabilities (PwDs) and does not make use of the interactions generated by these. One way to promote accessibility for PwD is using mobile computing, communications infrastructure, collaborative resources and actions by PwD to offer intelligent accessibility services. In the Smart Cities infrastructure is already available, requiring only mobile computing and resource management layer, consisting of sensors and cloud computing. In order to improve the quality of life of these people and promote accessibility, it is important support using ICT. One way to promote accessibility to PwDs, is using mobile computing, communications infrastructure and collaborative capabilities in order to offer intelligent accessibility services. This paper presents the Model for Assistive Smart Cities (MASC) for this scenario. Unlike the proposed approaches the MASC uses the interactions of PwD to compose trails which will be offered as a service also is generic because it supports different types of disabilities and is suitable for massive applications. The model includes ontology for people, resources, disability, environments and trails. A prototype was developed to evaluate performance and functionality. This evaluation was conducted with data generated by a simulator contexts in a region located in downtown São Leopoldo - RS. The results indicated that model meets massive applications, getting information to generate trails and supporting the users, PwD, health professionals and public administration.

It intended, more specifically, analyze the questions referents the insertion of people with disability in the capitalist’s labour market, how configure the actions of professional qualification before the competence’s and employability rhetoric, beside of the importance that these people give to the work and the professional qualification. The methodological trajectory to undertake this study consisted of bibliographic and documental research and field research with application of semi structured interview with participants of the Warehouse assistant’s course of a specialized institution in the attendance of people with disability convened to the Labor and Social Development Office of the Ceará State (STDS). The trajectory of the people with disability is marked by social inequality and by the seclusion in institutions that directed to remove them to the collective relationships. In the last twenty years the social movements, have brought conquests, among these the insertion of some policies in the social field. So, from of legislation that obliged the recruitment of people with disability, the companies have to receive these people considered unproductive, add to that, before the competence’s rhetoric, is necessary ensure professional qualifications spaces for these people. So, the professional education for this group is offered, principally, in institutions of specialized attendance. In Fortaleza the courses are offered by these places, as from of a capitalist logic of to offer a formation in short period. The investigated institution realizes attendance for professional qualification, routing for the labour market and follow-up in the first months in the companies. The interviews were realized with six people, being four men and two women, with hearing loss, mental handicap and blindness. The schooling profile is of late access to the teaching levels, whereat only two concluded the high school, the others were participating of Yong and Adult Education, being that one had gave up to dedicate to the job. The participation in professional courses is related to the possibility of get a job, but two participants cited the choice by course for to consider interesting and a new learning. The meaning of to have a job second the interviewees is related to the idea of be dignifying, in the meaning that become more importants to the society, above can support oneself and to contribute to the support of the relatives. In the that be relative to professional experiences all had, even if for means of stage, above reports of informal jobs, with low salaries and without work rights. As from of the analyses realized in the investigative field we have how conclusion that the job for these people have a centralize for the subsistence guaranty, such as, that the professional qualification whereof participate are seen how possibility of to conquest a space of job, even not being in the area whereof the course the realized. The conclusions of our field investigation, added to the documental analyses and to the literary study pertinent, take us to conclude that although the people with disability find an opportunity of social insertion in the labour force experience, receive specific professional capacitation, still find, how the others people of the worker class, jettisoned of a full social insertion, input the selves structural conditions of de capitalist system and of the form historical of prejudice and discrimination that these people suffered along the time.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Claudia Aparecida Serrano.pdf: 816855 bytes, checksum: 5baaf03f7962918649623a17f8950d94 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2008-02-14 / Fundo Mackenzie de Pesquisa / This study has as its main objective the analysis of the manager s experience when engaging peoples with disabilities (PwDs) to their team work. The intention was to find out what the meaning of the word engagement conveyed by these managers is and to what extent this meaning has been transformed into inclusive practices. The idea of the study was to identify what results this engagement could bring up as to the learning processes which give support to the improvement of the managers skills when dealing with the PwDs universe. It consists of an exploratory study driven through the qualitative interpretative basic method, proposed by Merriam. The data presented have been collected from five distinct multinational companies from different areas, as follows: agro-business, automotive, publishing, energy and diesel technology. In-depth interviews, and semi-structured ones have been carried out with managers who hold disabled people in their team work for at least one year; with the peoples with disabilities (PwDs) themselves under their command; and with the staff in charge of the Engagement Program of all of these companies as well. The way of dealing with the collected data was the one of the interpretation of the textual information content by Gil Flores. For the accomplishment of this study, the following authors and theories have been consulted: for the diversity issues, Cox Jr.; as a reference to the concept of engagement and deficiency, Sassaki and Amaral; as to the notion of social identity, Tajfel; and, for the competence and learning matters, Sandberg, Cheetham and Chivers, Kolb, among others. The data analysis revealed that, for the managers, the engagement act is much more related to the social justice issue than to the idea of the empowerment of the PwDs. Such interpretation led them to prioritize the development of two competences: behavioral and ethical, and value ones. The main learning process identified to improve these competences was the existential one, which drove the managers to review their concepts, question and modify their beliefs and, as a consequence of these reflections, review their management techniques. The study now presented intended to enlarge and deepen the discussion on the theme from a new perspective: the manager as an engagement agent.

Attitudes of health science students towards people with disabilities at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Tanzania

Sheriff, Insiyya Djamil January 2010 (has links)
Magister Pharmaceuticae - MPharm / The effects of disability on the individual not only include physical, psychological and emotional adjustments but also negative attitudes of able bodied people towards persons with disabilities. The attitudes of healthcare professionals towards persons with disabilities could affect rehabilitation outcomes as well as the reintegration of these people into society. The aim of the study was to investigate the attitudes of health science students towards persons with disabilities at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), in Tanzania. An explorative quantitative research design using a cross-sectional survey was used. The study sample (182) included all Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Medical and Optometry students. Data was collected using the Attitudes Towards Disabled Persons Scale, consisting of 20 items rated on a six-point Likert Type Scale. A demographic questionnaire which included questions relating to the contact of the students with persons with disabilities was also administered. Descriptive and Inferential statistical analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 15.0. Permission to conduct the study was obtained from the Higher Degrees Committee and the Senate Research Grant and Study Leave Committee of the University of the Western Cape. Further permission was requested from Ministry of Education, Research and Ethics Department in Tanzania and the authorities of the respective Health Sciences programmes to include students in the study. Information obtained was handled with confidentiality and anonymity, and the students had the right to withdraw from the study at anytime. The results revealed that the sample consisted of more females (58%) than males (41.2%).The majority of the participants were between the ages of 20-29 years. The highest response rate was from the medical students (29.1%) followed by the physiotherapy students (27.5%).The Optometry and physiotherapy students had more positive attitudes than the rest of the health science students who participated. The mean score on the ATDP scale was 59.01 (12.3) with scores ranging from 18 to 90. The results therefore revealed that overall the students had a neutral to negative attitude towards persons with disabilities. With regards to the contact of the students with persons with disabilities 26.9% of the participants responded that they had had a long talk with a person with a disability while only 17.6% of the students responded that persons with disabilities visited their homes. The mean contact score was 22.72 indicating that the students had a slightly above average contact with persons with disabilities. No association was found between the attitude and contact mean scores.Information obtained in this study could be used to influence the curriculum of Health Science Students at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre.

Disability in South Africa : a theological and socio-economic perspective

Mdluli, Patrick 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MTh)--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The United Nations (UN) declared the period 1983 to 1992 the “Decade of Disabled Persons”, and introduced the Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities. The Rules demonstrate a strong commitment to upholding human rights and provide guidance for policy formulation to improve the lives of persons with disabilities through their equal participation and maximizing their welfare. There is no consensus on a definition and measurement of disability (Altman, 2001; Mitra 2005:7). The study used the medical, social, and theological models to explore the theoretical, conceptual and theological meaning of living with disabilities; examine the respondents’ perceptions of the church’s influence on their spirituality and daily lives; describe the respondents’ socio-economic conditions with particular attention to civic participation, discrimination, employment, education and health, and make recommendations, based on the findings, to inform policy on people with disabilities in South Africa. The researcher adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach in the study. The population consisted of parents or caregivers to minor and adult children with varying degrees of disabilities, adults with physical disabilities, and family members with disabled persons. Data was collected by means of informal and semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and observation. The main barriers to participation were that the respondents did not feel well enough to participate owing to their disabilities; lack of money; lack of confidence, and the attitudes of others either in the community, at work or at service points. Choice and control in the respondents’ lives was established to be an important aspect of wellbeing and life satisfaction. The respondents who felt they had a choice were satisfied with the services they received. The respondents with mental health conditions reported the least positive experiences and outcomes. Many of the barriers they reported related to their lack of confidence and the attitudes of others in their communities. The study was limited to a relatively small sample of respondents in the greater Cape Town area in the Western Cape, comprising only Evangelical Christians. Consequently, the findings cannot be generalised to all areas of the country and all the Christian churches. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: "Geen opsomming"

A atenção à saúde da pessoa portadora de deficiência no sistema de saúde no município de São Paulo: uma questão de cidadania / Health assistance for people with disability within the Public Health Services in São Paulo city: a matter of citizenship.

Oliver, Fatima Correa 18 December 1990 (has links)
E, ainda, que a assistência a essa população se insere marginalmente no sistema de saúde, depende do modelo assistencial proposto e do estágio de implantação do Sistema Único de Saúde que permitem revelar, no âmbito do setor saúde, a cidadania possível das pessoas portadoras de deficiência / Bringing the problems of the health assistance to the handicapped people to the attention of the Public Health Services is the object of the present work. Its universe of study is the development of the above mentioned problem in the S. P. municipality. We consider that the development of specific services of heath assistance to the handicapped people depends on the delineation of social policies, wich, by their turn, reflect different conceptions of citizenship. This subject is studied through the discussion of different social policies and their repercussions, as well as through the analysis of reports made by profissionals involved with the planning and performing of the assistance to the disabled people within beneficent, philanthropic and public services. We may observe that both the problems of disability and handicap are relevant to the Public Health Services. We may also see that the assistance to these people inserts itself marginally into the Public Health Services, and depends on the proposed assistance model and on the level of implantation of the new Health System, wich allow us to unveil, within the public heath secton wich citizenship is possible to the disabled people
