Using Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and level of perfectionism to predict stress in gifted adolescentsWagner, Amy K. January 2006 (has links)
In this study, the relationship between personality type, perfectionism, and stress was examined in gifted adolescents attending the Indiana Academy for Mathematics, Sciences, and Humanities in Muncie, Indiana. A sample of 120 of these gifted individuals completed the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) and the Profile of Mood States (POMS). Results for participants were then matched with archival data of their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality types. Results from a path analysis indicated that perfectionism is significantly positively associated with negative mood state, or stress. Results failed to indicate a significant relationship between MBTI personality type and perfectionism, or MBTI personality type and stress in these gifted adolescents. The mediator model was found to best explain the relationship among the variables in this study, indicated by the use of Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC). Clinical implications and possibilities for future research are discussed. / Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services

The Domain Specificity of Perfectionism in Varsity AthletesMcDonald, Keith A 11 1900 (has links)
This study examined the domain-specific nature of perfectionism in the contexts of sport and academe among a sample of 113 female and 142 male intercollegiate varsity student-athletes. Participants completed self-report measures of domain-specific perfectionism, perceived competence (PC), and perceived importance (PI) of success. A repeated-measures MANOVA revealed that, on average, student-athletes had significantly higher levels of perfectionism in sport than in school/academe (all ps < .0001). Separate single sample t-tests for PC and PI showed the participants had, on average, significantly higher levels of PC and PI in sport than in school (ps < .001). Bivariate correlation analyses revealed that, in general, as domain-specific PC and PI increased so too did domain-specific perfectionism. Results reinforce the value of measuring perfectionism as a domain-specific (rather than global) personality disposition, and that perceived competence and perceived importance (i.e., perceived task value) may be associated with the development of domain-specific perfectionism.

SELF-COMPASSION HOS STUDENTER: KROPPSUPPFATTNING OCH PERFEKTIONISM SOM PREDIKTORER AV SELF-COMPASSIONHaag, Ella January 2018 (has links)
The interest of the effect of self-compassion on psychological wellbeing has increased. Self-compassion is negatively associated with self-criticism, anxiety and obsession over and evaluation of the own body. Self-compassion is considered to protect against the negative effects of perfectionism. Since self-compassion is believed to improve mental health, it is important to investigate which variables that predict self-compassion. The aim of this study was to examine if the variables body image and perfectionism predicted self-compassion. The self- report questionnaires Self-compassion Scale Short Form, Frosts´s Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and Body Shape Questionnaire-8C were administered to the participants. The result was calculated using hierarchical regression analysis. The result demonstrated that the subscale regarding perfectionism, Concern over Mistakes and Doubts about Actions, and sex significantly predicted self-compassion and explained a significant proportion of the variance in self-compassion. Body image did not significantly predict self-compassion and did not explain a significant proportion of the variance in self-compassion. Further research regarding potential concordance between perfectionism and body image is desirable.

Hermenêutica institucional, supremacia judicial e democracia / Institutional interpretation, judicial supremacy and democracyAlexandre Garrido da Silva 08 July 2011 (has links)
The present thesis intends to study two models of judicial function perfectionism and judicial minimalism delineated by Cass Sunstein, emphasizing their philosophical foundations, their main hermeneutical theories, their decisional limitations and contributions for the institutional design of the relations among the Powers of State. The work in question will develop, in this sense, two fundamental perspectives, that are complementary for the study of the relationships between constitutionalism and democracy in the contemporary political-juridical systems: in first place, an hermeneutical perspective, whose concern resides, above all, in the systemization of the main theories of each one of the two models concerning the interpretation of the constitutional text. In second place, an institutionalist approach will be attempted on the possible alternatives to the protagonism of the Federal Supreme Court in terms of its performance as "last instance" in the definition of the meaning of the constitutional devices. Therefore, proposals of "institutional dialogue" will be analyzed, with support in a comparative study, that can be fomented from a minimalist point of view of judicial moderation that contrasts with the hegemonic defense of an "activist" institutional performance of the constitutional courts at the present time. Lastly, with support in the delineated models of judicial function, a critical analysis of the jurisdictional activity of the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court will be elaborated based in the exam of the argument undertaken in their votes in constitutional hard cases of great political, moral and social repercussion.
