Photo-graft : a critical analysis of image manipulation

Gavard, Sandra. January 1999 (has links)
For 150 years, chemical photography had a privileged status as a truthful means of representation. The emerging technology of digital imaging is challenging this unique position. This paper proposes to examine the status of the photographic image in the digital age, as well as the debate surrounding the new technology and its implications. Chapter one begins with a brief technical history of the medium and establishes the construction behind the myth of photographic truth. Chapter two debunks the myth of photographic image's objectivity. Chapter three describes the specifities of digital imaging technology and discusses the potential problems and consequences of the invasion of digitally enhanced images in the media, as well as possible solutions. Finally, the fourth chapter considers the use of digital imaging in women's magazines and examines what such a use says about our society's values. By considering the issue of photo-manipulation, one can understand that manipulation expresses the human will to create a world of simulation.

Įtakos darymas vartotojų elgsenai, įsisavinant technologinę inovaciją (Fotografijos įrangos pavyzdžiu) / Influencing Consumers' Behavior While Adopting Technological Innovation. (Example of Photographic Equipment)

Karčiauskaitė, Rūta 18 June 2012 (has links)
Teorinėje darbo dalyje analizuojamos mokslinėje literatūroje pateiktos inovacijų sampratos ir inovacijų klasifikacija bei sklaida, įsisavinimo modeliai ir barjerai, trukdantys įsisavinimo procesui, bei aptariami inovacijų paradoksai. Pateikiamos vartotojų elgesio strategijos, susidūrus su inovacija. Analitinėje baigiamojo darbo dalyje pateikiami ir analizuojami rezultatai tyrimo, atlikto anketinės apklausos būdu apklausiant fotografijos įrangos vartotojus. Nustatomi pagrindinai veiksniai, darantys įtaką vartotojų elgsenai įsisavinant technologinę inovaciją. Projektinėje darbo dalyje pateiktas įtakos darymo vartotojams planas, padėsiantis skatinti vartotojus įsisavinti fotografijos įrangą. / The theoretical part of the scientific literature examines the concept of innovation and classification, including innovation diffusion, adoption models and barriers that interfere in the adoption process. Also discusses innovation paradoxes and consumer behavior strategies. The final analytical section provides an analysis of the results obtained from a questionnaire completed by consumers of photographic equipment. Also determines the key factors affecting consumer behavior while adopting technological innovation. The project results are: a plan to influence a consumer behavior in the technological innovation adoption process.

Changing the Traditional High School Photography Curriculum: Integrating Traditional and Digital Technologies

Cooper, Julie A 30 November 2010 (has links)
This thesis presents a photography curriculum for a beginning high school level photography class. It is designed as a teaching guide to structure a photography class that incorporates both film photography and digital photographic technology. One of the biggest challenges for teachers of photography is how to structure a curriculum with a limited number of enlargers and space in the darkroom, while incorporating digital technology with limited computer access for students. The curriculum presented here includes three major parts: a traditional photographic film component, a digital photography component, and a concepts component where students will experiment with different photographic techniques of manipulation as well as tackle photographic history, criticism, and visual literacy.

Individual identification, disease monitoring and home range of Leiopelma hamiltoni

Webster, Janelle T. January 2004 (has links)
Amphibian populations are declining on a global scale and although disease outbreaks are a commonly accepted hypothesis they are not the only one. My aims for my thesis were to study the home range of Leiopelma hamiltoni, to determine whether a photographic database could be used to individual identified them and monitor the health status of the population. Habitat loss is a possible cause. For this reason monitoring an animals' home range is a possible method to detect early impacts the population is facing. By tracking 12 L. hamiltoni within a 12 m x 6 m grid on Maud Island, it was shown that the home range size can vary from 0.5 m2 to 25 m2 based on the minimum convex polygon method. However, to track multiple individuals it is important to be able to distinguish among frogs. The commonly used methods of identification, such as toe clipping, pose potentially detrimental effects. Therefore, non-invasive methods based on natural markings need to be established. Through the use of the dark pigmented patterns found on the skin of L. hamiltoni individuals can be identified on recapture with a mean accuracy of 93%. By developing a database to maintain the photographs used for individual identification, the database can also be used to monitor the status of the population. During 2003 numerous L. hamiltoni were observed with denuded patches predominantly on the facial region. By monitoring five individuals within the captive facility at the University of Canterbury it was discovered that frogs appear to be able to cure themselves. Through researching the home range requirements and developing a photographic database to monitor the population status of L. hamiltoni, it will aid in the management of ensuring the long-term survival of this archaic species of frog.
