Fysioterapeuters syn på psykosocial hälsa vid rehabilitering av en främre korsbandsskada : En kvalitativ intervjustudie / Physiotherapists’ view of pshycosocial health in rehabilitation of an anterior cruciate ligament injury

Flermoen, Tove, Holmström, Paulina January 2024 (has links)

Work-related complaints and diseases of physical therapists – protocol for the establishment of a “Physical Therapist Cohort” (PTC) in Germany

Girbig, Maria, Deckert, Stefanie, Kopkow, Christian, Latza, Ute, Dulon, Madeleine, Nienhaus, Albert, Groneberg, David, Seidler, Andreas 07 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Background: Only few studies deal with the workload of physical therapists and the health consequences, although this occupational group is quite important for the health care system in many industrialized countries (e.g. ca. 136 000 people are currently employed as physical therapists in Germany). Therefore, the current state of knowledge of work-related diseases and disorders of physical therapists is insufficient. The aim of the "Physical Therapist Cohort" (PTC) study is to analyze the association between work-related exposures and diseases among physical therapists in Germany. This article describes the protocol of the baseline assessment of the PTC study. Methods/Design: A cross-sectional study will be conducted as baseline assessment and will include a representative random sample of approximately 300 physical therapists employed in Germany (exposure group), and a population-based comparison group (n = 300). The comparison group will comprise a sample of working aged (18–65 years) inhabitants of a German city. Variables of interest will be assessed using a questionnaire manual including questions regarding musculoskeletal, dermal, and infectious diseases and disorders as well as psychosocial exposures, diseases and disorders. In addition to subjective measures, a clinical examination will be used to objectify the questionnaire-based results (n = 50). Discussion: The study, which includes extensive data collection, provides a unique opportunity to study the prospective association of work-related exposures and associated complaints of physical therapists. Baseline results will give first clues with regard to whether and how prevalent main exposures of physiotherapeutic work and typical work areas of physical therapists are associated with the development of work-related diseases. Thereby, this baseline assessment provides the basis for further investigations to examine causal relationships in accordance with a longitudinal design.

The comprehension of the profession and the concepts of health illness, and patient, are also needed for the physical therapists to consider their intervention on a more extended basis than only on the rehabilitation one. The purpose of this study is to investigate the comprehension of the last year´s Physical therapy students from a private University in São Paulo about health illness, patient, Physical therapy and the relationship between physical therapist and their patients, associating the understanding to the existent health models. In order to achieve these objectives it uses authors of the Health Psychology who defend the biopsychosocial approach, and also authors of Physical therapy and Medicine who write about the models for graduation curriculae of health professionals. Ten semi-structured interviews were led with students, asking about the subjects of the study. The results were analyzed qualitatively, using the construction of analysis categories to answer the objectives of the research. In conclusion, the students noticed some phsychological and social aspects of patients, but not in a clear way and in most of the students, this knowledge was adquired outside the University. Eventhough, the topics on humanities are included in their course, but at the time of the graduation, students don´t reach the objectives of a human comprehension of patient, and oscillate between the biomedical and biopsychosocial model / A visão biopsicossocial de homem é de fundamental importância para que os fisioterapeutas sejam capazes de atuar com seus pacientes, de forma global, sem focar a atenção apenas à doença, mas sim à pessoa doente.

A experi?ncia de estagi?rios de fisioterapia no relacionamento com pacientes ambulatoriais / The experience of physical therapist interns in their relationship to patients in an outpatient clinic

Sousa, Nadini Brand?o de 11 February 2015 (has links)

Physical contact between therapist and patient and the frequency of the assistance involves the development of a peculiar type of interpersonal relationship. This research aimed to grasp, phenomenologically, the experience of the physical therapy trainees regarding their relationship with outpatients at a university clinic. It is an exploratory qualitative research, phenomenologically inspired. Eight individual encounters were carried out with undergraduates who are in their seventh, ninth and tenth semesters. After each of the encounters, the researcher wrote a first-person narrative, based on her impressions of the meaning of the lived experience of the participants. A narrative synthesis was then developed in order to capture the meaning of the experience as such. The analysis made it possible to conclude that trainees strive to offer a treatment that includes, not only technique but also attitudes of respect, warmth and welcome. Caring for patients with neurological problems, especially those involving progressive degeneration, is signified by the interns as unrewarding since recovery is impossible and verbal communication is difficult. They also feel distressed, as they perceive themselves emotionally involved with the patients, despite the attempt to maintain a strictly professional approach. On the other hand, in a broad way, this relationship is referred to as an opportunity for new learnings and psychological maturity with a potential for growth both in personal and professional life.
