The knowledge and attitutes of physiotherapists towards patients with HIV/AIDS in the Lusaka Province, Zambia.

Salati, Florence Chiwala January 2004 (has links)
With the increase in the number of persons suffering from HIV/AIDS, physiotherapists are often required to treat these patients who present with respiratory and neurological complications. Although physiotherapists are at a lower risk of HIV infection in the workplace than nurses and doctors, it is necessary to determine their knowledge and perceptions of the risks, fears of HIV transmission and their attitudes towards patients with the disease. The aim of the study was to determine the physiotherapists knowledge of, and their attitudes towards patients with HIV/AIDS. It also explored whether the physiotherapists knowledge influences attitudes towards HIV/AIDS patients in Lusaka, Zambia.

Sjukgymnasters upplevelser av arbete på särskilt boende för äldre : En intervjustudie / Physiotherapists’ Perceptions of work in Housing for the Elderly : An Interview Study

Linde, Elin, Gustafsson, Lina January 2014 (has links)
Background: The conditions for the physiotherapists’ work in housing for the elderly vary depending on number of care recipients, the availability of the physiotherapists and the resources provided at the county level in Sweden. Previous studies have shown that the lack of resources makes the work difficult for the physiotherapists. Moreover, it is hard to meet the needs of individual care recipients when physiotherapists have the medical rehabilitation responsibility for a large number of care recipients. Rehabilitation is carried out on a specific level and a general level and often delegated to care assistants. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine physiotherapists’ perceptions of their work in housing for the elderly. Method: Seven physiotherapists working in houses for the elderly were interviewed with the help of a semi-structured interview guide. The interviews were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis revealed five categories: controlling factors, priorities, cooperation around the care recipient, the breadth of the work and self-image and status. Conclusion: The participants’ perceptions of work in housing for the elderly were that the job was fun and varied but influenced by stress and lack of resources. The work was perceived as consisting of a lot of prioritizing; however, the grounds on which the decisions were made varied as did the perception of support from guidelines. The participants reported that they desired a well-functioning working relationship with the care assistants because the physiotherapy inputs were often delegated to them.

Development of clinical reasoning capability in student physical therapists

Christensen, Nicole January 2009 (has links)
One of the goals for physical therapist graduates of professional entry-level education programs is development of the ability to practice effectively in the present health care environment. Another goal is for graduates to develop the ability to continue to learn and grow as professionals throughout their careers, and to contribute to the evolution of their profession in the future. The clinical reasoning and associated experiential learning of new graduates can be viewed as a practical demonstration of both of these goals. This research explored student physical therapists? understanding and learning of clinical reasoning during their professional entry education. / PhD Doctorate

Palavras-chaves: Fisioterapia; Qualidade de vida; WHOQOL-Bref; Saúde do trabalhador / Abstract: The Physical Therapy is a new profession, comparing with others in health area, many times with secular tradition. One of its objects is to help people to reach their maximum functionality and quality of life. Based on the lack of searchs about physical therapists¿ quality of life, the changes on the labour world that can affect it, the existence of many risk points of this activity and the fact that these professionals use their own bodies as a labour instrument, this search intends to investigate some specific points related with these professionals¿ quality of life. This is an observational cross sectional study aiming at knowing the quality of life of physical therapists of the health complex of the local public University (UNICAMP), in 2007. Data were collected using a questionnaire including personal informations and the Whoqol-Bref instrument. Response rate was 80% and the sample consisted of 64 professionals. The search sample is predominantly female, young, with few years of graduation, but hightly specialized, also being optimistic about the profession¿s future. Half of them lives with a partner, but most has no child. These physical therapists deal with multiple jobs, conciliating two until five jobs, with a mean of 39,32 worked hours a week. Of the total sample, the majority was satisfied with their health condition and evaluated their quality of life as good. However, we notice a contrast between this self-evaluation and the reported illness. Most of these people also had high quality of life in the physical, psychological and environment domains and low quality of life in the social relationships domain. To evaluate quality of life is not an easy task and doesn¿t end with the application of a measure instrument. Starting from this premise, we tried to recognize the facets about social and demographic aspects, and the ones related with the labour world and quality of life, not only as a physical therapists¿ portrait, but, mainly, intending to alarm about the necessity of new social and health public politics that propound new directions to the planning of services, through actions that consider the fortifying and wasting potentials of this population, using a method that stare at labour as a determinant on human¿s quality of life, and also consider its expression on labour.
