Transporte TDM em redes GPON / TDM transport in GPON networks

Guimarães, Marcelo Alves 17 February 2011 (has links)
In this work we analyze and propose the use of native channeled /structured TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) in GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), with emphasis on the structure for transmission of the telephone network legacy. The main target is to achieve an increase in transmitted bandwidth efficiency by fragmenting E1 signals, thus avoiding the use of circuit emulation techniques (which reduce the bandwidth efficiency due to overhead addition). Initially, it is described in TDM transport in GPON networks, as it is performed in present commercial equipment by two techniques: CES - Circuit Emulation Service and Native TDM - unstructured. Next, we introduce the concepts of digital switching aiming its application on the transport of native and structured TDM in GPON. At this stage, we propose a transport solution, describe its protocol and functionalities. Finally, for concept proof, we present an implementation in HDL (Hardware Description Language) meant to FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) application.

Passive Optical Networks are increasingly diffused as a broadband access technology. Due to their importance, such networks demands continue supervision scheme. Different techniques could be employed for Optical Network Supervision, among them those using reflectometry have highlighted, because it offer low cost when compared with other monitoring methods and do not require intervention in the user’s home. On the other hand, when doing monitoring, it is expected that this action does not influence the information signal transmitted to the subscriber. In this context, this work aims to quantify, through simulations, how the technique of time domain optical reflectometry interferes on the transmission of a WDM-PON network.

Saliou, Fabienne 14 June 2010 (has links) (PDF)

Tidal Exchange Process at Ta-pon Bay

Cheng, Po-Hsin 29 August 2002 (has links)
The study site, Ta-pon Bay, is located in southwestern Taiwan that has the total volume of 9.92 x 106 m3, surface area of 4.46 x 106 m2, and an average depth of 2.19 m. The Ta-pon Bay is a shallow and semi-enclosed lagoon. The tidal regime at the Ta-pon Bay inlet is mixed, with diurnal dominance. There is noticeable amount of land-derived freshwater inflow in Ta-pon Bay and the mixing between the sea water and freshwater is largely determined by the tide. In order to understand the tidal exchange process between Ta-pon Bay and the coastal sea, the observation focused on the physiographic and hydrographic characteristics of this lagoon. The bathymetry of the study area was also surveyed. From the spatial sediment grain-size distribution pattern, the high energy region is at the inlet and the low energy region is in the interior of the lagoon. Our observation results indicate that freshwater outflow from the Kao-ping River was not transported into Ta-pon Bay. Tides are also the dominant cause for the water level fluctuations in the lagoon. In our winter observation, the local wind effects and atmospheric forcing dominated the subtidal sea surface fluctuations. In summer observation, the subtidal variability was strongly influenced by freshwater inflow. In Ta-pon Bay, the spatial salinity distribution was controlled by the flood and ebb tides, and the spatial temperature distribution was controlled by the different seasons. The tidal prism model can help us understand the tidal exchange between a shallow coastal lagoon and the open sea, and estimate the volume of freshwater inflow, return flow factor, and the turn-over time. Furthermore, we used a one-dimensional model to simulate the hydrodynamics of tidal inlet. The model results show good agreement with observations. We found that the superelevation of the lagoon was 20 cm. This mean sea level difference was caused by freshwater inflow and accumulation of lagoonward tidal transport of water.

The Study of 10-40 Gb/s High-Speed Laser Module Based on Coaxial-Type Packages

Lin, Min-Ching 12 February 2008 (has links)
The goal of this dissertation is to provide a solution by using a low-cost and high-performance laser module package for the applications of high-speed optical communication, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), and passive optical network (PON). A 10-Gb/s coaxial-type laser module, a 10-Gb/s bi-directional optical sub-assembly (BOSA) module, and a 4 channels x 10-Gb/s coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) laser module have been implemented for this study. The conventional TO-Can header suffers poor RF transmission characteristics without proper modification. The notch filter effect induced by the parasitic inductance of the long lead and wires is one of its major factors. The proposed coaxial laser module is fitted with a commercial TO-Can with an internal matching resistor of 18£[ to reduce the signal reflection. The comparison of small signal results between the theoretical and the experimental results shows good agreement. The proposed 10-Gb/s coaxial laser module implemented can achieve 31% mask margins with the OC-192 standard. For cost consideration, the structure of the proposed 10-Gb/s BOSA modules is adapted to the idea of the commercial low bit rate of 155-Mb/s or 1.25-Gb/s BOSA modules. The proposed BOSA modules show a clear opening eye diagrams at both their transmitter and receiver side. The power penalty with a 10-km SMF transmission is 0.5dB and the crosstalk penalty is 0.9dB. According to the experimental results, we have demonstrated successfully the high-performance and the low-cost of 10-Gb/s BOSA modules and verified the feasibility of the bi-directional architecture for use in the future¡¦s high-speed FTTH or PON network applications. The 4 channel x 10-Gb/s laser modules adapted the existing low-cost TO-Can laser and the CWDM techniques provide one of the solutions for the 40-Gb/s optical communication application. The proposed optical module operating at 10-Gb/s per channel can exceed a rate of over 30 km transmission at the bit-error-rate (BER) of 10-9, with an average system power penalty of 12 dB. The proposed high-performance 40-Gb/s CWDM module shows the low-cost possibility that ensures the application of WDM-passive optical network (WDM-PON) fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) systems.

Μαμουνάκης, Ιωάννης 30 April 2014 (has links)
Modern passive optical networks (PONs) are perhaps the most important choice for the development of future broadband network in the present and the future . Main reason is the low cost of implementation, simple operation and high - transmission rate . Modern Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPONs) and the evolution of the Gigabit PON (XGPON) have standardized speeds of 10 Gb / s, while the upcoming standards expected to increase the available capacity . The EPONs, in particular , enable the convergence of Ethernet networks , which finds wide application in locally (local) and metro (metro) area networks , and fiber optic infrastructure installed within the scope of a fiber-to-the -home (FTTH), the fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) networks . But even for access to the end users . We propose , through this work , a new prediction method of traffic in order to minimize the delay packets in Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON). The method is based on monitoring the traffic on the Optical Network Units (ONUs) and uses readily available information about network traffic to provide the data to be accumulated at each ONU in the next cycle . After investigation, the appropriate algorithm was implemented and tested experimentally. Simulation results show that the improvement of packet propagation delay (delay) fell over 25 % , without modifying the existing bandwidth assignment algorithm . Finally turned justice (fairness) algorithm in providing system resources between units ONU.

Research on key techniques in passive optical networks and optical grid applications

Zhu, Min 21 December 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The bandwidth-intensive applications, such as interactive video and multimedia services, have further increased the demand of bandwidth. Thus wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) is viewed as a promising candidate to realize the next generation optical access networks due to its dedicated bandwidth for each subscriber and more flexible bandwidth management. The first half of this thesis will cover three technologies in a WDM-PON, including multicast overlay scheme, automatic protection switching scheme and tunable Fabry-Pérot laser diode (FP-LD) self-seeding scheme. In the second half of the thesis, WDM optical network is utilized as a virtual computing environment, which connects widely distributed computing resources to support large-scale scientific, engineering or commercial computing applications. It is so called "optical Grid" systems. Grid applications may range from the simple transfer of a large data set to the complex execution of a collection of interdependent tasks. However, for such a system involving many heterogeneous computing and network resources, faults seem to be inevitable. This thesis will also address the issue of maximizing grid application availability in real-time optical Grid systems through resource-fault-tolerant scheduling techniques.

How important is a reproach? : A qualitative study on how responsible editors reacts to a reproach from the Press Ombudsman.

Eriksson, Aron, Forsberg, Julia January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out how the responsible editors on a selection of Swedish newspapers react to a reproach from the Press Ombudsman. The method for this research was eight qualitative interviews with responsible editors on some of Sweden’s biggest newspapers, and also a few local newspapers. We based our results on the interviews and three theories – media accountability, communicative action and consequence neutrality. We used these theories because we think that, put together they produce the most apt view of how media ethics is being handled in the printed press. We found out that in most cases a reproach doesn’t mean that much to a newspaper. But all the responsible editors think it’s important for the people and most of all for the person who filed a complaint against the newspaper. It’s also important for the credibility of the self–regulation system on which the Swedish printed press is built.

High Speed Clock and Data Recovery Techniques

Abiri, Behrooz 01 December 2011 (has links)
This thesis presents two contributions in the area of high speed clock and data recovery systems. These contributions are focused on the fast phase recovery and adaptive equalization techniques. The first contribution of this thesis is an adaptive engine for a 2x blind sampling receiver. The proposed adaptation engine is able to find the phase-dependent DFE coefficients of the receiver on the fly. The second contribution is a burst-mode clock and data recovery architecture which uses an analog phase interpolator. The proposed burst-mode CDR is capable of locking to the first data transition it receives. The phase interpolator uses the inherent timing information in the data transition to rotate the phase of a reference clock and align it with the incoming data edge. The feasibility of the concept is demonstrated through fabrication and measurements.
