Em Porto Alegre, capital do Rio Grande do Sul (Brasil), uma pedreira localizada num bairro da zona leste configura o que, para alguns habitantes, não é parte da cidade, embora situada em seus limites político-administrativos. A vila das Pedreiras (uma das nomenclaturas utilizadas pela prefeitura municipal) é habitada por famílias de trabalhadores e ex-trabalhadores de uma empresa mineradora, que realiza a extração de rochas no local, bem como por outros habitantes que encontraram no local uma forma acessível de aquisição de moradia. A partir da etnografia realizada num lugar onde, há quatro décadas, é extraído esse material “essencial à cidade”, interroga-se sobre como os habitantes concebem sua relação com a pedreira e a cidade desde o ponto de vista daqueles que são atingidos diariamente pela convivência com a extração de rochas. É desde esse cotidiano que busca-se conhecer as diferentes formas de uso, significação e apropriação da “natureza”, esta sendo termo de disputa tanto material quanto simbólica entre os sujeitos que habitam um lugar atravessado pela “injustiça ambiental” própria dos territórios onde a mineração se instala. In Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), a quarry located in the east side neighborhood sets which is not part of the city, for some people, although situated in their political-administrative boundaries. The village of Quarries (one of the nomenclatures used by city hall) is inhabited by families of workers and former workers of a mining company, which performs the extraction of rocks at the site, as well as other inhabitants they found in place an affordable way to acquisition of property. From the ethnography in a place where, during four decades, this "essential to the city"material is extracted, wonders about the people conceive their relationship with the quarry and the city from the point of view of those who are affected daily by the coexistence with the extraction of rocks. It is from this routine that seeks to identify the different forms of use, appropriation and meanings of "nature", this term being both material and symbolic struggle between the subjects who inhabit a place traversed by the very "environmental injustice" of territories where mining settles. In this thesis we aim to reveal the perspectives of local populations on the outskirts of a city, offer other concepts (alternatives) for the environment and nature, denouncing the practices of developmental rhetoric.

Esse estudo investiga as transformações nas visões de mundo presentes às narrativas e práticas cotidianas de habitantes de territórios urbanos situados às margens da água, as ilhas do Delta do Jacuí, na Região Metropolitana da capital do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre. Em meio a uma situação de conflito de uso de terras e águas na cidade, busca-se compreender como ações cotidianas dos moradores no ambiente urbano e suas representações quanto ao seu pertencimento diferenciado à paisagem urbana de Porto Alegre podem ser interpretados no contexto das tendências contemporâneas de reestruturação de relações sociais e reorientação de comportamentos para construção de uma cidadania ambientalmente comprometida com a preservação e recuperação dos ambientes naturais do planeta. A partir de seus itinerários urbanos, presentes às suas trajetórias sociais, investiga-se a relação entre seus sentimentos de enraizamento nas comunidades das ilhas e o reconhecimento de sua pertença a esferas sociais mais amplas, como a Região Metropolitana, a Região Hidrográfica e de uma forma geral, à Biosfera. / This thesis approaches the transformations in the world view that are present in the narratives and the daily practices of the residents of territories located on the margins of the water, the islands of the Delta do Jacuí, in the Metropolitan Area of the State of Rio Grande do Sul's capital, Porto Alegre, Brazil. Amid a situation of conflict of use of land and water in the city, we have interpreted the residents' daily actions in the urban environment and their representations of their belonging to the urban landscape of Porto Alegre on the context of the contemporary tendencies of restructuring of social relationships and reorientation of behaviors for construction of a citizenship committed to the preservation and recovery of the natural environment of the planet. Using the recording and the editing of audiovisual narratives, the research went back to the importance of the urban experience of those subjects and of the collective memory in the understanding of the different ethical dimensions of the ecossistemic point of view about the relationships among individual, environment and society. The study investigates their urban itineraries that are present in their social trajectories, their belonging to the communities of the islands and the recognition of their relationships to wider social spheres, as the Metropolitan Region, the Hydrographic Region and in general, to the Biosphere.

Objetivo: este estudo teve por objetivo verificar a eficácia de um procedimento para a identificação da deficiência auditiva em crianças pré escolares de uma comunidade de baixa renda por pessoas não especialistas. Casuística e métodos: funcionários da creche e da unidade de saúde foram treinados para aplicarem um questionário para triagem auditiva nos pais de 224 crianças de 3 a 6 anos de idade, que foram submetidas à triagem audiométrica e imitanciométrica. Resultados: verificou-se alta concordância na coleta de dados por meio do questionário entre a pesquisadora e os não especialistas. O questionário apresentou melhor sensibilidade e pior especificidade. Os não especialistas relataram aprendizado com a pesquisa e conscientização sobre a importância da audição. Conclusão: é possível treinar agentes comunitários a identificarem a deficiência auditiva em suas comunidades com instrumentos de baixo custo. / Aim: this study aimed to access the efficacy of a low cost instrument used by non professionals to identify hearing loss in pre-school children in a low income community. Methods: employees of a nursery school and a health unit were trained to use a hearing screening questionnaire with parents of 224 children aged 3 to 6 years. The children underwent audiological screening. Results: the results showed that the non - specialists were capable of reproducing the evaluation of the professional regarding the use of the questionnaire. The questionnaire presented better sensitivity than specificity. The non - specialists reported learning and awareness of the importance of hearing in children. Conclusion: the questionnaire offers a low cost option for hearing screening, specially if it is administered by non professionals resources
