Speculating Relationships

Czienskowski, Lennart January 2020 (has links)
In this thesis the idea of relationship-centered design is proposed based on a speculative design project which is grounded in an understanding of post-anthropocentrism. To facilitate post-anthropocentric human-artifact relationships, that don’t favor living actors over non-living actor, objects may appear to have a life-like agency based on needs and therefore must be empathized with which can be achieved through object characters. Through the discussion of materiality, object behaviors, and object characters, the philosophy of object-oriented ontology and the social-theory of actor-network theory are connected to concepts from interaction design and reveal that materiality, object characters, and object behaviors “meet” in the interaction of humans and artifacts. The phenomenological approach of the Research through Design methodology has shown how the applied methods, that were focussed on the perceived experience of the designer, helped to identify possible correlations of materiality, object behavior and object characters that might affect the human-artifact relationship. Further, the research identified possible implications of post-anthropocentric design, which suggests, that further investigation of how post-anthropocentrism as an approach to design might influence aspects as understandings of equality, consent, and consumption behavior which eventually might have an influence on socio-political structures.

: En undersökning av alternativa skogsbrukares uppfattningar, visioner och förutsättningar / Alternatives to the Swedish forestry model – opportunities for a more sustainable development for the forest? : An examination of the perceptions, visions and conditions of alternative foresters

Frödin, Thomas January 2022 (has links)
The thesis is based on a wonder about the Swedish forestry's dominant model with clear-cutting and impact on biodiversity, and how it relates to the three dimensions of sustainable development. The purpose of this study has therefore been to investigate alternative foresters approaches to the use of the forest and how it affects both humans and the environment. The study has been carried out by qualitative methods through semi-structured interviews for gathering of data, and thematic analysis for processing the data. The theoretical framework revolves around post-anthropocentrism and approaches to other life forms, and how it can influence choices made in forestry. The results show that there is a perceived worry regarding the current forestry model with clear-cuts and risks linked to biodiversity and the possibility of well-being for future humans. The forestry today is perceived as unsustainable and in need of alternative forestry models, which takes more consideration to other species and the natural ecosystems. To achieve this the alternative foresters presents visions of increased biological and ecological knowledge in society, and an increased diversity of forestry models, economic alternatives and species.

Människan som alltings centrum i socialt arbete : En diskursanalys om Socialstyrelsens framställningar av icke-mänskliga djur / The Human as the Center of Everything in Social Work : A Discourse Analysis of the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare´s Portrayals of Non-human Animals

Lindh, Sofi, Rosenqvist, Linnea January 2024 (has links)
Drawing on previous research on human-centered social work, this thesis aims to analyze how the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) reproduces and challenges anthropocentrism in social work. Using an integrated discourse analysis as method, this qualitative thesis analyzes how non-human animals are discursively constructed in relation to humans. Post-anthropocentrism has been used as a theoretical framework. Our findings showthat when the non-human animal is depicted in relation to a human with proximity to anthropos (human with high status), anthropocentrism in social work is maintained. Conversely, when a non-human animal is depicted in relation to a human with distance from anthropos (human withlow status), anthropocentrism in social work is challenged. The analysis has led to the development of a model to visualize the results. The thesis suggests implications for future research on violence, to further study non-human animals in relation to humans.
