A study of the perceptions of African American clergy and faith based service practitioners regarding HIV/ AIDS education and prevention

Ogunlade, Vickie B. 01 May 2007 (has links)
This study examined the perceptions and behaviors of clergy and faith-based social service practitioners within the African-American faith community, in relationship to HIV/AIDS education and prevention. This study employed a descriptive exploratory design, utilizing quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze the secured data. The independent variables were clergy and faith-based social service practitioners. The three dependent variables were identified as perceptions (composed of health beliefs, attitudes, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control), intended behavior and actual behavior regarding HIV/AIDS education and prevention. Findings revealed a lack of significant difference in the perceptions of clergy and church workers regarding HIV/ AIDS education and prevention. However, there was a statistically significant difference in their intended and actual behaviors to provide HIV/AIDS information to various age groups in the church community.

Hodnocení znalostí o vhodném složení stravy u pacientů s přítomností rizikových faktorů kardiovaskulárních onemocnění / Assessment of knowledge about appropriate setup of nutrition in patients with cardiovascular disease risk factors

Lupoměská, Petra January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis consists of two parts - the theoretical and the practical one. The theoretical part is divided into several chapters; the first three are focused on the main information about atherosclerosis such as its definition, predilection areas, process of atherosclerotic changes, the most important risk factors and its clinical consequences. The following chapter introduces the essential measures used in cardiovascular disease prevention. The last chapter deals with education and also describes education for cardiovascular disease prevention. The practical part is dedicated to the assessment of knowledge about the appropriate composition of diet in patients with cardiovascular disease risk factors. The research part was carried out on grounds of the quantitative survey through a questionnaire, which was completed by patients of the Centre for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease of the General Teaching Hospital in Prague in the course of three months - from 1st November 2017 to 31st January 2018. There are one main and two partial aims to the study; the main aim was to determine knowledge about the appropriate composition of diet in patients. This aim was accomplished, patients were successful in some knowledge questions, but only a small number of them knew the right answer to...

Využití kompetencí sestry v oblasti preventivní péče u pacienta s ICHS / Use of Nurses' Competencies in Preventive Care of a Patient with Ischemic Heart Disease

MATSCHEOVÁ, Linda January 2010 (has links)
Ischemic heart disease belongs to the most frequent diseases in developed countries. I have chosen this topic not only because I am interested in this issue but also because I work at emergency ward of internal medicine and majority of patients there suffer from this disease. There are two parts in my thesis {--} the theoretical and the research part. The theoretical part deals with heart anatomy and physiology, with epidemiology and aetiology, with risk factors, with classification, clinical picture, diagnostics, with treatment and prevention of ischemic heart disease. Further, the thesis survey educational process, roles, mission, function and competences of a nurse. The first objective of the thesis was to find out the awareness of nurses´ competences in the area of secondary preventive care in patients with ischemic heart disease. The second objective was to find out, whether nurses are able to apply their competences in the area of secondary preventive care in patients with ischemic heart disease. The third objective was to find out involvement of management (head nurses, departmental nurses, shift nurses) in the secondary preventive care in patients with ischemic heart disease. The fourth objective of the thesis was to find out whether nurses use their knowledge of secondary prevention in patients with ischemic heart disease. Four hypotheses were set for the above mentioned objectives. H1: Nurses are aware of their competences in the area of secondary preventive care in patients with IHD. H2: Nurses are able to apply their competences in the area of secondary preventive care in patients with IHD. H3: Shift nurses, motivated by head nurses, are more involved in the secondary prevention in patients with IHD. H4: Nurses use their knowledge in the area of secondary prevention in patients with IHD. A questionnaire was made up to achieve the objectives and to prove or to disprove the hypotheses of this research. The questionnaire contained 24 questions {--} closed and semi-closed. The research sample was formed from nurses from South Bohemian and central-Bohemian regions. 377 questionnaires were handed out. 242 questionnaires returned and 230 of them were applicable to the research. The first, second and fourth hypotheses were proved. Shift nurses are more involved in secondary prevention in patients with IHD, however, not on the basis of motivation by head nurses, thus, the fourth hypothesis was not proved. I also revealed that nurses do not have sufficient knowledge in the area of secondary preventive care in patients with IHD. On the grounds of these results we created mental maps on ischemic heart disease and its prevention. These maps might enhance nurses´ knowledge and improve the life of patients with ischemic heart disease.

Epidemiologie sporadické formy kolorektálního karcinomu z hlediska prevence a možnosti časné diagnostiky. / Epidemiology of sporadic forms of colorectal cancer in terms of preventions and the possibility of early diagnostic.

Schneiderová, Michaela January 2018 (has links)
Thanks to the latest achievements in diagnostics, surgery and oncology, the overall perspective of colorectal cancer has changed significantly. There are no doubts that we deal with a complex disease, requiring multidisciplinary approach and assessment. Only this approach can enable patients to survive longer and maintain acceptable quality of there lives. Taking a long view over several decades, the steep rise in incidence of this malignancy was strongly alarming. It is partly a penalty for a prolongation of life expectance, since one of the risk factors is age. Knowing the way of life and dietary customs of our ancestors, one cannot deny that the change of lifestyle including dietary habits, as well as decrease of physical activity, obesity, stress, unsuitable thermal processing of food produced in bulk, consumption of immoderate amount of red meat, limited intake of raw vegetable and fruits, excessive intake of xenobiotics, such as medication or cosmetic products, excessive alcohol consumption, particularly beer, nicotinism, environmental pollutants, etc. contribute to the increase of this cancer incidence. All the above mentioned factors have led over the time to a formation and development of numerous so called civilization diseases, among which rates the colorectal cancer (CRC). Despite the...

Como os integrantes profissionais de uma Unidade Básica de Saúde (UBS) conhecem e praticam os conteúdos de Odontologia - análise de um caso / How the agents of a Basic Health Unit (UBS) know and practice the dental content - analysis of a case

Kulik, Marco Antonio 03 June 2015 (has links)
The Primary Health Care (APS), the basis of the Unified Health System (SUS), has two main components: completeness and health education. Understanding the chronic diseases in their social and family environment is the duty of the professionals who work in the Family Health Teams (eSF). In this context the incorporation of professionals from the oral health area (SB) into the Family Health Strategy (ESF), brought new needs of knowledge and practice to the agents of the Family Health Teams (eSF) to perform their tasks especially in home care. Therefore, it is necessary to create educational materials on Teledentistry that are appropriate to the information needs, respecting the prior knowledge of the Oral Health agents (SB). Thus, it is important to know what the professionals of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) know and how they apply the concepts of promotion in Oral Health (SB). This research has the objective of knowing how much each category of professionals from the Family Health Team (eSF) in the municipality of Platina, SP, knows and practices Oral Health (SB) and apply it in their daily activities. In this regard, we designed an open free adhesion questionnaire where the responders had full and unrestricted freedom to issue their comments, evaluations and suggestions about their personal experiences in their work with the eSF they belong. Data collection included a single team. This allowed the work with reliable data. From the quantitatively tabulated responses, including the percentage of frequency, it appears that there is a need of the agents to prepare themselves to the task of teaching and supervising all the members of the families as to the procedures of prevention, maintenance and oral health promotion. All this makes the completeness and knowledge about oral health education an effective result in the overall health of every citizen and the community

Munhoz, Mariana Maia 24 November 2014 (has links)
Concluiu-se a importância de intervenções para auxiliar os professores na relação professor-aluno / The quality of the teacher\'s relationship with their students influences there psychosocial and academic development, especially during kindergarten and the first years of elementary school. The teachers support both emotional and educational is of utmost importance to the student\'s performance in the first years of elementary school. The relationship between the teacher and his/hers students is influenced by his/her psyche, which, in turn, is influenced by objective aspects of external reality and subjective aspects related to his/her inner world. This study aims at investigating the psychodynamic and adaptive aspects of the teacher in inter-relationships with the students in the classroom. This study contributes to the expansion of useful knowledge for the creation and planning of interventions aimed at promoting teachers mental health and ability to improve their adaptive effectiveness and their relationship with the student group.
