One of the most widely used and documented measurement techniques for obtaining software size is Function Point Analysis (FPA). However, there have been frequently discussions about its applicability to SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) projects, which justifies a choice of the research topic. This document presents the results of a research whose objective was the construction of a proposal to measure SOA and BPM (Business Process Management) softwares through the use of Function Points (PF). A proposal has been developed based on literature review and empirical data analyzes, with was collected from an execution of a real project. The research compare empirical data (from a real-world project) to projections based on FPA, as well on the proposed method. Results demonstrate that the proposed method is suitable to SOA/BPM projects, differently of FPA.

The use of information technology (IT) in the practice of health care is a trend that has been evolving and gaining increasingly space in health area in Brazil and all around the world. In this context, the health informatics, as discussed in literature, is a knowledge field applied to scientific development that uses computer technology to improve health services, fixing problems and assisting in decision-making. Faced with this approach, there is the use of modern IT resources for carrying out distance activities related to health practice at various levels, resulting in activities named telehealth. Aware of benefits brought by health informatics, the federal government proposes IT usage policies in helping to promote and manage health. In this scenario, the Telehealth Center of Federal University of Pernambuco (NUTES-UFPE) provides telehealth services to the population through information systems that support the assistance and diagnose of patients, as well as the continuous education for health professionals. In this scenario, continuous evaluation procedures, compliance with government regulations and industry standards, evolutions in the business domain, stakeholders’ needs, new technologies and economic factors related to globalization pressure are examples of aspects that can foster changes on business processes. The impact of this changing environment is the variation of business processes, in a phenomenon called business process variability. The objective of this research is, therefore, to aggregate relevant studies which address the context of this phenomenon. The studies’ selection was accomplished through a Systematic Literature Review, conducting automatic searches in a set of digital libraries and manual searches in leading conferences and journals in the fields of Business Process Management and Computer Science. In total, 13619 studies were retrieved, from which 80 were classified as relevant. This set of primary studies acted as sources of evidence for answering 3 research questions and their respectively subquestions. From the analysis performed, the study concludes that despite efforts in the literature for managing business process variability, this concept is not clear and well delimited, involving additional aspects and, hence, lacking a structured taxonomy. Contributions of the current work are: to provide valuable information with respect to the main notions in business process variability field and, possible types and inductors of process variability;to identify the main challenges faced by organizations when dealing with this phenomenon and; to examine a set of proposals for process variability management, investigating the existence of tool support and empirical evaluations carried out.

Eliminating Variability Through Standardization / Eliminering av variabilitet genom standardisering

Meyer, Peter, Åström, Rasmus January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to review and investigate processes by analyzing what impact logistics and handling had on the transportation units, with the goal of proposing a solution strategy for how to prevent and reduce the breakage of these units. By creating and applying standards and guidelines, specified in this thesis there is the opportunity to greatly reduce: cost of costumer claims, ecological impact and risk of injuries. To achieve this: mapping of the processes and locating risk factors, archival studies, literature, Ishikawa mapping, a case study and interviews were performed. With the methods used, two main problem areas were found and investigated. Analyzing these two problem areas lead to the recommendations of standards and application of Standardized work.

Supporting Pathology Process Management with Real-time Business Intelligence

Li, Wei Chen January 2016 (has links)
[Context] Clinical pathology is a medical specialty that uses laboratory analysis of tissues and fluids to diagnose diseases. As emerging methodologies and technologies extend their realm to anatomical pathology, pathology facilities are faced with new challenges related to the increasing volume and complexity of patient cases in their work processes. [Problem] Existing tools that monitor process data show limitations in supporting pathology process management. They lack the capability of identifying emerging process bottlenecks in a real-time manner, and this prevents facility managers from conducting corrective actions proactively. [Methodology] Applying the Design Science Research Methodology, this thesis proposes and builds a Business Intelligence solution that provides visual analysis and real-time monitoring functions to support pathology process management. A usability study with expert participants from the Eastern Ontario Regional Laboratory Association was conducted to validate this solution. [Results] The proposed solution meets the requirements of the experts and can provide efficient, flexible, and multi-tenancy support to users in the context of their daily professional activities.

Zavádění procesního řízení v praxi / Implementing Business Process Management in Use

Bosák, Martin January 2009 (has links)
This thesis attends to process management approach. It describes reasons and circumstances that led organizations to focus on this area. Especially the unsuitable quality of managing and opportunities for better match of values and processes are important. Fashion wave also plays an important role, which gives thanks to words such a process and models are inflected quite often. Approaches to the implementation of process management are various. The fundamental difference between them is the form of attitude to chase. Some of them require radical changes in processes and wants to build them from nothing. The others prefer to gradually improve them step by step. The most common variant, which usually best fit, is to mix these approaches. The tools and methodologies are needed for implementation also. One such tool is the Metastorm BPM. The outcome of the project, which is described in practical section of this thesis, was created with its utilization. Project goal was to implement process management for project management. Use of Metastorm BPM tool allowed simple implementation of required processes, including management and user functionality.
