In secondpart I described the proces of concrete order in the company MABA Prefa. The order has been assessed on the basis of obtained data. The company made profit.

Financování neziskových organizací v oblasti ochrany spotřebitele / Funding of non-profit- organizations in the area of consumer protection

This diploma thesis deals with analysis of forms of financing of a specific non-profit organisation in the field of consumer protection and preparation of proposal for improvement including its economic assessment. The work is focused on the TEST Civil Consumers? Association (TEST CCA). The first part of the thesis is made up of literary research. In terms of the actual thesis, working hypotheses were first determined, which were subsequently assessed on the basis of data gained during an interview with the Vice Chairman of the administrative board of TEST CCA, Mgr. Karel Pavlík, MBA, or on the basis of information gained from approx. 200 respondents by means of enquiry. When formulating proposals for improvement, I above all concentrated on the possibility of gaining further subscribers to the dTest magazine, which is closely related to strengthening of the financial independence of the association. I recommended holding a presentation of TEST CAA in shopping centres in individual regional cities in the Czech Republic. In my opinion, it would also be of benefit to publish adverts in the press.

Análise econométrica da taxa de lucro dos Estados Unidos entre 1963 e 2008 : aplicações de modelos VEC

O objetivo geral desta dissertação é compreender como as variações da Taxa de Lucro dos EUA foram determinadas entre 1963 e 2008. Por isso faz-se necessário identificar as variáveis que afetam a Taxa de Lucro, buscar dados de variáveis proxy e especificar e estimar modelos econométricos. Por constatar-se causalidade mútua entre a Taxa de Lucro e as variáveis que a afetam, optou-se por estimar modelos VEC, os quais permitiram analisar os coeficientes de curto e longo prazo, o tempo necessário para ajuste completo das variáveis e as funções impulso-resposta para compreender as relações da Taxa de Lucro com as variáveis que a afetam. Os resultados do modelo VEC são novos em relação a Basu (2010), Shaikh (1991, 2010), Cockshott, Cottrell e Taraddinov (2009), e Duménil e Lévy (1993, 2002). / The overall objective of this dissertation is to understand the determinants of variations in the U.S. economy Rate of Profit between 1963 and 2008. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the variables that affect the rate of profit, select appropriate proxies, and specify and estimate suitable econometric models. Due to mutual causality between the profit rate and the variables that affect it, VEC models were estimated. This allowed analyzing the short and long term coefficients, the time required for full adjustment of the variables, and functions impulse-response in order to understand the relationships involving the Profit Rate and the variables that influence it. With basis on VEC models, some conclusions were inferred about the variations in the rate of profit, and these results were compared with known authors. In general, the results of VEC are new compared to Basu (2010), Shaikh (1991, 2010), Cockshott, Cottrell and Taraddinov (2009), and Duménil and Lévy (1993, 2002).

Aquecimento global, investimentos e impactos agrícolas / Global warming, investments and agricultural impacts

Para medir o impacto de mudanças climáticas, acompanhadas variações do investimento agrícola, sobre a atividade agrícola brasileira, foram estimadas conjuntamente funções de receita e de custo de produtos e insumos agrícolas. Estas foram derivadas de uma função de lucro restrita, condicional a variáveis de clima e investimento. A pesquisa inova pela metodologia, diferente das demais empregadas anteriormente para o caso brasileiro, pela maior precisão dos dados de clima e pela inclusão do investimento agrícola como variável de mitigação dos efeitos gerados pela variação climática. Os resultados mostraram uma redução da lucratividade agrícola para o Brasil com o aumento da temperatura e precipitação no longo prazo, apesar de variarem conforme regiões. Saíram beneficiadas regiões mais ricas, em detrimento das mais pobres, cuja maior parte da produção agrícola é voltada para a subsistência. O investimento agrícola atuou como redutor desta tendência, de crescimento da desigualdade agrícola, ajudando a reverter apenas parcialmente o efeito do aquecimento. / To measure the impact of climate changes along with changes in agricultural investments in Brazil\'s agricultural sector, this paper jointly estimates revenue functions for the outputs and cost functions for the inputs. These equations were derived from a restricted profit function conditional to climate and investment variables. The paper innovates by using the profit function approach to study Brazils agricultural sector. It also brings more precise data and adds investment as a relevant variable in the model. Results show a reduction in profitability as temperature and precipitation grow, but they are not homogeneous amongst the different regions. Richer regions seem to do better than the poor ones, which have a large part of their production focused on subsistence. Investment seems to act as a counterbalance to this trend of increasing agricultural inequality, partially reverting the global warming effects.

The adoption of employee share ownership plans (ESOPs) in Nigeria

This study investigated the factors that influence the adoption of ESOPs in Nigeria. Furthermore, the study investigated the influence of the adoption of ESOPs on organisational performance, employee retention and employee commitment. The study results reveal that trade union responsiveness, reforms, awareness of employee benefits and taxation implication positively influence the adoption of ESOPs based on transparency. The results in this study further reveal that trade union responsiveness, takeovers, reforms, awareness of employee benefits and taxation implication effectively influence the adoption of ESOPs based on two-way communication. In addition, the study results reveal that trade union responsiveness, takeovers, reforms, awareness of employee benefits and trust positively influence the adoption of ESOPs based on empowerment. The study further reveals that adoption of ESOPs based on transparency, two-way communication and empowerment leads to organisational performance, employee retention and employee commitment. This study, being the first of its kind in Nigeria, filled the gap that existed in the Nigerian literature in respect of the awareness and adoption of ESOPs. This study provides literature and theoretical model that can be used as a foundation by organisations and the government to start up the adoption of ESOPs. This study showed that ESOPs is beneficial to boost the economy, enhance desired organisational outcomes (organisational performance, employee retention and employee commitment) and meet the financial and retirement needs of employees. However, for organisations and employees to enjoy the full benefits of ESOPs, underlying forces such as, trade union responsiveness, takeovers, reforms, awareness of employee benefits, trusts and taxation implication must be taken into account. Furthermore, the adoption, implementation and operations of ESOPs will be successful management, trade union leaders and employees utilise strategies such as, transparency, two-way communication and empowerment.

Population Dynamics and Vulnerability Reduction: The Role of Non-Profit Organizations Following the 2011 Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand

With the adoption of neo-liberal policies and the decline in social welfare, non-profit organizations have been increasingly integrated into public service provision. Such changes raise questions regarding formal policies and access for marginalized populations, no more so than in disaster settings as formal disaster management of sexual health services are still vague. This study identifies the role of non-profit organizations in providing public health and social services through the lens of sexual health commitments following the September 2010 Darfield Earthquake and subsequent major aftershock during February 2011 in Christchurch, New Zealand. The primary goals of this study were three fold, to delineate i) aspects of non-profit organizational culture and agency connections that contributed to the resilience of non-profit organizations by maintaining and adapting access to sexual health and associated wellbeing services over the transition from response to recovery ii) integration pathways of non-profit organizations into disaster risk reduction and iii) appropriate geographic representations of temporal vulnerability change impacting the commitments of non-profit organizations. Mixed methods were used for this study. Data were collected over a two-year period between 2013 and 2015. Data collection techniques included: i) archival research ii) surveys iii) focus groups and iv) semi-structured interviews. Quantitative data were derived from census records and qualitative data from surveys, focus groups, and interviews with non-profit and civil society practitioners. A total of thirty-six non-profit organizations, civil society partners, and agency connections participated. Results show that sexual health needs of youth, families, and migrants arriving for the rebuild, fluctuated following the earthquakes. Sexual health non-profits absorbed the shifting demands for services and supplies by leveraging government partnerships and non-profit agency connections to account for fluctuations in presenting populations, adjust service delivery methods and continue advocacy campaigns. Also, as a result of functional redundancy amongst migrant support groups and their respective agency connections, strategies of long-term advocacy commitment, co-location, and relationship building with diverse ethnic groups benefitted migrants and refugees in maintaining or accessing adequate health and wellbeing support into the recovery phase. By developing programs to increase public awareness of resources, creating engagement opportunities in vacant spaces, and bringing a united voice to authorities, non-profits captured increased social cohesion to address emergent and compounded vulnerabilities of marginalized populations. However, as the recovery progressed, some collective energy was lost. Findings indicate that non-profits operating in Christchurch prior to the earthquakes with flexible organizational structures and those that emerged after were most successful in the emergency response and early recovery. The ability to capture social cohesion resulting from the shared experience of the earthquakes and build bridges with non-profit connections or incorporate emergent populations into service delivery facilitated successful operations into recovery. Non-profits that partnered with the government were better suited for long-term recovery, when interagency collaboration returned to a more competitive state and reliance on co-production of services was reestablished as the preferred method of service delivery, based on their capacity to maintain and build linkages with civil society partners. This research adds to disaster literature and the understanding of organizational behaviors by suggesting appropriate means to assess the potential resilience of non-profit organizations post-disaster. Further, pathways of integration with disaster management are identified for various types of non-profits that contribute to sexual health and related community support services. Methods used to identify vulnerabilities of wellbeing focused non-profit organizations and model integration of culturally appropriate service delivery options into recovery planning and disaster mitigation can be applied to other high-income nations with burgeoning non-profit sectors that experience variety of hazards, in particular on the United States’ West Coast as the health care debate in the United States continues.

A Different Perspective on the Debate Between Nonprofit and For-Profit Microfinance Organizations

Microfinance for-profit organizations flooded the market in the early 2000's when microcredit demonstrated profitability. Ever since, an intense debate arose contesting the morality of profiting from the poor. Many for-profit micro finance institutions were accused of predatory lending through high interest rates and aggressive marketing and payment collection. In this paper, I examine the validity of the arguments for and against for-profits by extensively comparing the different target audiences of the charity sector and the private sector and the main arguments of each side. I conclude that, although the ability to serve the poor is compromised by profit motives, for-profit micro finance organizations are serving a different market - and a much needed one - than nonprofits. Therefore, for-profits serve a function that, as of right now, nonprofits are not able to.

Topic of the diploma thesis is the position of nonprofit and contributory organizations in czech formal and informal education. The theoretical part describes the position of nonprofit organizations in formal and informal education. Attention is paid to definition of the terms non-profit and contributory organization, the concepts of formal and informal education and the laws regulating the action of non-profit and contributory organizations in the field of education in the Czech Republic. In the practical part, the qualitative survey is realized, focused on the position of nonprofit and contributory organizations in the field of formal and informal education from the perspective of their directors. The research based of semi- structured interviews with directors of the nonprofit organizations finds what positive an negative effects influences activities of the stated organizations in formal and informal education and how is the cooperation with state authorities. Among the most important findings is, that the nonprofit sector is fully established in both formal and informal education in the Czech Republic, the availibility of grants is good, although the administrative burden is very high.
