Långvariga relationer : En studie som undersöker långvariga relationers betydelse för samarbetsformerna i evenemangsprojekt / Long-lasting relationships : A study examining long-lasting relationships significance to the forms of collaboration in event projects

Urbain Sanz, Sara, Rezayi, Mostafa, Wikner, Elin January 2020 (has links)
This study has examined what significance a long-lasting relationship has for the forms of collaboration between Swedish event companies and suppliers in event projects. This study executed semi-structured interviews with event companies to accomplish a deeper understanding. Six successful event companies were interviewed, the companies had either been nominated or won the industry competition called Gyllene Hjulet. To acquire an understanding of the significance of a long-lasting relationship for the form of collaboration, theories about collaboration were included as the foundation for the theoretical frame of reference. The form of collaboration was analysed with the five collaboration variables: intention, symmetry of benefits, interaction, engagement, and trust. Theories about the project life cycle and long-lasting relationships are also included in the study’s theoretical frame of reference. The five collaboration variables are investigated through the phases in the project life cycle: initiation, planning and closure with the intention to study collaboration before and after the execution phase of the event projects. Theories about long-lasting relationships are mainly applied to define the length of the relationship, as well as what are its benefits. The study finally concluded that the long-lasting relationships affect the forms of collaboration by making the work process more efficient and the quality of the delivery higher. The result investigates that long-lasting relationships have a positive impact on the forms of collaboration, and it benefits both the event companies and the suppliers. Identifying success factors in a public sector project : an empirical study of the Malaysian School Computer Laboratory Project

Johari, Mohamad Farazi January 2010 (has links)
The public sector project is particularly a demanding undertaking, with the requirement to meet diverse demands. Despite huge investment, public sector projects tend to complete behind schedule, indicating shortfall in various project factors. This research was grounded on an empirical study of the Malaysian School Computer Laboratory Programme (SCLP) to examine the project success factors throughout the project life span. The extensive SCLP was divided into six zones, spanning urban and remote environment throughout Malaysia. Its implementation was staggered into several phases, two of which covered in this study, namely phase-1 and phase-2. This research aimed to fulfil three research objectives: i) to discover the project management’s success factors; ii) to determine the product’s success factors that encompass various stakeholders; and iii) to identify project characteristics that influenced the project success. A comprehensive review of literature suggested 20 relevant project success factors to be investigated. Those factors were examined using a newly constructed framework, whereby the project life span was clustered into two segments – project process and project product. The study adopted a qualitative paradigm; nevertheless it utilised both qualitative and quantitative approaches of data collection, which were triangulated to provide a wider scope of interpretation. The quantitative data for a total sample of 357 projects were sourced from Likert-type questionnaire and secondary resources, while qualitative data were sourced from combination of semi-structured interviews with 38 respondents representing 10 groups of project stakeholders and secondary data from various documents. The results demonstrated that the project management of the SCLP was improperly administered. Out of five success factors investigated to verify the project conceptualization, only two namely project goal and project scope, were reasonably defined. One factor, stakeholder participation, was inadequately defined, while the other two factors, resources assessment and risk management, were not even taken into consideration by the project decision-making committee. There were also some deficiencies in the project planning. From six success factors tested, two were acceptably planned, i.e. project design and project costing. The other four, namely distribution of authority and responsibility, contractor selection, project scheduling, and project documentation, were insufficiently planned. The inadequacies in the project definition and project planning were reflected in the project execution as only two out of six factors, i.e. administrator effectiveness and communication, contributed to the project success. The other four, known as supervising team efficiency, contractor competence, integrity and external influences were negatively affected the project. Despite some deficiencies in the project management, the outcome or product of the project was found to be successful particularly in the judgement of the target group, the users; they were satisfied with the SCLP deliverables. They also appreciated the benefit from the utilisation of the products, which greatly changed the approaches of teaching and learning. However, the SCLP completion time was not as successful as planned, believed to be a result of unrealistic scheduling during the planning stage. Nonetheless, there were cases of genuine delays due to various factors in the earlier stages. The results also suggested that some of the project success factors were particularly influenced by project characteristics explored in this studied. The influences of these two characteristics, geographical zone and the project award method, could be seen in both the project management process and the project’s product. Overall, this thesis contributed to extant body of knowledge in various ways. A newly constructed research framework, with the concept of duality of project process and product, added depth to the longstanding idea of project success and expanded premises of the existing theory. This framework offered a better platform to identify when particular factors take place and affect the project along the project life span. This study also added a new insight to the Malaysian public sector projects management strategies in particular and to the other countries with the similar situations in general. A new paradigm in project decision-making by adopting a bottom-up concept rather than traditionally top-down alone during the project conceptualisation and a more realistic resource-based approach during the project planning, is suggested. In addition, this research proposed an ideal way to deal with various critical success factors in a huge programme.

An environmental management framework for DWAF related projects / Valerie du Plessis

Du Plessis, Valerie January 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to revise the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry's (DWAF's) current Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) procedure and to develop an Environmental Management Framework (EMF), so as to ensure that the environment is considered in a structured, formal manner at each decision-making stage of the projects development business process. The proposed EMF provides process diagrams that align the IBM principles, the environmental assessment and management tools, and the engineering business process with the project life cycle approach for DWAF's water sector functional areas. Key decision-making points are introduced to the business process to ensure that all the specific requirements have been met before continuing to the next engineering stage of the business life cycle. Auditing nodes were identified within the life cycle approach and complement the decision-making points and strengthen the evaluation of environmental compliance and performance. These process diagrams is designed to prompt development planners and implementers to consider the environment at all stages of the business life cycle and practice sound environmental management. The EMF is based on international best practice and follows the Deming model philosophy as well as principles and elements of an environmental management system. The EMF must be an integral part in the way the department conduct its business and not seen as an ad hoc function and the duties of the environmental officer. To conclude, the EMF is the building block and interim management plan for an appropriate environmental management system in the future and the first step towards business excellence for the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry. / Thesis (M.Sc. Les modalités de mobilisation d'une compétence improvisationnelle au sein d'une équipe projet / Detailed rules for the mobilization of improvisational competences within a project team

Vignikin, Aristide Kohovi 03 December 2013 (has links)
Many projects fail because of poor management of unpredictable situations. Given the growing interest in this subject among both project managers and researchers, our goal is to seek innovative solutions to capture the unexpected. The literature review is grounded on project management, and the concepts of organizational improvisation and quality teamwork. We ask the following research question : what are the managerial devices to develop within project teams in order to manage effectively the ability to improvise in innovative projects ? The initial question is divided into two sub-research questions : What are the project managament situations favoring improvisation and how do they evolve during the project life span ? What is the impact of the mobilization of improvidational devices by the project team members on project performance ? To answer these questions, we rely on quantitative analysis of an international database on managerial project situations to answer on the first research question, and on a survey of project teams of students achieving tutored projects, in response to the second research question. Among the main results, this thesis identifies and characterizes « improvisational situations » within project teams. It also analyzes how they evolve during the project life span. It also examines the relationship between collective improvisation and performance in project teams, and it shows that the teamwork quality plays an intermediary role. Finally, the role played by several managerial devices is highlighted. Depending on the type of performance, economic or social, two management models of improvisation in project trams are available. These results are discussed and the contributions of our research as well as its limitations and the perspectives of research are developed in conclusion.

Fúze společností z hlediska projektu migrace dat / Merger in terms of data migration project

Worsch, Filip January 2013 (has links)
This work deals with the data migration during the process of mergers and acquisitions. The first, theoretical part, defines the general terms concerning mergers and acquisitions, further mentions motives that may lead to it, and the basic stages of the implementation process of mergers and acquisitions. This section also presents brief information on selected methodologies of project management, of which principles are used in the next part, dealing with data migration projects. The aim of this work is to develop a methodology for project management of data migration in mergers and acquisitions process, which may serve as a guide for merging companies and data migration teams. In the methodology there are specified activities and defined procedures to be followed in the various stages of the project life cycle. To each activity the way and necessary prerequisites for carrying out are specified. The methodology also describes common problems with which the data migration project in carrying out the action may be faced and which could threaten the success of the project or its part. For each potential problem a possible way to eliminate it is added, or solutions.
