Présumé, Romanne 15 April 2013 (has links)

Marcher, penser, écrire : la Promenade littéraire de La Mothe Le Vayer à Rousseau / Walking, Thinking & Writing : literary Promenades from La Mothe Le Vayer to Rousseau

Fabre, Juliette 30 November 2019 (has links)
From the end of the seventeenth century to the eighteenth century, promenades took various forms: from concrete places such as walkways, to social gatherings, promenades also refer to a metaphor of writing itself: a supple form of writing relying on paradoxical aims. Following the patterns of the scholarly dialogue or the society conversation, promenades allowed the inclusion of embedded pieces and miscellaneous fragments. Their closeness to satires, novels or periodicals made them appear as a cradle for articulating ideas and searching for modes of expression, for both famous authors such as Diderot and Rousseau and less known or even anonymous ones. This study focuses on a selection of texts entitled Promenade and focuses on the choice of a resolutely open pattern that combines freedom and entertainment, lightness and depth. Turning from promenades to solitary walkers, literary promenades evolved during the eighteenth century towards the expression of the self - reveries replaced dialogues and allowed walkers to explore new landscapes.

Lyf [TAAL] Sport + Development

Van Wyk, Johannes Francois 27 November 2012 (has links)
This project is a response to the author's passion for sport and his curiosity about the architectural process that is necessary to understand and facilitate the inter-relation of body, mind and soul. The potential influence of physical exercise; its correlation with the metaphysical aspects of the individual and how its influence spills over into the larger context of society is investigated. This dissertation attempts to form an architectural response that is indigenous to the local population, the climate and the existing urban condition and ranges from a thorough understanding of the community to the effective contribution that architecture can offer, based on the concept of ‘Sport for Development’ programmes in South Africa. The primary objective of the architectural response is to amplify the potential of sport as a means to peace building and self-actualization within a society that suffers from the effects of crime and violence. Although popular culture believes in the positive potential of sport, Ramon Spaaij identifies factors and conditions that must be met if the positive value of sport is to be enjoyed. The dissertation incorporates these factors and conditions into a multipurpose 'Sport for Development' community complex. This complex aims to augment the existing sport for development programmes in South Africa and serve as a prototype for future sport for development centres that ultimately includes everyone in the process of reconciliation. / Dissertation (MArch(Prof))--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Architecture / unrestricted

THE WALKABLE CITY: ALONG THE EDGE OF STOCKHOLM. Developing the edge to reconnect a former industrial site to the city

Albertini, Vittoria January 2014 (has links)
Stockholm is an archipelago of islands connected by water that historically has been an important resource for the city and for the industries, which found an easy access for ships and therefore they settled on strategic positions along the edges. This thesis investigates the topics of water, industrial heritage and edges in the city of Stockholm: these aspects are strong in their individual identity but they also interact in a powerful and interesting way. This work intervenes where this pattern is still visible -due to the presence of water and industries- but not accessible because it lacks the third element of connection with the city. The aim is therefore to investigate strategies that increase and reconnect the potential of these aspects that got disconnected through time. To obtain accessibility and usability, the edge was transformed and redefined to enhance the experience of walking along it. An analysis was carried out and a proposal was designed for the site of Lövholmen, which has these characteristics -the water, a strong industrial heritage and proximity to the city- that are now disconnected. The opening of the edge and possibilities of walking will transform and reconnect the site - and the richness in it- with the city of Stockholm.

Patry, Véronique 11 1900 (has links)
The increase in the cost of housing is a phenomenon observed in several Canadian cities and Montreal is no exception. Even within the Quebec metropolis, this growth is taking place in certain boroughs such as Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie. Indeed, the increase in the cost of housing is significant and leads researchers to speak of residential gentrification. This study deepens the reflection of this process of socio-economic transformation of the district by integrating the commercial aspect of gentrification. Indeed, for several years now, the commercial development of Promenade Masson has been oriented towards offering better quality, more refined and more upscale products. Through various initiatives, merchants are even going so far as to offer a shopping experience to the consumer to create an emotional link between the consumer and the business. This is what leads us to consider the food landscape as a dynamic and complex space that is in keeping with David Harvey's tripartite conception of space. Thus, we approach the food landscape by considering its absolute, relative and relational dimensions. Following this contextualization, we question the link between commercial gentrification and the evolution of the food landscape. This research project also identifies 1) the social, demographic and economic evolution of the neighbourhood between 1996 and 2016; 2) the evolution of the food stores on Promenade Masson since the 2000s and 3) the mobilization of the food landscape by consumers.

Nová Jižní čtvrť a její propojení s řekou Svratkou / New South District and its Connection to Svratka

Leitmannová, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
The Master‘s thesis deals with the processing of the architectural study of the city block in the planned new South Quarter near the Svratka River. The project builds on a pre-diploma project whose aim was to create a territorial urban study for part of this neighbourhood. It was a section between the New Railway Station, Opuštěná Street and the existing Zvonařka Bus Station following the river embankment. The subject of the master‘s thesis is a block from this newly designed urban structure, situated in very close proximity to the river. he project focuses on the block as a whole. It conceptually solves the links between newly designed buildings, individual operations, and functions. It deals with the relationship between streets, river and buildings. Great attention is paid to the maximum use of greenery in the form of extensive and intensive roofs, internal blocks, private gardens in the inner block, as well as private front gardens. The concept seeks to provide a wide range of options and differences. This creates a closed city block that is open and responding to the river with its shape, that consists of free parts. The first / majority are the street lining. It is mostly 5-storey. Corner buildings are raised by one floor, allowing roof intensive gardens to be created. It includes a diverse range of residential units overlooking the river. Housing prevails here. On the ground floor there are a few commercial units and work-and-live. The work-and-live area also includes a private front yard on the street and private raised gardens in the interior. The second part consists of two objects extended over the pedestrian shopping promenade. One of the objects was subject of my detailed architectural study. There are the most luxurious apartments, ground floor showroom and concept store. The third part consists of a lowered 2-storey embankment building, which by its height provides the rest of the block with a beautiful, unimpeded view of the river. It covers the

Termální lázně Yverdon, pět smyslů v architektuře / Thermal baths Yverdon, five senses in architecture

Lišková, Nela January 2015 (has links)
The spa area is located in western Switzerland in Yverdon-les-Bains, which extends along the southern shores of Lake Neuchâtel. The aim was to replace the current Spa complex which capacity and operationally not meet today's requirements and also to increase capacity accommodation in the form of hotel. New spa complex is placed as solitaire in the area between the spa parks which creates fluent transition between them. Spa function is divided into multiple objects that have their own character, but which in their complexity creates one house. These objects "float" on the surface of the water, unites them and divides its operations at the same time.

A Promenade for Isolation

Bersch, Danielle 30 July 2013 (has links)
This building emerges as a solitary work from obscurity. Its form is a composition of disjointed rooms connected by common themes: frontality, obscurity, artifice, and seclusion.

In the first part, the plan appears as a map of a promenade which is the main ordering device of the building structure.

In the second part, the internal spaces are presented as isolated from each other as is the building from any external reference.

In the sections, which constitute the third part, the building appears as layered facades emerging from planes of strata. / Master of Architecture
