Previous issue date: 2017-03-20 / Background: Personality traits are an important construct in the study of obesity, both to understand its influence on this condition?s origins and to evaluate its role in responses to treatments, such as bariatric surgery. The main models used so far, are based on dimensions of normal personality traits, bringing conflicting results. Hence, there is a demand for instruments that can give more accuracy and improve the study of the personality in this population capturing more dysfunctional traits. In a special section for emerging measures, the new edition of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Psychiatric Disorders (DSM-5) proposed an instrument to measure personality mal-adaptive traits: the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5), whose psychometric properties have been tested in several samples and localities. Despite promising results, PID-5 has not yet been evaluated psychometrically in other clinical populations where the "personality" construct can have an important impact (in etiologic and prognostic ways), such as obese candidates for bariatric surgery.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the psychometric properties of the PID-5 in the evaluation of pathological personality traits in obese candidates for bariatric surgery. This constitutes a fundamental step to assess whether the instrument keeps its original technical features allowing its use and correct interpretation in this population.
Setting: Centro da Obesidade e S?ndrome Metab?lica, Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica do Rio Grande do Sul (COM-PUCRS), Porto Alegre, Brazil
Methods: Cross-sectional study involving 312 medical records of patients who applied for bariatric surgery. We collected demographic data and scores from instruments applied in the psychiatric evaluation routine. The reliability of facets and domains was evaluated through internal consistency indices and the unidimensionality of facets was verified through factorial methods. Exploratory Structural Equations Modeling was performed to test the higher order structure of the model. To investigate convergent validity, linear correlations were calculated between PID-5 scales and instrument scores of correlated constructs (depression, anxiety, defensive styles, and quality of life). Given the characteristic of the sample, we also correlated PID-5 with body mass index (BMI) and binge eating symptoms. Data was analyzed by Factor and Mplus softwares. Results: Facets were unidimensional, with the exception of Risk Taking, better explained by two factors. We replicate the higher order structure of 5 factors of the original model, with good congruence coefficients. The internal consistency of the domains was satisfactory, however, some facets showed fragility of internal consistency, mainly when calculated with more robust methods. In general, the domains and facets correlated as expected with correlated constructs.
Conclusion: This study found evidences of adequate psychometric properties of PID-5 for a sample of obese candidates for bariatric surgery. Our results indicate that the instrument is appropriate to be applied in this population, consistently evaluating personality domains and facets of the DSM-5 model. More studies in other centers are needed to replicate and reinforce our findings.
Local: Centro da Obesidade e S?ndrome Metab?lica, Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica do Rio Grande do Sul (COM-PUCRS), Porto Alegre, Brasil

Question?rio Estruturado (dados sociodemogr?ficos e gestacionais); 2) Cambridge Worry
Scale (CWS); 3) Perfil Psicossocial no Pr?-natal (PPP); e a Escala de Apoio Social. O
do software SPSS (21.0).
A Dimens?o Te?rica apresentou concord?ncia
substancial (k=0,7164). A Etapa 2 refere-se ? coleta de dados de 420 gestantes. A m?dia
apresentou 5 fatores, a maioria organizados conforme a original.
A escala presentou
The Cambridge Worry Scale is a multidimensional scale created to evaluate the type and
intensity of pregnant worry with good rates of validation and trustworthiness. This
research?s main objective was to adapt and analyze the psychometric evidences of the
Cambridge Worry Scale, which evaluates maternal worries on pregnant women. The
specific goals were: a) adapt the semantic items in the Cambridge Worry Scale from
English to Brazilian Portuguese b) evaluate content validation evidences through the
content validation coefficient (stage 1); c) verify validation and trustworthiness elements
of the Cambridge Worry Scale through psychometric evaluation procedures (stage 2).
Transcultural adaptation of transversal cut done with 420 pregnant women from the age
of 13 assisted in Basic Health Units in Natal (RN). It was used as instruments: 1)
Structured quiz (socio-demographic and pregnancy data); 2) Cambridge Worry Scale
(CWS); 3) Psychosocial profile in pre-birth (PPP); and the social support scale. The
project fulfilled the ethnic aspects having a favorable juridical decision (572.558/ 2014)
from the UFRN?s Ethics and Research Committee. The data analysis were done with the
help from the SPSS (21.0) Software. On stage 1 descriptive statistics were done
(frequency and validation coefficient of the content - CVC) and Kappa?s Fleiss calculus.
On stage 2 we used the exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis, t test, ANOVA,
Pearson Correlation; and Cronbach?s alpha calculus. On stage 1 we had the formal
authorization from the authors; preparation and consolidation of the preliminary version;
and content validation about the Clarity criteria, Practical Pertinence and Theoretical
Relevance, which CVCs were higher than 0.8 in most of the items. The Theoretical
Dimension presented a substantial conformity (k=0.7164). Stage 2 refers to the collection
of data from 420 pregnant women. The average age was 26.85 (?8,93) years old, most
of them presented low education and income level, they were house wives, catholic, and
married. Women with multiple kids predominated, low abortion rate history and there
weren?t a pregnancy planning. The exploratory factorial analysis with Oblimin rotation,
followed by the confirmatory factorial analysis for the 16 items and 13 items (reduced),
pointed good validity indicators and trustworthiness for both models. There were
differences in the factorial structure of both models. The 16 items presented 5 factors,
most of them organized according to the original. The reduced version showed itself
similar to the original model, and that?s why its usage is indicated. The scale presented
convergent validation, divergent and confirmed construct by the correlation between
CWS factors and stress scores (convergent), self-esteem and social support (divergent).
The criteria validation was observed through the difference of the total score and factors
of the CWS amongst pregnant groups (first pregnancy/multi pregnancy; teenagers and
adults young/late). The evaluated trustworthiness through the internal consistency of the
scale was good (valor ?=0.825) as so did the factors (?=0.64-0.74). The psychometric
results regarding the validity and trustworthiness of the Brazilian version of the CWS
points out that the scale is appropriate to use. It?s a useful and easy to apply instrument
that can be used by researchers and clinics to evaluate pregnant worries.

Previous issue date: 2007-02-12 / Science in general needs each time more instruments that can supply measurable and replicable objectives. The objectives of this research were to elaborate and to validate a scale of occupational stressors for employees of the production line, carrying out content validation, construct validation, convergent validation, precision evaluation and scale normalization. 214 employees were the participants of the research all of whom work in the production line of several companies of the Alto do Tiete region. The sample was divided in three groups (G1, G2, and G3). G1 was composed of 10 employees for a pilot study, G2 was composed of 214 employees for the validation of the scale and G3 was composed of 40 employees who participated in the retest. The materials used were a list with 41 stressors in the initial version of the scale, the scale of occupational stressors with 36 items already after the pilot study was carried out, the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) for the convergent validity and the Inventory of Symptoms of Stress Lipp (ISSL). Also, it made use of terms of consent and authorizations whenever necessary. The results demonstrated high and positive correlations in the precision of the scale (p < 0.01), tendency to the convergent validity (p < 0.01) validity of concurrent criterion (p<0.01 and p < 0,005). In relation to the normalization the results showed no evidence of significant differences between age and level of schooling and the scores of the scale of stressors. This demonstrates the universality and practicity, important in system of numerical counting. It was concluded that the scale of occupational stressors of production line presented high coefficient of precision, internal consistency e temporal stability and it was possible to reach the objective of content validity, construct and convergent validity, demonstrating to be capable of identifying occupational stressors of production line. The normalization needs new studies to be carried out with the scale, increasing the number of participants or carrying out a study with random sample, so that bias concerning norms and standardization does not occur.

Previous issue date: 2015-03-27 / Introduction: worldwide, is recognized the importance of cross-cultural studies to study comprehensive, multi-faceted and multi-causal phenomena, such as interpersonal violence among young people, considering the impact of the indicators of this research in the exchange of knowledge and actions for the prevention and control of factors risk and vulnerabilities. It is known that this type of research requires the use of validated research instruments in order to ensure its quality and therefore the results obtained after its application in other studies. The analysis of the psychometric properties, reliability and validity of an instrument is critical to ensure that it is calibrated to measure the phenomenon to which it is proposed. Objective: to determine the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the inventory "Parcours des Jeunes Amourex" - Loving Trail Youth - PAJ through construct validation and reliability analysis. Methodology: methodological study which deals with the construct validity and reliability (psychometric analyzes) of the Brazilian version of the PAJ, executed in the period 2013-2015, using a convenience sample of 380 adolescents and young adults in the age groups 14-24 years enrolled in public schools in Feira de Santana, Bahia-Brazil. This research represents the second stage of cultural adaptation process and inventory of content validation, carried out from 2011-2013, which led to the national version (adapted and validated). The original inventory and the national version consist of 64 questions in different formats (dichotomous, open, scales). And reliability analysis was used examining the internal consistency of the questions, by calculating the Cronbach's alpha coefficient, considering the satisfactory value> 0.6; the factorability of the questions was evaluated by the test Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy (KMO), with appropriate value> 0.5; the construct validity was verified through exploratory factor analysis using the principal component analysis technique, with varimax rotation, using the latent root criterion to define the number of factors to be extracted. Results: The data showed that the adapted version of the PAJ has construct validity of evidence, since the measures proposed construct and has adequate reliability coefficients, confirming the internal consistency of the scale. It can be said then that the inventory showed good psychometric parameters allowing its applicability in national studies that seek to investigate violence among young couples and factors related to family life and friends. Conclusions: This research contributes to the appropriateness and applicability of an inventory that assesses multiple dimensions of loving violence in youth, encouraging new studies, exchange of information between different contexts, and can support public policies and programs that lead to the prevention and cure cycle intergenerational victimization and aggression between present and future generations.
