Examining the Quick Spell Test : how does it relate to phonological processes, naming speed, orthographic processing, and reading?Lai, Sandy S.Y. 29 August 2007 (has links)
I examined the relationship between performance on the Quick Spell Test
(Bowers, 1996) and reading ability in an archival sample of Grade 3 (N = 192) and Grade
4 (N = 149) children from Kirby, Parrila, Deacon, and Wade-Woolley’s (2004-2007)
longitudinal study. The data included a battery of phonological awareness, naming speed,
phonological decoding, orthographic processing, and reading ability measures
administered in both grades. I found that the Quick Spell Test was a good concurrent
predictor of reading ability in Grade 3, but not a good longitudinal predictor.
Orthographic processing and phonological decoding were consistently good predictors of
the relationships between the Quick Spell Test and reading ability and of the difference in
variance between the Quick Spell Test subscales. / Thesis (Master, Education) -- Queen's University, 2007-08-23 16:08:11.688

SPECIFYING A PCMCIA IRIG-106 (Ch. 4) DECOMMUTATORMc Girr, Niall 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 21, 2002 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / There are many applications where an ultra-compact PC (palm-top) is required for quick
analysis of PCM data. There are many design issues associated with the design of a PC-Card
(PCMCIA) decommutator.
• Is it possible to connect a 20Mbps PCM stream?
• What outputs are required from such a card?
• How many cards can be used?
• Which mode to use (memory or I/O)
• How to program such a card
• How to develop third-party software for analysis of data
This paper discusses some of these issues and the applications for such a card.

Non-Intrusive Audible Quick Response Code for media applicationMcGrath, Neethling 02 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MMus) -- University of Stellenbosch, 2015. / This study details the design of an audible QR Code. The audible QRCode
seeks to increase the rate of information exchanged in a human interaction and
increase the quality of communication by altering the delivery medium of a QRCode.
The delivery medium is changed from a two dimensional bar code to a
audio signal. The design is discussed in detail grounded on telecommunication
theory including signal modulation, packet construction and error correction.
Three techniques were tested in order to reduce the possible intrusive characteristics
of the audible QR Code on media content. The commercial uses
of the audible QR Code is discussed as well as possible competitions and the
advantages it has over the traditional visual QR Code.

The F-22A Quick Response Package-QRPNatale, Louis, Roach, John 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2011 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Seventh Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 24-27, 2011 / Bally's Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada / The F-22 Quick Response Package was designed to efficiently solve aircraft anomalies in the field. Providing this capability would enhance aircraft combat availability and lower maintenance costs. Using the current F-22 instrumentation flight test system design package as a baseline, a smaller, and much more versatile, version of the system was designed. This new design concept includes a data acquisition and recording system on a single pallet called the Quick Response Package (QRP). The QRP can be installed in any operational F-22 war fighter in a single production shift with no intrusion to the aircraft's systems readiness. The data acquisition and recording capabilities provide a near real-time field solution without excessive downtime or pilot intervention. This paper describes the design requirements, the design concept and packaging details of the QRP.

Media has a big actuating power over the public opinion. The image of reality that media choose to reproduce will affect the recipient view of reality. The case about Thomas Quick and its associated news coverage has been used as an example to illustrate the problematization regarding media imag-es and media framing attempt. The purpose of this essay was to illuminate how daily and evening newspapers works with various framing methods. The theoretical framework for this essay will discuss the media framing theory and its ramification attribute framing theory. This laid the foundation for the research question. The study also highlights research within media and crime as they hold a strong connection to each other. Then we de-scribe the theory of cognitive schemas and how they affect the way we think. Further we discuss journalist’s responsibility, which then leads to an account of the daily and evening press and their different working approaches.Through a quantitative content analysis study this study has sought answers to how Thomas Quick was framed at different time-periods, and if there are any differences and/or similarities between them. A coding was constructed and 408 articles from Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter were encoded. The articles were taken from Retrievers media archive and consist of a selection from the periods 1994-2001 and 2007-2014. The results were analyzed and presented in tables and graphs by using cross-tabulations and frequency charts made in SPSS just to create an overview of the figures the analysis resulted in. The results showed a lower use of attributes than expected, but despite this, the results indicated a journalism that dramatize and angles to create buzz and excitement. The usage of attributes was significantly higher in 1994-2001 than in 2007-2014. There was a clear lack of positive attributes which points to journalism that has a tendency to give negative angled news coverage. There are also clear signs of excessive selection of attributes. The results also show that evening and morning newspapers are not that far apart in their way of working. They both have an equal usage of attributes and uses sources in the same way.

The effect of quick feedback on employee motivation and performance : A qualitative study on how to formulate effective feedbackMarthouret, Eloïse, Sigvardsson, Sofie January 2016 (has links)
This thesis conceptualizes quick feedback as part of a performance management tool influencing and contributing to the individual’s self-motivation to work and improvement of employees’ performance. Prior research has shown that feedback is often considered to be a useful communication tool but not essential due to its time-consumption, i.e. feedback is perceived as too time-consuming to be prioritized. Thus, this thesis investigates the potential benefits of a quick feedback strategy focusing on short, specific and unambiguous performance review from the manager to the employee. Quick feedback refers to a few-minute discussion between a manager and one of his or her employees. During the discussion, the manager first reminds the employee of his or her goals. Then, the manager assesses his or her achievement and praises the employee. Finally, the manager explains to the employee what he or she did wrong and concludes by reminding how much his or her work is valued by the company. However, limited research has been done on the topic of quick feedback, and, to the authors’ knowledge, only few researchers have studied ways to mitigate the time-consumption of feedback until now. Thus, the overall purpose of this thesis is to examine how quick feedback from the manager to the employees can affect their behavior, motivation and ultimately influence their performance. By investigating the effects of quick feedback, the authors seek to acquire greater knowledge regarding how to provide and formulate positive and constructive feedback that will lead to better performance. Therefore, this study has an inductive and qualitative approach and investigates a Swedish insurance company. The authors interviewed the sales manager and ten of his employees in order to discover how the current feedback strategy of the sales manager versus the quick feedback strategy affect the employees’ motivation and performance. Findings show that the interviewed employees seek the same amount of both positive feedback and constructive criticism and that this quick feedback strategy, in turn, would shape their motivation and performance. However, this linkage has subtleties. Indeed, the employee needs to receive positive feedback, first and foremost, in order to genuinely and cleverly process and make use of the constructive criticism. The employee must feel confident and safe before he or she can listen to and accept constructive criticism. Results further show that in order to formulate accurate and impactful quick feedback, the manager needs to provide face-to-face personalized feedback in a standardized way i.e. standard form but personalized content. Further research is needed to acquire a greater knowledge about the effectiveness and efficiency of this potentially valuable strategy. The aim is to better understand and therefore use quick feedback to improve employee self-awareness, self-confidence, motivation and performance.

Quick Response or QR is a technology allowing fast and reliable optical reading of information encoded in a pattern of black and white squares. Reading implements include devices designed especially for this purpose as well as, in recent years, ordinary smartphones. The technology has for some time been successful in industrial applications such as storage management, but it is uncertain to what degree it might also see widespread use in everyday use of smartphones. We conduct a questionnaire-based survey targeting university students in order to estimate the extent and nature of QR usage. In analysing our findings we make use of the theory of diffusion of innovations, which provides a model for the adoption of a new technology within a given context. Our results imply that knowledge of the technology is widely dispersed, but that actual use is limited and that this is due to a lack of perceived usefulness rather than the technology as such being inaccessible or difficult to use.
