Quantitative bounds on the security-critical resource consumption of JavaScript appsFranzen, Daniel January 2016 (has links)
Current resource policies for mobile phone apps are based on permissions that unconditionally grant or deny access to a resource like private data, sensors and services. In reality, the legitimacy of an access may be context-dependent - for example, depending on how often a resource is accessed and in which situation. This thesis presents research into providing bounds on the access of JavaScript apps to security and privacy-relevant resources on mobile devices. The investigated bounds are quantitative and interaction-dependent: for example, permitting one access each time the user presses a specified button. Two novel systems are presented with different approaches to providing these bounds. The system PhoneWrap injects a quantitative policy into an app and enforces the bound dynamically during runtime by monitoring the resource consumption and the user interaction. If the injected bound is exceeded, the resource request is replaced by a deny action. This way, PhoneWrap restricts the unwanted behaviour while the expected functionality can be performed. Policies for this system describe the UI elements which trigger the expected resource consumption and the number of resource units consumed for each interaction. The enforcement of the policies is achieved via wrapping the critical APIs using JavaScript internal features. The injection of a policy can be performed automatically. PhoneWrap is the first system using the lightweight wrapping method to inject policies directly into mobile apps and the first to combine quantitative policies with interaction-dependencies. The second system AmorJiSe statically analyses the resource consumption of a given JavaScript program. This system automatically infers amortised annotations on top of given JavaScript data types. The amortised annotations symbolise reserved resource units stored in the data structures. This way the amount of resource units available to the app is expressed dependent on the size of the data structures. The resulting function types of the UI handlers can be used to extract interaction-dependent bounds. The correctness of these bounds is proven in relation to a resource-aware operational semantics. AmorJiSe extends the known amortised type paradigm to JavaScript with its dynamic object structures and applies this paradigm to the novel domain of mobile resources. Although, the two systems are based on similar resource models and produce similar resource bounds, they use different methods with different properties which are presented in this dissertation.

Resource Analysis of Small-diameter Tree Above-ground Biomass in MississippiTiruveedhula, Mohan P 30 April 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Small diameter trees refer to the trees with diameter at breast height (DBH) ranging from 5 to 11 inches. This research focuses on the resource analysis and spatial distribution of small-diameter tree (SDT) volume in Mississippi by a set of grouping variables including DBH class, species, stand size, forest cover type, ownership, and county groups. Regression and spatial interpolation techniques were used to predict the SDT volume for pine, hardwood, and mixed forest covers. Regression analysis resulted in a low regression coefficient (R2) without inventory data for all the forest cover types. The mean SDT volume to the total volume was greatest for pine (0.6), followed by mixed (0.4), and hardwood (0.3) forest cover. Non-spatial estimates indicated the total volume within respective groups. The spatial and non-spatial estimates of SDT resources can guide forest management personnel to effectively focus their management efforts.

A Case Study on The Competitive Strategy of Small and Medium Sized Engineering Company - ¡¨A BJ Engineering Company ¡¨Teng, Shou-Jen 10 July 2012 (has links)
An Engineering company is engineering services and traditional manufacturing industry. It provides construction services for electrical power, petrochemical, steel manufacturing, environmental protection, energy, technology and public construction project.
Because of geographical, historical evolution, political and economic development, and other factors, it develops 95% domestic small and medium enterprises. Almost 90% of small and medium domestic engineering and construction companies lack of resources for financial capability, strength and efforts, technology, project management, and design capability. There are too many difficulties to cope with and powerless frustration for each resource and capability. Especially lacks of working funds, such they are not able to take part in the bidding for a large turnkey project. They can only undertake a smaller construction or act as a subcontractor for a larger engineering and construction company, besides their profit will be very negligible due to lower entry barrier of the industry. In recent years, more and more companies of petrochemical industry move to foreign countries as well as global economic downturn and the environmental consciousness is going up, it cases number of domestic construction projects is trending down and the market competition is trending fiercely. Most of small and medium engineering and construction companies are in the face of business distress because of the tough competition, and that will limit the growth of business.
In a mature and competitive industry, the most strategy for medium and small companies is to build up core competence, build competitive advantage, and improve competitiveness. After that, the companies will have adequate resources and abilities to become a larger company which can enlarge the scale of operation, move to overseas market, and maximize the stockholders¡¦ value. To become a large company is very import for medium and small construction companies. All of these are the vision of small and medium sized engineering and construction companies and are the most important mission of the administrator of the companies.
In this thesis, the research regards BJ engineering company as the research object. It carry on quality and qualitative research with such analytical methods as value chain, SWOT, 5-force analysis, PEST, and resource analysis. The purpose of this work is to build up the strategy of competitive advantage for small and medium companies, and find out the proper business strategy for BJ Company. Some advices will enable to break through the business bottleneck, enhance core competitiveness, and expand the business scale and the scope of BJ Company operations. We wish to share the experiences of competitive advantage to achieve sustainable management of the target.

An Evaluation of Critical Resources in Nurse Anesthesia Educational ProgramsStewart, Lois E 01 January 2017 (has links)
Advanced practice nurses fill a vital need in the U.S. by increasing access to needed healthcare. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are one type of advanced practice nurse with a long history of safe and effective peri-anesthetic care. Nurse anesthetists have a rich tradition of providing anesthetic care for rural and underserved communities, and are a primary provider of anesthesia for active and retired military personnel. CRNAs comprise over one-half of the actively practicing U.S. anesthesia workforce currently, and are able to function in any anesthetic care model. Nurse anesthesia educational programs (NAEPs) are the single source for new graduate nurse anesthetists in the U.S.
Demographic, geographic and epidemiological factors have combined to produce a predicted increase in the demand for peri-operative anesthesia care among a complex, aging and increasing patient population. The uninterrupted or increased supply of CRNAs to the anesthesia workforce is important. The goal of this study was the production of a comprehensive analysis of potential resource constraints upon the NAEPs in the U.S. This was accomplished through a focused, prospective and correlational research design, grounded conceptually in Resource Dependence Theory. A novel survey tool was developed for the assessment of critical resource constraints, completed by U.S. NAEP administrators and faculty. This research was exploratory in nature and is the basis for continued work in critical resource planning tools for U.S. NAEPs.

Analyse de ressources pour les systèmes concurrents dynamiques / Resource analysis for concurrent and dynamic systemsDeharbe, Aurélien 21 September 2016 (has links)
Concurrent activities involve undoubtedly many dynamic resources manupulations: files, communication links, memory, etc. Then, the behavioral properties of such systems are closely linked to their usage of those resources that they allocate, use, and finally destroy. In this work, we develop a quantitative static analysis of concurrent and parallel systems for this kind of resources. Systems that we consider can be concurrent and parallel programs (written for example in the Piccolo programming language which was developped during this thesis), or models descriptions of more general systems. To be generic, our work lies on process algebra, specifically pi-calculs for which we propose a variant semantics in addition to several resources abstractions strategies. The underlying theory is developped as a nominal automata framework (namely the nu-automata). They allow one to reason about dynamic resources usage to charaterize both quantitative and qualitative properties. From this formalism we establish an algorithmic framework that enforce the qualitative results defined on nu-automata. Finally, our resources abstractions and resources analysis are tested experimentally on classical pi-calculus examples using our prototype analysis tool.
