An Autonomous Driver of a TORCS Racing Car / An Autonomous Driver of a TORCS Racing Car

Běhal, Lukáš January 2012 (has links)

Källberg, Lisa January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to review the norms and ideals within the area of motorsports. The main focus is within circuit racing and particularly Formula one, WEC, World Endurance Championship, and the Le Mans 24h race. Furthermore, the ambition is to examine culture within the sports as well as what it will take to reach a professional level as a driver in a major racing series. A total of three (3) interviews have been conducted to further deepen the question at issue. Alongside the interviews, two (2) observations has been executed internationally to study the theories on site of racing events. The gathered material has since been analyzed and two perspectives have emerged: The image of the sport; and the image of the driver. From the two (2) perspectives, we can derive more subordinate perspectives. Derived from the image of the sport the following perspectives arose: danger and rivalry. From the image of the driver the following three perspectives can be procured; the vulnerable driver, the perfectionist as well as the (un)healthy driver.   The result is pointing to a sport in constant alteration. From the incipient events of motorsport leading up to present, there has been a substantial development both within the sport itself as well as from a driver perspective. As the sport evolved from notoriously dangerous and potentially lethal to relatively safe, other elements have emerged and become major factors such as individualism, rivalry and politics. With a larger commercialization and professionalization, the demands of the driver have increased substantially. The driver needs to be more complete than ever, both on the track as well as off the track.

Street Fights: Corporate Social Responsibility and a Dragway's Attempt to Reduce Illegal Street Racing

Greene, Amanda E, Dotterweich, Andy, Lhotsky, Gary, Davis, Jason 01 January 2015 (has links)
This study sought to explore a professional sport venue’s use of Corporate social responsibility (CSR) to promote positive social change, by addressing illegal street racing, through events designed for community participation. This study specifically looked at public dragracing events, titled “Street Fights,” held at a professional dragway. The purpose of this study was to 1) examine drivers’ awareness of the event’s social responsibility initiatives with Street Fight events and 2) determine if these initiatives are promoting behavioral changes in drivers. Drivers at Street Fight events were surveyed (n=77, 60% response rate) on their levels of awareness of the venue’s social responsibility initiatives, as well as, the event and venue’s overall influence on positive social change within the community. Results showed that Street Fight racers seem to be aware that the events were created to offer a safe, legal, and affordable place to dragrace. Street Fight racers also indicated they were less likely to engage in excessive speeding on open roadways due to their participation in Street Fight events.

Le stade de Colombes et l’enjeu d’un grand stade en France : des origines à 1972 / The stadium of Colombes and the stake of a big stadium in France : origins to 1972

Delepine, Michaël 03 December 2015 (has links)
The stadium of Colombes is probably one of the most eminent French sports construction in the twentieth century. Indeed, in 1907, the installation which replaced the former racecourse became a stadium for the 1924 Olympic Games. Colombes was a place for the most important international events, but was especially the French national stadium until 1972 when the new Parc des Princes was built. French sport's witness during fifty years, Yves-du-Manoir' stadium, owned by Racing Club de France and the Comité National des Sports, is constantly linked with the question of a 100,000 seat big stadium. Despite being the French biggest sports installation, Colombes is a “by default stadium”, a wrecked attempt of a monumental project which has punctuated its whole existence. Therefore we first analyze the origins of this question at the beginning of the 20th century and then go back over the mechanisms which led to the construction of the Olympic enclosure. The study of its running and its management constitute an other main line. At last, we study the thwarted destiny of this stadium, the rivalry with other constructions, the negative image of the place and the threat of a monumental stadium.

Rozdíl mobility zápěstí u hráčů závodního a rekreačního tenisu / Difference wrist mobility with players racing and recreational tennis

Mertlík, Jakub January 2013 (has links)
Title: Difference wrist mobility with players racing and recreational tennis Objective: The aim of this work is to measure and compare the range of motion of the wrist in racing and recreational tennis players and both upper limbs (playing, not playing). To compare the values measured 2D electrogoniometry, by sex and game levels. Method: Research probands were divided into two groups, a total of 20 people. In one group, there were ten boys and ten girls aged 14-17 years who play tennis at competitive level and train four to five times a week for at least 4 years. The second group also consisted of 10 boys and 10 girls in the same age range, but tennis is played on a recreational level once maximum twice a week for at least 4 years. It was important that the criteria for selecting probands had several common denominators. These are gender, age, level of game, whether measured by an individual not had any injury, regeneration is not and should not do other activities besides tennis. Wrist probands were tested using an electric goniometer. Were measured in the frontal plane (radial and ulnar reduction) and sagittal plane (dorsal and palmar flexion). These data were measured by sitting electrogoniometry and subsequently were compared and statistically analyzed. Results: Measurements confirmed...

The speed gateway: a facility for the upliftment and promotion of South Africa's motorsport culture

Andrade, Ricardo Miguel Gois January 2016 (has links)
This document is submitted in partial fulfilment for the degree: Masters of Architecture (Professional) University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, 2015 / Globally people are at the edge of their seats wide-eyed with passion and awe for the spectacular and entertaining world of motor racing, admiring the world’s most powerful machines and talented drivers battling through the race tracks with lightning speed and outstanding agility. Due to lack of public support, poor management and funding the motorsport culture is rapidly dying out and race tracks are becoming exceedingly underutilized in South Africa. Through Architectural intervention, the aim is to transform the underutilized Kyalami race track into a vibrant and entertaining motorsport venue that will integrate motorsport back into society and preserve this iconic race track that maintains the national motorsport culture alive. Apart from the shear entertainment value motorsport provides it has always united people from around the globe and enabled the production of some of the most technologically advanced machines of our time. Recognising the tremendous value motor racing had, the iconic Kyalami race track was built in South Africa, situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria, which hosted a great number of International Grand Prix events. Motorsport soon gained a major cultural, political, social, economic and spatial presence in South Africa. After almost three decades the race track was removed from the Formula 1 Grand Prix calendar, among other major motorsport calendars, due to sanctions. The poor entertainment value over recent years has led to a major decline in public and sponsor interest in local motorsport. In return Kyalami has become unsustainable which, in the past year, nearly led to the loss of the iconic race track which would have further rendered the local motorsport culture extinct. This recurring scenario around the country becomes the vital point of enquiry for this thesis; the role of Architecture in promoting the motorsport culture; the long-standing relationship between the automobile and Man and its influence on the urban fabric and architecture that is part of our everyday experience. Sited on the Kyalami race track, the architectural design will include an urban framework that will better integrate the current isolated race track with its surrounding context. The framework will include outdoor public activity spaces as well as research, training and workshop facilities that will accommodate the public’s needs and interests at the same time uplift and promote both the automobile and motorsport industry. The primary Kyalami Motorsport Centre sited by the existing southern pit complex will not only offer an enhanced trackside and racing experience to both spectators and race teams but the necessary auto-tecture that will host thrilling motorsport events and promote the nation’s young talented drivers / GR2017
