Carlsén, Anton January 2018 (has links)

Softening behavior during annealing of col-rolled aluminium alloy 7075.

Saul Hissaci de Souza 06 February 2018 (has links)
This work presents a study about the softening after cold rolling and annealing of aluminium alloy AA 7075. Firstly, polarized light optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, electrical conductivity and Vickers hardness have been used at the starting material (T6). The samples were then separated in two groups. The former underwent a solubilization heat treatment (485°C for 5 hours) whilst the latter underwent an overaging treatment to grow up the existing precipitates (300°C for 5 hours). Both groups of treated samples were again characterized by the techniques described above (except optical microscopy). In the rolling stage, the difficulty in straining the solubilized sample and the relative ease for doing so to the overaged sample was verified. It was therefore decided to conduct the study with the samples of the second group, which were 45%, 75% and 90% rolled in thickness reduction. Then, they underwent isothermal and isochronous treatments in order to study its softening kinetics by Vickers hardness measurements, polarized light optic microscopy and EBSD. The overaged and rolled samples (45% in thickness reduction) didn\'t present evidences of recrystallization except by very few grains found via EBSD (in samples treated from 250 ° C for 1 hour). So, most of the observed softening can be explained by recovery. In addition, the softening kinetics of the annealed samples in this group showed good agreement with the logarithmic law proposed by Kulhmann (1948) and (coincidentally) also with the consolidated JMAK model. The overaged samples that underwent thickness reduction of 75% and 90% showed a similar behavior (that is, mainly recovery) for annealing at temperatures up to 350 ° C. Annealing at 400 ° C promoted total recrystallization of the samples from this group (75% and 90% in thickness reduction) in less than 15 minutes. Thus, it was not possible to study the kinetics of recrystallization for this second group of samples.

The effects of teacher behavior on students who have completed treatment for alcohol and drug dependency : a qualitative analysis

Boling, Karen S. 03 June 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine from the treated students' perspective what teacher behaviors facilitate recovery and what teacher behaviors inhibit recovery. Study participants included 16 high school students who had completed treatment for alcohol and drug dependency in grades 9-12, and 112 teachers. Students and teachers were interviewed to better explain the phenomenon from their perspectives. Data gathered from student interviews, student journal recordings, observer notes, and teacher interviews were used as corroborating data. The constant comparative method was used to analyze data (Glaser & Strauss, 1967).Five major themes emerged from the data analysis explaining the effects of teacher behavior on students who had completed treatment for drug and alcohol dependency. The data were segmented into themes using a bi-polar structure. These themes were: (1) student performance; (2) student communication; (3) student relations: security; (4) student: affective; and, (5) authority: student behavior. These themes yielded student identified causal conditions, intervening conditions, and action/reaction strategies that either inhibited or facilitated recovery. The data showed students did not have neutral feelings; they had either negative or positive feelings about their personal interactions with teachers or their observations of teachers' interaction with other teachers and/or other students. Teacher behaviors which resulted in negative student behavior consequences in each of the five major theme categories were not helpful to students and inhibited their recovery. Teacher behaviors which resulted in positive student behavior consequences in each of the five major theme categories helped students and facilitated their recovery.

Qualitative analysis of chemically recovering persons who were raised in alcoholic families and their perceptions of treatment plans

Gaff-Clark, Carla J. January 2001 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to gather insights from recovering (from addictions) Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) at Pathway to Recovery, Inc., Indianapolis, IN, who have participated in a pilot family addictions treatment group. This research gives evidence on the group counseling support that ACA group members reported they received and/or determined they needed to receive regarding: their (1) addictions and recovery; (2) specific family of origin roles; and (3) basic ACA issues; as well as information needed to continue living a healthy, productive, drug-free life-style, and; the assistance counselors/therapists could give in this endeavor.A case study methodology was used for this research. Eight informants were purposively selected from a total of 45 ACA group members. Three interviews were conducted with each of the eight informants. Retrospective, structured, and semi-structured interviews, as described by Fraenkel and Wallen (1996) were utilized. Since an interview guide was unavailable for use in this study, one was created. The following four conclusions were drawn from the results of this study:1. The evidence collected suggests that the eight informants benefited from the three-pronged (addictions, ACA issues, specific family role) Recovery, Inc.2. The evidence (detailed in Chapter Four) indicated that many of the actions described herein assisted informants after leaving the ACA group and that the group was responsible for many of the positive changes.3. Accepting oneself was identified most often as the step needed to achieve and maintain sobriety.4. Learning about family issues and studying childhood behaviors may be painful as well as helpful. Results of this study were not generalized beyond these eight informants. However, this study contributed new information to the field of addictions and family roles research by describing the actions, behaviors, thoughts and feelings of these eight informants. / Department of Educational Leadership

Caracterização ecofisiológica de espécies nativas da Mata Atlântica sob dois níveis de estresse induzidos pelo manejo florestal em área de restauração florestal no Estado de São Paulo / Ecophysiology of native species of the atlantic forest under two environmental stress levels induced by silvicultural practices in a restored area of Sao Paulo State

Servin, Cláudia Maria Iannelli 19 April 2007 (has links)
The study purpose is to evaluate the development of 20 native species in a area under restoration and submitted to two levels of environmental stress according to silvicultural practices. The usual practices has a higher level of stress and the maximum practices resulted in a lower level of stress, due to a higher fertilization regime and a complete weed-control. The experimental plots were selected from a experiment located on the Experimental station of USP in Anhembi (22°47' S and 48°09' W), planted in a pasture in march 2004, and evaluated at 2,5 years-old. The plots were planted in a 3 m x 2 m spacing, with 1270 m2 of total area and 792 m2 of usable area, with 132 trees, with four replications. The variables measured were high, diameter at 30 cm and volume. Physiological variables included photosynthesis, a b and total chlorophyll, total soluble proteins and leaf macronutrients, besides specific leaf area. All trees of each plot were measure for growth estimates and three trees per species and management for the physiological variables. The analysis were done considering a 2 x 2 factorial design with the factors ecological group (pioneers and non pioneer) and silviculture (usual and maximum). The pioneer species had a better growth than non pioneer. The volume of the pioneer species were 27-fold larger than non pioneers under usual silviculture and 5- fold larger under maximum silviculture. The maximum silviculture showed a 4,6-fold larger volumetric growth compared with the usual silviculture dor pioneers species, and 25,5-fold larger growth for non pioneer ones. Pioneer species also showed larger physiological metabolisms than non pioneer ones. Photosynthesis of the pioneers were 52% larger than the non pioneer under usual silviculture and 40% under maximum silviculture. Photosynthesis were also enlarged by maximum silviculture between 18 and 30%. In general, non pioneer species were more flexible (larger responses to the alliviation of stress) than pioneer species, although there were a large variability. The results allowed the establishment of 4 classes of species, classified by growth rate and flexibility, with can be used to better recommendation of species to different restoration conditions.

Robust estimation of structure from motion in the uncalibrated case

van den Hengel, Anton January 2000 (has links)
A picture of a scene is a 2-dimensional representation of a 3-dimensional world. In the process of projecting the scene onto the 2-dimensional image plane, some of the information about the 3-dimensional scene is inevitably lost. Given a series of images of a scene, typically taken by a video camera, it is sometimes possible to recover some of this lost 3-dimensional information. Within the computer vision literature this process is described as that of recovering structure from motion. If some of the information about the internal geometry of the camera is unknown, then the problem is described as that of recovering structure from motion in the uncalibrated case. It is this uncalibrated version of the problem that is the concern of this thesis. Optical flow represents the movement of points across the image plane over time. Previous work in the area of structure from motion has given rise to a so-called differential epipolar equation which describes the relationship between optical flow and the motion and internal parameters of the camera. This equation allows the calibration of a camera undergoing unknown motion and having an unknown, and possibly varying, focal length. Obtaining accurate estimates of the camera motion and internal parameters in the presence of noisy optical flow data is critical to the structure recovery process. We present and compare a variety of methods for estimating the coefficients of the differential epipolar equation. The goal of this process is to derive a tractable total least squares estimator of structure from motion robust to the presence of inaccuracies in the data. Methods are also presented for rectifying optical flow to a particular motion estimates, eliminating outliers from the data, and calculating the relative motion of a camera over an image sequence. This thesis thus explores the application of numerical and statistical techniques for the estimation of structure from motion in the uncalibrated case. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Mathematical and Computer Sciences (Department of Computer Science), 2000.
