Roussel, Nicolas 07 December 2007 (has links) (PDF)

Carlsson, Anders, Johansson, Simon, Svedlund, Jacob January 2010 (has links)

Peptidic vectors for the delivery of oligonucleotides : design, mechanism of cellular internalization and applications to regulate splicing.

Abes, Rachida 29 November 2010 (has links)
The use of antisense oligonucleotides PMO or PNA to correct splicing errors by steric- block represents a new promising therapeutic strategy. These ONs lead to the treatment of diseases such as β-thalassemia, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) or cancers. However their functional success requires efficient delivery. Cationic cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) are characterized by their ability to be internalized in eukaryotic cells. However their efficiency in promoting cytoplasmic and nuclear delivery of ON has been hampered by endocytic sequestration and subsequent degradation of internalized material in endocytic vesicles, which is responsible for the degradation of internalized material. We have contributed to the study of intracellular trafficking and activity (using splicing correction assay) of several families of CPPs capable of delivering effective analogs ON at nontoxic doses and in the absence of agents endosomolytic. Our mechanistic studies indicate that these constructs (covalent or noncovalent) CPP-ON are internalized through clathrin, that segregation in endosomes remains a limitation and that there is good correlation between biological activity and their ability to destabilize endosomal membranes.

Physical Boundary as a Source of Anomalies in Transport Processes in Acoustics and Electrodynamics

Bozhko, Andrii 12 1900 (has links)
Various anomalous effects that emerge when the interfaces between media are involved in sound-matter or light-matter interactions are studied. The three specific systems examined are a fluid channel between elastic metal plates, a linear chain of metallic perforated cylindrical shells in air, and a metal-dielectric slab with the interfaces treated as finite regions of smoothly changing material properties. The scattering of acoustic signals on the first two is predicted to be accompanied by the effects of redirection and splitting of sound. In the third system, which supports the propagation of surface plasmons, it is discovered that the transition region introduces a nonradiative decay mechanism which adds to the plasmon dissipation. The analytical results are supported with numerical simulations. The outlined phenomena provide the ideas and implications for applications involving manipulation of sound or excitation of surface plasmons.

Impact of Wind Farm Control Technologies on Wind Turbine Reliability

Walgern, Julia January 2019 (has links)
Cost efficient operation and maintenance strategies are crucial for reducing cost of wind energy. Since the regime change from feed-in tariffs to an auction-based bidding system for capacity in most European wind projects, levelized cost of energy is challenged constantly. Therefore, new technologies such as new controllers are developed to improve operation and to increase profit. Previous research studies demonstrated the advantage of increased power output of wake redirection control. However, understanding and quantifying the impact of wind farm control technologies on operation and maintenance strategies is inevitable to evaluate the economic feasibility of such new technologies. Thus, an event-based O&M simulation tool has been developed. Besides general modules, such as the wind turbine model, the weather forecasting model and a model for simulating corrective and planned maintenance, the developed tool also takes wake effects into account. This allows considering different power productions for each individual turbine and a failure rate distribution within the wind farm which is based on altering loads on the different components. Both aspects are driven by changes in operation when applying a new controller technology. Exemplarily, the economic feasibility of a closed-loop active wake steering control has been analysed. Main achievements of this study are the possibility to quantify the impact of the active wake steering control on O&M related KPIs. Results show that additional loads caused by applying yaw-misalignment and redirecting wake, lead to an increase in OPEX. However, the achieved energy production gain and thus related additional revenue exceeds additional cost in the case study. Nonetheless, the study reveals that the profitability of the controller is highly dependent on the electricity price which can be acquired during the wind farm’s lifetime.

No. of bitstreams: 1 6215.pdf: 2705931 bytes, checksum: f13134b07bf961a0e166ae8f6fdc0bf0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-02-27 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / During the last decade, the advent of large scale processing and the need for rapid modification of computational structures have increased the popularity of Cloud Computing, particularly the Infrastructure as a Service model. Several companies have invested in infrastructure to become providers of this kind of service, whether for general public or only to supply their own business needs. This has increased the number of virtualized datacenters across the world and created a growing interest in interoperability between different providers. However, due to the lack of technology standardization, and to limitations in the current network s architecture, this interoperability is still an issue. Based on this, this research project presents an OpenFlow based network flow redirection architecture to support service continuity during the migration of applications between different IaaS providers. The tests performed show the applicability of the proposed architecture in a real network environment, having control only of the network edges, and without setting up any specific hardware.
