Timm Kröger : der Dichter unserer Heimat

Der norddeutsche Schriftsteller Timm Kröger ist in Haale (Kreis Rendsburg-Eckernförde) geboren, einem Dorf, das in nächster Nähe von Luhnstedt, dem Heimatdorf von F.E. Peters, liegt. Peters und Kröger sind sich nie persönlich begegnet, hatten aber gemeinsame Bekannte. „Timm Kröger – der Dichter unserer Heimat“ stammt aus dem Nachlass von F.E. Peters, der ein Bewunderer der Kunst Timm Krögers war und den „besonderen lyrischen Schimmer“ seiner Erzählkunst geliebt hat. Die Rede ist anlässlich des 110. Geburtstages von Timm Kröger entstanden. Peters nimmt das Jubiläum zum Anlass, anhand von Zitaten aus Krögers Vorwort zu einer Gesamtausgabe seiner Werke die Gattung Heimatdichtung kritisch zu beleuchten und zu unterscheiden zwischen einer ideologisch gefärbten schablonenhaften Heimatdichtung und einer Dichtung, welche die Landschaften der Heimat in den Mittelpunkt stellt, das Provinzielle jedoch überwindet: „Es sei zugegeben, dass von sogenannten Heimatdichtern viel plattes Zeug geliefert wird. Darum spreche ich heute von dem Dichter unserer Heimat, nicht von dem Heimatdichter Timm Kröger.“

RESUMÉ V ANGLICKÉM JAZYCE Slaný is a town not only with a long history, but also with rich cultural and social traditions. It has also become the birthplace, home town or temporary place of engagement for many eminent artists and writers of the Czech cultural scene. At present, the royal town of Slaný represents a natural administrative and social centre of its neighbourhood. Václav Štech, an outstanding teacher, writer, playwright and organizer, spent many years of his fecund life here. His tireless activity and enthusiasm have left a trace in the history of all Slaný societies in the last quarter of 19thcentury and the town of Slaný has to thank him for the opening of the municipal theatre and library, laying the foundations of the municipal museum and creating the tradition of the Slaný yearbook called Slánský obzor (Slaný Horizon). Štech celebrated his home town in his numerous literary works. As a beginning writer, he focused his attention to theatre; then he focused more on writing humorous short stories and bulky novels. In his novels he captured the life of a small town at the end of 19th century. Štech's humorous writings are typical for its sharp criticism of provincial conditions, ironic view and caricature of the main characters (small-town figures). The Captive press: captivity narratives, print networks, and regional prospects, 1838-1895

The Captive Press argues that nineteenth-century Indian captivity narratives escaped from the expectations of the American literary marketplace through manipulations of the material text. With modern methods of production, promotion, and dissemination, captivity narratives dominated the reading public even as Native peoples were forced to submit to governmental encroachments. This study focuses on narratives produced by and about Anglo-American women whose impoverished return from captivity motivated them to write for their livelihood. The narratives of Rachel Parker Plummer, Sarah Larimer, Fanny Kelly, and Abbie Gardner-Sharp were designed to appeal to local readers who were likely to become financial sponsors through direct marketing. Later editions added para-textual material, developed textual content, and introduced illustrations such as wood engravings or photographs to increase marketability for broader audiences. By publishing captivity narratives on state presses and distributing them through regional print networks, nineteenth-century producers maintained the homegrown flavor of the genre while expanding readership beyond local boundaries. This dissertation demonstrates how, with the assistance of editors, illustrators, and publishers, these entrepreneurial women reversed their subject position to hold the popular press captive.

A Key for Memory--The Study of Rural Literature Creation of Tsai Wen-Chang

Mr. Tsai, his literary creation is writing about his hometown, Kangshan. People can have the picture of the past memory about Kangshan due to his writing. As rural literature creation, it may not easy to catch people¡¦s attention. However, for people that have the same background of Mr. Tsai, his rural literature creation is the key to open our memory, and this is the reason I choose his creation as my research study. This research is mainly investing about 12 published books of Mr. Tsai. There are five chapters in this study.¡GChapter one, abstract; this chapter presents the background of the study, the purpose of the study, the research questions, definitions of the key terms, and the significance of the study. Chapter two, Literature Review, includes the review of three relevant studies for the readers who could have initial understanding regarding author¡¦s works. In Chapter three, the main focus is on researching for the context inside Mr. Tsai¡¦s rural literature writing. In this research, I find his writing always contains the attention to homeland, hometown concerning and social awareness. The foresaid observation leads to a summary which I categorize his writing into four main topics : Sentiment, Land, Society and Nature. In Chapter four, I try to analyze the value of Mr. Tsai¡¦s literary works. To respond and reflect the topic of this thesis, A key for the memory, the value of Mr. Tsai¡¦s works record the folks, events and things exist in the past, and those records have become the inheritance for the descendents. Chapter five, Conclusion; in this chapter, a summary of the study will be firstly presented. Eventually, limitations of the study and suggestions for further research will be presented.

Classic Poetry in Pescadores

The history of Han ethnic in Pescadores could be traced further than that in Taiwan. Pass through hundred years of four dynasties (Song, Yuan, Ming, Ching) till nowadays, cross between turbulent Taiwan Strait with Taiwan and China on both end, there are numerous stories occurred in Pescadores which has become the fundamental elements to formulate Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. Ocean described in both natural and anthropologic rhetoric, records of disasters, descriptions of eight famous scenery spots and indigenous customs and resources of Pescadores, all these narrations constitute the divers and various Pescadores. The argument that Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry is the original of Taiwan classic poetry, as well as the original of Taiwan marine literature, verify doubtless position of Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry in Taiwan literature history. ¡@¡@The establishment of ¡§Wen-Shih tutor school¡¨ motivated Pescadores¡¦ civil sophist to study more diligently. As the result, adopting Han poetic structure to describe Pescadores had been no longer the privilege of rotating-bureaucrats and scholar-gentry. During Japanese colony era, not only former civil-literati of Ching dynasty instructed descendants to compose Han poetry actively, they also regarded Han poetry as the spiritual fortress to defend Chinese culture. Since then, poets from Pescadores were invited to Taiwan one after another to instruct sinology and influenced Han poetry development in certain Taiwan areas consequently. Even though New Taiwanese Literature bloomed after World War II, Pescadores¡¦ poets devoted themselves to classic poetry more enthusiastic in order to construct Pescadores¡¦ subjectivity from localized vision. From legends, historic scenes, scenery spots, local commodity, leisure time, custom activities, culture heritage to religion beliefs, the pure beauty could be easily found in Pescadores¡¦ classic poems, in the unsophisticated but sincere phrases and words. ¡@¡@This dissertation is composed of three sections. The first section focuses on background elaboration including geographic location, cultivating history and human activities in order to comprehend fundamental contents of Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. The second section focuses on composers¡¦ compilation which reviews the most significant Pescadores¡¦ classic poems during various eras (from Ming, Ching dynasties, Japanese colonization, post WWII age till nowadays) with biographical style historiography to understand chronographic evaluation and construct the development history of Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. The third section focuses on thematic methodology with human science viewpoints from geographic, historical, sociologic and esthetic aspects to explore subjects interpreted in Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. This dissertation therefore provides following academic results for reference: 1.Construct a more comprehensive development history as well as a more distinct contexture of Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. 2.Manifest Pescadores¡¦ classic poems with literature viewpoints to conclude corresponding meaningfulness during different eras in Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry development history. 3.File out Pescadores¡¦ poets of classic poetry in each era on literature ground to exhibit integrated interface for advanced research. 4.Present Pescadores¡¦ characteristics through interpreting various themes in Pescadores¡¦ classic poetry. 5.Verify the meaning and position of Pescadores¡¦ regional classic poetry to visualize so-called ¡§at liberty of being marginalized¡¨.

Despite a devoted cult following and high praise from a handful of reviewers, Donald Harington has received scant attention in the academic literature. Harington (1935-2009) published 14 novels, most of them centered around the fictional Ozark hamlet of Stay More, Arkansas. Because he wrote mostly about a single town and because his novels contain a folkloric magical realism, he has often been compared to William Faulkner and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but his works defy easy classification. This report argues that Harington’s novel Farther Along is a recovery narrative structurally and thematically congruent with the recovery narratives told at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. The storyteller establishes his “qualifications” as an addictive drinker and depicts alcoholism as a symptom of underlying problems manifested not only in drinking but also in self-pity and resentment. The drinker reaches a crisis, or bottom, and begins to recover after going to meetings and hearing someone else’s autobiographical story that reveals truths about the nature of addiction. Continued attendance at meetings, during which one identifies with the stories of others, ends alcoholic isolation. Help from some type of higher power becomes crucial to achieving sobriety. And recovery includes service to others as a safeguard against the return of self-pity. However, in Farther Along it is not AA’s twelve-step program that leads the protagonist to sobriety. Instead, it is storytelling in itself – fiction – that functions as the “program” of recovery. More particularly, Harington, himself an alcoholic who remained sober for more than two decades, found an alternative to AA in his bizarre brand of magical realism. Thus, the novel is a testament to the healing power of stories. / text

The diploma thesis looks into literary legends of the Sedlčany and its closest area which is defined by cultural and geographical demarcation of the region. The four-volume Legends of Sedlčany area by regional author Karel Bazal are understood as the essential material of the thesis. The diploma thesis also aims to briefly summarize life and work of this author as well as to place him to literary context of the period. Focus will be paid to interpretation of characters as well as to interpretation of legends which will be based on assorted heuristic material. The diploma thesis will not only use theory of regional literature and genologic demarcation of legends, but it will also include photos of chosen places in Sedlčany area and design of project based learning based on interdisciplinary relations (prepared for secondary school class).

Este trabalho utiliza os sete romances da escritora Rachel de Queiroz (1910-2003), O Quinze (1930), JoÃo Miguel (1932), Caminhos de Pedra (1937), as TrÃs Marias (1939), O Galo de Ouro (1950), DÃra, Doralina (1975) e Memorial de Maria Moura (1992), e tem por objetivo identificar e descrever o lÃxico regional caracterÃstico do Nordeste brasileiro, de modo especial, o do CearÃ, terra natal da escritora. Tal objetivo à justificado a partir de diversas declaraÃÃes da escritora, para quem seus personagens, embora fictÃcios, sÃo representativos da cultura nordestina e tambÃm remetem a caracterÃsticas de pessoas da sua convivÃncia social. Estudar a obra de Rachel de Queiroz, numa perspectiva linguÃstica, à bastante significativo, pelo fato de a escritora cearense apresentar, em sua escritura, um conjunto de obras construÃdas, sobremaneira, com a linguagem popular do Nordeste. Essa linguagem nos à apresentada atravÃs de inÃmeros regionalismos, que vÃo desde vocÃbulos e expressÃes a provÃrbios. Toda essa riqueza dos modos de falar pode ser encontrada, principalmente, nos romances, pois foi exatamente nesse gÃnero literÃrio que Rachel de Queiroz expressou o drama do homem das terras secas e pobres do Nordeste. Na composiÃÃo de uma obra literÃria, o estudo do lÃxico assume um papel de suma importÃncia no sentido de nos proporcionar um acompanhamento do processo de avanÃo e de transformaÃÃo da lÃngua integrada na cultura de um povo. Acreditamos que uma pesquisa, nestes moldes, està revestida de importÃncia para os estudos linguÃsticos, por tratar-se de uma pesquisa sÃcio e etnolinguÃstica, a qual investiga a variaÃÃo da linguagem em seu contexto social, mais precisamente, no que diz respeito ao processo linguÃstico e à cultura regional nordestina, anotados no glossÃrio a que nos propomos realizar, como forma de cooperar com algumas lacunas da Lexicologia e Lexicografia, mormente, a regional, para a fortuna crÃtica da obra de Rachel de Queiroz. / This study uses the seven novels, by the author Rachel de Queiroz (1910-2003): O Quinze (1930), JoÃo Miguel (1932), Caminhos de Pedra (1937), as TrÃs Marias (1939), O Galo de Ouro (1950), DÃra, Doralina (1975), and Memorial de Maria Moura (1992) with the objective of identifying and describing the regional lexicon from the Brazilian Northeast, especially, from CearÃ, the state where she was born. Such objective was justified by the author's own words who said, in several occasions, that her characters, although they are fictional, they are representative of the Northeast culture, and that they also refer to characteristics of the people from her social life. The investigation of Rachel de Queiroz's work, in a linguistic perspective, is quite relevant due to the fact that this author presents in her writing a set of works composed greatly of ordinary language from the Northeast. This language is presented through countless regionalisms, which encompass words and expressions and proverbs. All this richness in ways of speaking may be found, mainly, in her novels, since it was exactly, through this literary genre, that Rachel de Queiroz expressed the dramatic situation of men in the dry and poor lands of the Northeast. In the composition of a literary work, the lexicon assumes an important role in the sense of that it provides us with a monitoring process of advance and transformation of language integrated in the culture of a people. For that, this research will be conducted in the prospect of theoretical principles of Lexicology and Lexicography, based on AragÃo (2006), Krieger et al (2006), Biderman (2001), Isquerdo (1998), and Barbosa (1991), in order to produce a glossary with lexical regional unities presented in Rachel de Queiroz's novels. We believe that this perspective of research is relevant to Linguistic studies, since it treats of a social and ethnolinguistic research, which investigates the linguistic variation in its social context, more particularly, concerning the linguistic process and the Northeastern regional culture, inserted in the glossary, as a way of giving contribution to some gaps in the area of Lexicology and Lexicography, specially, the regional one, and to Rachel de Queiroz's literary criticism.
