Exploring trust and the relational experiences of male clients within counselling for childhood sexual abuse

Moriarty, Catherine January 2017 (has links)
Among the many researched outcomes of childhood sexual abuse (‘CSA’), relational difficulties have been well documented. However, male CSA survivors may experience several outcomes that are unique to their gendered experience and yet remain largely under-represented in the literature. A gap was identified in the research around the experience of the male survivor in therapy for childhood sexual abuse, particularly where it relates to relationship building. Therefore the research aimed to explore this from the perspective of the survivors, with a focus on trust within the therapeutic relationship. To achieve this, the researcher interviewed 6 male survivors of sexual abuse, all of whom had greater than one years’ experience in a therapy that focused on their abuse. The researcher adopted a semi-structured interview format which facilitates partial guidance by the new data introduced by the participant. Transcripts of the interviews were analysed using interpretative phenomenal analysis with a consistent curiosity stance that allowed the researcher to partially bracket their prior knowledge. The analysis resulted in four master themes emerging; i) Finding and Connecting; ii) Negotiating Masculine identity, iii) Accepting and Committing to the process; and iv) Trust. Findings highlighted the necessity of reducing epistemic vigilance in the early relationship and the importance of negotiating power dynamics with support for challenge by the client in order to facilitate trust. The experience of masculine social expectations in a male CSA survivor is explored with regards to the trust relationship and an unexpected finding was made in the importance of group work. These findings were linked to previous research in the area of male CSA, recommendations are made for future research and implications for practitioners were explored.

Dopady používání multimediálních technologií na vybrané aspekty partnerských vztahů / Effects of Using Multimedia Technologies on Selected Aspects of Romantic Relationships

Kulhánková, Eva January 2019 (has links)
This thesis focuses on mapping the action of the multimedia technologies (MMT) on selected aspects of the partner relationship. In the theoretical part the particular components of the relationship (relationship satisfaction, trust, communication and leisure time) and their association with the usage of particular media by partners are described. For the research the mixed methods design was chosen, while in the quantitative part online questionnaire was used, which was filled in by 210 respondents. In the qualitative part semi-structured interviews with three couples were made. The outcome of this thesis is a description of the frequency and ways of using MMT, mapping effects on the relationship and overall evaluation of advantages and disadvantages of using MMT for the relationship. The results showed that partners mainly use MMT to contact the other partner, mainly to express love. Mostly they use chat to contact each other, then phone calls and text messages. As a disadvantage of the mediated communication partners perceive the absence of nonverbal communication and presence of misunderstanding. To sum it up, the positive effects on the relationship are: frequent contact with partner, use of MMT to express love to partner, full attention from partner without use of MMT, use of MMT for spending...

Optimal Incentives to Foster Cross Selling: An Economic Analysis

Decrouppe, Andre 24 September 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Cross selling is the practice of selling additional products to an existing customer. It has the potential to boost revenues and can be beneficial for both the company and the customer. For many multi-divisional companies with product or service oriented organizational structures the attempt to realize the benefits of cross selling generates incentive problems. In this thesis, three problems spread over three business levels are identified. Firstly, management needs to (financially) motivate business units in fostering their cross selling efforts. Secondly, in order to make cross selling happen, business units need to cooperate and to exchange product-related information. Finally, in order to increase their short-term benefits business units might act opportunistically by selling products or services of other business units without paying attention to adding value for their customers. These incentive problems are theoretically examined by applying principal-agent theory and the theory of repeated games. Our findings suggest that an optimized incentive structure is required to make both the business units and the management better off. The thesis also analyses the circumstances and necessary prerequisites under which cross selling initiatives are beneficial for all involved parties. Apart from that cross selling sometimes may turn out to be non-beneficial. In addition to the elaborations above, risks and hazards of cross selling are presented in detail and applied for the extension of the underlying model. Bottom line, the work underlines that cross selling is to be realized holistically to ensure durable success. (author's abstract)

'n Literatuurstudie is uitgevoer om die invloed van skofwerk op mense en gesinsfunksies te bepaal.
