No. of bitstreams: 1 jose_barbosa_silva.pdf: 2171604 bytes, checksum: 1df2a1db8a6d4a7c4db118db95382192 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-09-23 / This research aims to analyze the challenges and prospects of interreligious dialogue from the innovations proposed by Vatican II, as well as its implications in several documents in the post-conciliar period, particularly in the Intruction Dialogue and Proclamation. Faced with the failure of the Magisterium of the Church in addressing the issue, the controversies raised in the various spheres of ecclesial institution, Theology of Religious Pluralism by Jacques Dupuis can better locate the problem by proposing that all religions are included in God's plan of salvation for all mankind, recognizing them as ordinary paths of salvation. The attitude of the Church in relation to non-Christian religions has been marked by ambiguity, breaking thus with the pastoral guidelines issued by the Council that urges Christians to discover the positive values of these religious traditions. In this sense, the Declaration Dominus Iesus, will open a crusade against the theologians supporters of pluralism in order to stop the advance of this new paradigm for theology, fomenting a speech with exclusivist tendencies that fails to engage in a dialogue with the modern world, plural and secular.

The reflection takes into account the opening promoted after Vatican II, which dealt with the salvation of non-Christians and members of other religious traditions, emphasizing that this perspective does not negate or reduce the value of religious identities, especially in the case of the Christian faith, the relevance of Christ, but leads them to a deepening and maturing, motivated by dialogue and a lovely and co-responsible encounter. In the particular case of the Christian faith, as an example, it would be reinterpreted from the dialogical encounter with the other faiths. In the particular case of the Christian faith, as an example, be reinterpreted from the dialogical encounter with the other faiths. The same should occur with any religious tradition. It is considered that such a vision, in a certain sense, supplants other models such as exclusivism, which considers Jesus Christ and a Church as the exclusive way of salvation; Inclusivism, which considers Jesus Christ as the way of salvation for all, albeit implicitly; and Pluralism, which is a relativistic perspective in which Jesus is the way of salvation for christians, for others, the way is a tradition, with no greater efforts of self-criticism, revision, and mutual interpellation. In other words, all religions participate of the salvation of God, each one by himself and in his own way. The approach and the dialogue between the various religious traditions helps them to build and rebuild their founding identities and principles.

When narratives create community: standing with children against stealing

Morkel, Elizabeth 30 November 2002 (has links)
At a Muslim school a group of boys with a reputation for stealing got the opportunity to share stories with communities of concern. Honesty meetings, honesty tests, honesty certificates and honesty celebrations formed part of narrative therapy ways of working together to try and regain reputations for honesty. As an outsider researcher/therapist I was confronted by stories of slavery, racism, unemployment, poverty, crime and violence. Through collaboration with a cultural consultant it became possible to do theology and pastoral care as a Christian in a Muslim community in a respectful and ethical way. The sharing of stories of pain and resistance contributed to the mutual care and community amongst participants from communities separated by racism and apartheid legislation as well as differences of culture and religion. Reflections on this journey mark a migration of identity for me as researcher, therapist, Christian and white South African practical theologian. / Practical Theology / M.Th. (Pastoral Theology)

Managing cultural diversity in the South African police service (Gauteng province): the role of a chaplain

Mofamere, Thabo Joseph 30 June 2003 (has links)
Chapter 1 discusses the research proposal of the study. In this proposal the problem statement was identified and described, for example it is shown how the diverse religious work-force is being managed and ministered to by a traditional chaplain as if it shared a religion similar to that of the chaplain. Further this chapter discusses the research methodology, which clearly indicates the path that would be followed in this research. Chapter 2 looks at the profile of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in general. It has been shown that the SAPS forms a critical component of the criminal justice system. The objectives, mission and vision of the SAPS has been clearly outlined as aspiring to create a crime free society for all the inhabitants of South Africa. The SAPS would only acquire this vision through executing its tasks within the framework of the Human Rights Act. Chapter 3 focusses on the historical development of the chaplaincy in the SAPS since its inception during the year 1952 until the democratic dispensation in 1994. The pioneers behind the formation of the chaplains' corps are discussed. Lastly, the appointment procedure, the functions and the characteristics (qualities) of chaplains are looked at. Chapter 4 considers the various perspectives of culture and cultural particulars as a basic theory of the study. The latter has clearly indicated that people's views and understanding of certain things differ completely. Hence the need for proper cognisance of cultural diversity by the chaplain. Chapter 5 examines the concept of stress in the context of the SAPS. The stress-inducing factors, the impact of stress on SAPS members as well as the role of the chaplain in the management of stress levels is discussed. Chapter 6 explores the theology of death and the bereavement process (stages) to be followed generally. The role of the chaplain in this regard is shown. Chapter 7 is the quantitative investigation, whereby questionnaires elicited the views of both the policemen and women about the Chaplain Service ministry. Chapter 8 discusses the conclusions of chapters: 4, 5, 6 and 7 and synthesises them into one comprehensive idea. The reason behind this is that this study has to provide a model to be developed, which would better enable the chaplain to function across both cultural and religious lines. / Religious Studies and Arabic / D.Litt et Phil.(Religious Studies)

Religious education in Zimbabwe secondary schools : the quest for a multi-faith approach

Ndlovu, Lovemore 06 1900 (has links)
This study explores the problem of a bibliocentric Religious Education curriculum in Zimbabwe amid the quest for a multi-faith curriculum. It traces the history of Religious Education, how it was started and crafted by the so-called missionary propagandists in order to suit their dogmatic interests. Two main aspects of the christianization of the Religious Education curriculum are highlighted, namely cultural alienation and indoctrination. Two post-independence teaching approaches, the life experience approach and the multi-faith approach are discussed in a comprehensive manner as possible solutions to the problem of Religious Education in Zimbabwe. An empirical analysis and evaluation of the views of various stakeholders about post-independence developments in Religious Education is also presented. Finally, relevant findings, conclusions and recommendations critical to successful Religious Education teaching are presented. / Teacher Education / M. Ed. (Didactics)

Pluraliteit binne die sewendedag-adventistekerk

Horn, Ruan 30 November 2005 (has links)
Daar is tans polarisasie rondom verskillende sake. / The aim of the dissertation is to create awareness regarding plurality within the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The concept "plurality" refers to differences and group forming, while "pluralism" refers to an ideological view regarding plurality. Differences and disputes were very much part of the Millerites or Advent movement out of which the Seventh-day Adventist Church developed. The conviction that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is God's remnant church leads to the exclusive "truth" claim of Adventists. Consequently, the remnant theology is facing the challenge to deal with differences and group forming in a constructive manner. Presently there is polarization within the church on various issues. Seventh-day Adventists will find it beneficial to dialogue about the opportunities that a practical-theological approach offers in dealing with plurality. Theory that accounts for empirical realities will contribute to the development of a theology that will be aware of the needs of people. There is a discussion of the approaches of Van der Ven and Tracy. / Practical Theology / M. Th. (Practical Theology)

Religious education in a multicultural society : an examination of the expanding context of religion and multiracial families

Wilson, James R. 11 1900 (has links)
Text in English / In this study, an attempt was made to examine the impact that the multiracial identity is having on the institutional Church and in its attempts to address the problem of racism in the United States. An effort will be made to explore the emergence of anti-racist paradigms that both- move outside the social construction of race and an ideology of racial hatred and which empower people of all hues, ethnic an linguistic groups. Particular emphasis will be placed on those approaches which de-emphasize majoritianism and a need to assert one's superior, moral, historic and pragmatic claims. A strong challenge is given to the Church to re-orientate its imagination away from the chimera of achieving a physically integrated institution in a color blind society and towards a clearer vision of empowerment in a fair and just society, incorporating pluralism in a shared framework. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / M.
