The Effect of Interval Training on Resting Blood PressureNielson, Camilla May 01 March 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Purpose: An experimental study to examine the effects of CardioWaves interval training (IT) and continuous training (CT) on resting blood pressure, resting heart rate, and mind-body wellness. Methods: Fifty-two normotensive (blood pressure <120/80 mmHg), pre-hypertensive (120-139/80-89 mmHg), and hypertensive (>140/90 mmHg) participants were randomly assigned and equally divided between the IT and CT groups. Both groups participated in the assigned exercise protocol thirty minutes per day, four days per week for eight weeks. Resting blood pressure, resting heart rate, and mind-body wellness were measured pre- and post-intervention. Results: A total of 47 participants (15 females and 32 males) were included in the analysis. The IT group had a non-significant trend of reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP) and increased diastolic blood pressure (DBP) while the CT group had a statistically significant decrease in awake SBP (p=0.01) and total SBP (p=0.01) and a non-significant decrease in DBP. With both groups combined, the female participants had a statistically significant decrease in awake SBP (p=0.002), asleep SBP (p=0.01), total SBP (p=0.003), awake DBP (p=0.02), and total DBP (p=0.05). The male participants had an increase in SBP and DBP with total DBP showing a statistically significant increase (p=0.05). Neither group had consistent change in resting heart rate. Both groups showed improved mind-body wellness. Conclusion: IT and CT reduced resting blood pressure, with CT having a greater effect. Resting heart rate did not change in either group. Additionally, both IT and CT improved mind-body wellness.

Previous issue date: 2015-12-18 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) / Introdução: A frequência cardíaca de repouso é um marcador clínico importante e de fácil mensuração, servindo também como uma ajuda no prognóstico de alerta a uma precoce deterioração clínica, entretanto ressalta-se que são limitados os números de estudos epidemiológicos que tiveram como objetivo verificar a frequência cardíaca de repouso em populações jovens e fatores de risco associados. Outro fator importante que ainda consiste em uma lacuna na literatura é o uso de aparelhos oscilométricos de pressão arterial na medição da FCR. Objetivos: Analisar a sensibilidade e especificidade do aparelho de pressão arterial na detecção da FCR em adolescentes. Examinar se a prática de atividade física constante nos diferentes domínios (escola, prática esportiva e ocupacional) é associada a menores valores de frequência cardíaca nesses jovens. Métodos: No primeiro estudo participaram 55 indivíduos, com idade entre 10 e 15 anos, foram realizadas avaliações antropométricas e a avaliação da frequência cardíaca de repouso, utilizando de forma simultânea o aparelho oscilométrico de pressão arterial e o monitor de frequência cardíaca. No segundo estudo 1011 indivíduos entre 10 e 17 anos, sendo que 454 eram do sexo masculino e 557 eram meninas. Foram realizadas avaliações da frequência cardíaca de repouso, antropométricas, comportamento sedentário, prática habitual de atividade física, hábitos tabagistas. Resultados e conclusão: Média/alta correlações foram encontrados (r = 0,80) entre o monitor de frequência cardíaca e aparelho oscilométrico. O coeficiente de correlação intraclasse apresentou valores de 0,88 (0,66-0,96) para as meninas e 0,90 (0,82-0,95) para os meninos. A sensibilidade foi de 70,0 (34,8-93,3) e 80,4 (28.4- 99.5) e a especificidade de 86,6 (69,3-96,2) e 90,0 (55,5-99,7) para meninos e meninas. Foram encontradas diferenças significativas na diminuição dos valores de frequência cardíaca de repouso com a atividade esportiva nos meninos -0.58 (-1.05; -0.11), nas meninas -0.87 (-1.34; -0.39), ao verificar a prática de atividade física ocupacional, foi detectado somente para os meninos -1.60 (-3.05; -0.18) e na atividade física total em ambos os sexos, meninos -0.52 (-0.92; -0.12) e de -0.67 (-1.07; -0.28). O aparelho oscilométrico mostrou boa reprodutibilidade e moderada sensibilidade e especificidade para medir a frequência cardíaca de repouso em adolescentes. Supõe-se que a prática de atividade física esportiva e total para os dois sexos e no ocupacional para a amostra do sexo masculino, são associados a menores valores de frequência cardíaca de repouso. / Introduction: The resting heart rate is an important clinical marker and easy to measure, also serving as an aid to alert prognosis early clinical deterioration, however it is noteworthy that the number of epidemiological studies that aimed to are limited check resting heart rate in young populations and associated risk factors. Another important factor which still consists of a gap in the literature is the use of devices oscillometric blood pressure measurement of HRR. Objectives: To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of blood pressure device to detect the FCR in adolescents. Examine the practice of constant physical activity in the various areas (school, sports and occupational practice) is associated with lower values of heart rate in these young people. Methods: In the first study participated 55 individuals, aged between 10 and 15 years, were carried out anthropometric measurements and the evaluation of resting heart rate, using simultaneously the oscillometric device for blood pressure and heart rate monitor. In the second study 1011 individuals between 10 and 17 years, and 454 were male and 557 were girls. Evaluations were carried out of the resting heart rate, anthropometric, sedentary behavior, habitual physical activity, smoking habits. Significant differences were found in the reduction of heart rate values of home with the sporting activity in boys -0.58 (-1.05, -0.11), in girls -0.87 (-1.34, -0.39), to verify the practice of occupational physical activity, It was detected only for boys -1.60 (-3.05, -0.18) and total physical activity in both sexes, boys -0.52 (-0.92, -0.12) and -0.67 (-1.07, -0.28). The oscillometric device showed good reproducibility and moderate sensitivity and specificity to measure the resting heart rate in adolescents. It is assumed that the practice of sport and physical activity overall for both sexes and for occupational male sample, are associated with lower values of heart rate at rest.

Title Repeated individual comparasion of heart rate on the land and in the water. Objective Find if exist significant difference of heart rate in repeated measurements between rating heart rate on dry land and in the water. Used methods The quantitative empirical research was carried out. The research method was the measurement of resting heart rate. Measurements were carried out in the form of intraindividual comparative analysis among six probands who were repeatedly tested supine for 5 minutes on land and subsequently 5 minutes in water. The water temperature was 30 řC and the water column height was 30 cm. Heart rate was measured using sporttester. Results The same tendency of reaction of the organism during repeated measurements did not confirm in 4 cases. Results in two cases confirmed the trend of decreasing heart rate during a stay in the water. The most measured resting heart rate decreased in water compared with the resting heart rate on dry land by 21.1% and increased the most by 6.1%. Previous issue date: 2012-03-27 / Durante o repouso, a atividade colinérgica predomina sobre o nódulo sinoatrial. Assim o mecanismo de controle da Frequência Cardíaca pela atividade vagal, juntamente com a diminuída demanda energética, irão determinar a frequência cardíaca de repouso (FCR) de um indivíduo fisiologicamente íntegro. A FCR possui importância reconhecida como indicador independente de saúde cardiovascular, relação com doenças não cardiovasculares, além da sua utilização em fórmulas, questionários e protocolos relacionados ao exercício físico. Apesar da reconhecida notoriedade da FCR na prática clínica e física, ainda não foi estabelecido um modo de medição com evidências científicas, que sustentam a existência de um padrão. Desta forma o presente estudo procurou investigar, através de dois artigos, de que
forma a FCR vem sendo utilizada na prática profissional de profissionais de Educação Física, no que tange as formas de medição (tempo, posição), cuidados pré e durante (substâncias interferentes e condições ambientais) e objetivos da medição. Além disso, testar e propor aplicações práticas da FCR mediante tempo e postura corporal de medição. No primeiro estudo foram entrevistados profissionais
de Educação Física, através de um questionário composto por oito questões sobre a forma de utilização da FCR, tais como, importância da variável, período de repouso antes e durante a mensuração, posição corporal, equipamento, e condições ambientais (temperatura, luminosidade, substâncias interferentes). De acordo com os resultados apresentados pelas respostas dos questionários, pôde-se concluir que
o uso da FCR pelos profissionais de Educação Física, não possui uma padronização para sua medição, havendo divergências estatisticamente significativas nos critérios de utilização e avaliação. No segundo estudo foram avaliados 39 indivíduos jovens (21 homens e 18 mulheres), submetidos a avaliações em repouso em duas posições, supina e sentada, cada uma com a duração de 60 minutos. Os resultados
mostraram que as medições realizadas em apenas cinco minutos não eram
diferentes estatisticamente das medições realizadas nos 60 minutos. Além disso, na
posição sentada a FCR é 12% maior que na posição supina, retratando diferença
estatística. Estes resultados se repetiram entre gêneros e entre indivíduos mais e
menos ativos. Portanto, de acordo com os resultados dos estudos, pôde- se verificar
a inexistência de consensos para a medição da FCR entre os profissionais de
educação física. Entretanto o presente estudo propõe a medição para homens e mulheres jovens mais e menos ativos, utilizando 5 minutos de repouso, registrandose
a média deste período e observando a posição medida para as devidas
correções. / During rest, cholinergic activity predominates over the sympathetic system. Thus the control mechanism of Heart Rate by vagal activity, together with the reduced energy requirements, will determine the frequency resting heart rate (RHR) of an individual physiologically intact. The RHR has recognized as important independent predictor of health cardiovascular disease compared with non-cardiovascular, beyond its use in formulas, questionnaires and protocols related to exercise physical. Despite the notoriety of the RHR recognized in clinical practice and physical not yet established a method of measuring with scientific evidence that support the existence of a pattern. Thus the present study sought investigate, by means of two articles, how the RHR has been used in professional practice of physical education professionals, regarding the forms of measurement (time, location), and during antenatal care (substances
interference and environmental conditions) and objective measurement. Furthermore, test and propose practical applications of RHR through time and body posture measurement. In the first study were interviewed education professionals Physics, through a questionnaire consisting of eight questions on how to use of the RHR, such as importance of the variable, rest period before and during the measurement, body position, equipment, and conditions environmental (temperature, light, interfering substances). According with the results presented by the questionnaire responses, we conclude that the use of RHR by physical education professionals, has no a standard for its measurement, with differences statistically
significant use and the criteria for evaluation. In the second study were studied 39 young subjects (21 men and 18 women) who underwent evaluations at rest in two positions, supine and sitting positions, each with for 60 minutes. The results show that measurements made on only five minutes were not statistically different measurements performed in 60 minutes. Furthermore, in the sitting position is 12% higher HRH that in the supine position, portraying statistical difference. These results repeated between genders and between more and less active individuals. Therefore the According to the results of the studies, it was possible to verify the absence of consensus for the measurement of HRH among physical education teachers. However the present study proposes to measure for young men and women more and less active, using 5-minute rest, recording the average this period and noting the position measured for the corrections.
