Tires recycling: analysis of the impact of environmental legislation through the reverse logistics.

Carlos Alberto Ferreira Lagarinhos 06 October 2011 (has links)
The discarding of dischargeable tires has becoming a worldwide problem. Logística reversa: proposta de um modelo para acompanhamento da sustentabilidade de um processo produtivo de Ref PET / Reverse logistics: model proposal for monitoring the sustainability of a productive process of returnable PET bottles.

Paula Carolina Ciampaglia Nardi 10 October 2013 (has links)
The increased consumption, and waste generation, and the new proposals of development concepts, and sustainability practices have caused society to reflect about these events, inciting discussions regarding the life cycle of these products. In this context, the reverse logistics concept (RL) was developed referring mainly to the economic aspect. But, considering that the RL concept is based on sustainability, it is important to monitor the practices including those that concern social and environmental effects. Connecting to this and to two other factors: i) the fact that some studies have identified that RL processes does not always guarantee economic improvements for the company, whereas economic effect was related to intrinsic factors in the process, and ii) Pet is easily accessible by the population, resulting in large amounts of long decomposition waste; the objective of this research was to identify which decisions regarding inherent factors in the production process involving RL Returnable PET Bottles can impact sustainability. In this sense, the proposal is aimed to the development of a model to analyze the economic, social and environmental benefits, based on information from the process, so that the company can monitor and improve the balance of this tripod in its production process, seeking to guarantee or identify changing needs to achieve sustainability. The development of the model occurred by means of literature review and exploratory study in a soft drink industry, which allowed knowing in detail the process of Returnable PET Bottles involving RL. This step was fundamental in order to define the inputs, indicators and sub-indicators that formed the three indices: economic, social and environmental. The transformation of the indicators into indices was obtained by applying technique of factor analysis, and, after the finalization of the model, sensitivity analysis was conducted, which allowed identifying the most representative intrinsic factor in the process for each index. Therefore, demonstrating with this model that the company can simulate scenarios for decision, identifying the impact they will bring upon the sustainability of the production process. Since it is possible to identify the sensitivity of each index compared to the inherent factors in the process. Thereby, the company can take decisions seeking economic, social and environmental balance in their business, seeking actions to maintain, performing an important role in society. Thus, the proposed model can assist a company in identifying the impact of their reverse logistics process in the three indices, monitoring the evolution and taking steps to improve them. Furthermore, the model allows analyzing the sensitivity of the sustainability of the process in the case of input variations. Finally, the study brings more details on the specific characteristics of a Reverse Logistics process of Returnable PET Bottles, contributing to the literature and future studies in this research line.

Jonason, Oskar, Anderung, Mia January 2017 (has links)
During the last decade the society and industries have been more influenced by sustainability to decrease the effect on the environment. Due to this and the tougher legal requirements from the European Union, industries and researchers have put together more effort in sustainable development. This has led to a more focused view on reverse logistics to enhance the recycling of materials and reduce transportation. The purpose of this work has been to plot and analyze the return flow in paper industry. To see how reverse logistics could contribute to a sustainable society and increase the profitability of companies. The work is a case study for BillerudKorsnäs at the Customer Service Mill department. The information about the return flow at the case study company has been acquired through interviews and organized visits. The acquired information has then been analyzed with the help of the theory and summarized in the conclusion with the factors that affect the return flow with improvement proposal for a more sustainable and profitable return handling. The study shows that for an effective return flow in paper industry an organization for return handling need to be created. They also need to work with forecasting and follow-up of the defect material to reduce unnecessary transportation and protect the environment. Nyckelord: reverse logistics, supply chain, lean, hållbarhet

An exploratory study of reverse exchange systems used for medical devices in the UK National Health Service (NHS)

Xie, Y., Breen, Liz, Cherrett, T., Zheng, D., Allen, C.J. 16 November 2015 (has links)
yes / Purpose This study aims to provide insights into the scale and use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in managing medical devices in the NHS, with a focus on Reverse Exchange (RE) systems, as part of the broader Reverse Logistics (RL) systems, within which medical devices are returned and exchanged. Design/Methodology/Approach Two case studies were conducted with NHS Hospital Trusts, while another was built upon secondary resources. Primary findings were triangulated with information collected from the NHS Trusts’ reports, direct observation and a preliminary round of consultations with 12 healthcare professionals working in other NHS Trusts or Integrated Equipment Community Services. Findings The findings suggest that the sophistication of ICT implementation increases with the risks and value associated with medical devices. Operational attributes are derived from ICT implementations which can positively impact on RE performance. The forces that drive the adoption of ICT in the NHS include pressure from government, business partners and patients, competitive pressure, perceived benefits, organisation size, top management support and the availability of sufficient resources. Obstacles are mainly centred around the lack of sufficient resource. Research limitations/implications Although the Trusts that participated in this research are representative of different regions, the generalisation of the study results may be limited by the size of the sample organisations, so the results can only provide insights into the research problem. As this work is exploratory in nature, there is insufficient data on which to form definitive recommendations. Practical implications NHS Trusts may use the 6 operational attributes identified and verified by the case studies to benchmark their ICT implementation for device management. The actual and potential benefits of ICT implementation could inform technology development and encourage the uptake of ICT in healthcare. Governmental bodies can utilise this information to develop directives to actively drive ICT adoption in device management and the associated RE system. A well-considered training programme is needed to improve staff ICT skills in order to fully realise the potential of ICT systems which support the effective RE of medical devices. Originality/value The results suggest that ICT supported reverse exchange of medical devices backs up the supply chain reduces capital costs and medical risks and, facilitates the redeployment of funds to frontline medical treatment.

Dynamische Produktionsprogrammplanung in Closed Loop Supply Chains mit aktivem Rückflussmanagement

Witek, Carolin 29 June 2017 (has links) (PDF)
