With the release of cultivars adapted to mechanical harvesting, the castor cultivation has become economically viable in medium and large farms, as well like a option for out-of-season (fall-winter) and grain crop rotation. However, there are still many questions about the influence of plant populations narrow row spacing, growth and performance of current cultivars. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the growth and productivity of castor cultivar IAC 2028 in second season, according different population of plants for the narrow row spacing. A study was carried for two years in out-of-season (2010 and 2011), in Botucatu-SP. Randomized block was used with four replications. Ethnographic Narrative

Fortner-Henderson, Svetlana 01 January 2020 (has links)
Svetlana Fortner-Henderson grew up experiencing abuse, sexual assault, and drug and alcohol abuse within the home. She suffered hearing loss as a child, which impacted her education. She went to college, attended graduate school, and worked in the field of environmental toxicology and regulatory compliance. She volunteered in many capacities that influenced her calling to become an educator. She agreed to teach were she was ‘called,’ as she considers that as the implementation of ministry of social justice through science education. She teaches in a high-trauma, deep inner-city setting, where students have experienced similar types of trauma that she experienced. She follows the lives of three students that derive from various backgrounds. These backgrounds contribute to the assets, strengths, and opportunities for growth socially and academically for these students. Svetlana is able to use the tools inherent and applied to educate the three students to benefit other students that have similar opportunities for educational and social/emotional growth. Svetlana deeply reflects on the impact she has made with her students and opportunities she sees for continued personal development within the profession. During her ethography, she modifies and massages her techniques in order to extact quality and usable content, as she seeks to be an effective teacher within a high trauma and high risk school and community. She also modifies her techniques as she believes in continuous improvement of herself and the students she has chosen to work with.

最適行比較與列比較之行列設計 / Optimal row-column design for comparing row effects and column effects

朱佩玲, Chu, Pei-Ling Unknown Date (has links)
We consider the problem of comparing row effects and column effects in the row-column design setup when the row sizes and column sizes are all multiples of the number of treatments. Following the work of Shah and Sinha (1993), we derive a sufficient condition for uniformly optimal designs for given values of the row sizes and column sizes. We also derive a sufficient condition for universally optimal designs when the total number of experimental units is fixed. Several examples of designs with high efficiencies are provided.

Comprehensive assessment of patients with aortic valve disease by non-invasive cardiac imaging

Pouleur, Anne-Catherine 15 September 2008 (has links)
Today, invasive coronary angiography is still the gold standard to perform the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. But it is an invasive procedure that carries non negligible morbidity (1.5%) and mortality (0.15%), and results in high costs. Less invasive and more cost-effective techniques are highly desirable. Over the past 15 years, substantial advances have been made in non-invasive cardiac imaging. In the first part of this work, we prospectively evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of 40-slice multidetector CT (MDCT) to detect coronary artery disease prior to cardiac valve surgery in 82 patients. On a per-patient basis, MDCT correctly identified 14/15 patients with (sensitivity 93%) and 60/67 patients without coronary disease (specificity 90%). Performing invasive angiography only in case of abnormal CT might have avoided invasive angiography in 60/82 (73%) patients without coronary disease. Thus, MDCT could be potentially useful in the preoperative evaluation of such patients, allowing to avoid systematic cardiac catheterization in a large number of patients. Magnetic resonance coronary angiography (MRCA) has also emerged as a promising alternative due to the lack of ionizing radiation and absence of iodinated contrast injection. Therefore, we compared diagnostic accuracy of whole-heart MRCA and MDCT, against QCA, to identify >50% stenosis basis in 77 patients. WH-MRCA acquisition failed in a high number of patients. This was caused by an unstable breathing pattern or drift of the diaphragm position. Because of higher success rate, MDCT had higher diagnostic accuracy than WH-MRCA to detect coronary stenosis. Thus MDCT is superior to WH-MRCA, however WH-MRCA can perform as well as CT in interpretable segments with adequate image quality. In the second part of this work, to evaluate whether MDCT and cardiac magnetic resonance (cMR) might allow simultaneous assessment of aortic valve area (AVA), we compared measurements of AVA by MDCT to cMR, transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography. AVA by MDCT and cMR correlated highly with AVA by other techniques. In our study, we compared 3 planimetric approaches to AVA calculated by the continuity equation using TTE. We did observe excellent correlations between planimetric and continuity equation-derived AVA, but all 3 planimetric measures were found to overestimate continuity equation AVA. A potential explanation for this observation could be that we measure different aortic valve orifices. Indeed planimetric techniques measure the true dimensions of the anatomical orifice, whereas the continuity equation measures the "effective" orifice area. The ability of MDCT and cMR to accurately assess aortic valve area at the time of non-invasive coronary imaging, places these techniques in a strong position for the comprehensive assessment of such patients. However, despite these good results, it must nonetheless be emphasized that to be acceptable in daily clinical practice, a strategy in which invasive coronary angiography would not be performed systematically but rather selectively in only a subset of patients, requires a perfect sensitivity for disease detection in individual patients. Unfortunately, the present work shows that MDCT and WH-MRCA have not yet reached such a level of accuracy. Finally, these tests are not a substitute for other imaging techniques in all cardiovascular conditions. Unlike an echocardiogram machine, the MRI and MDCT scanners cannot be brought to the bedside of an acutely ill patient.

Reducing DRAM Row Activations with Eager Writeback

Jeon, Myeongjae 06 September 2012 (has links)
This thesis describes and evaluates a new approach to optimizing DRAM performance and energy consumption that is based on eagerly writing dirty cache lines to DRAM. Under this approach, dirty cache lines that have not been recently accessed are eagerly written to DRAM when the corresponding row has been activated by an ordinary access, such as a read. This approach enables clustering of reads and writes that target the same row, resulting in a significant reduction in row activations. Specifically, for 29 applications, it reduces the number of DRAM row activations by an average of 38% and a maximum of 81%. The results from a full system simulator show that for the 29 applications, 11 have performance improvements between 10% and 20%, and 9 have improvements in excess of 20%. Furthermore, 10 consume between 10% and 20% less DRAM energy, and 10 have energy consumption reductions in excess of 20%.

Cutting-Plane Separation Strategies for Semidefinite Programming Models to Solve Single-Row Facility Layout Problems

Yen, Ginger January 2008 (has links)
The single-row facility layout problem (SRFLP) is concerned with finding the optimal linear placement of n departments with different lengths in a straight line. It is typically achieved by minimizing the cost associated with the interactions between the departments. The semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation model that incorporates cutting planes proposed recently by Anjos, Kennings, and Vannelli (AKV) was considered a breakthrough in the field. This thesis presents a new SDP model AKV' and compares the two relaxations. The AKV' is largely based on the previous model, but it reduces the number of linear constraints from O(n³) to O(n²). Therefore, it reduces the computing time at the expense of a slightly weaker lower bound. However, AKV' is observed to pay off as the instance size increases. By examining the gap for both the AKV and AKV' relaxations, we notice that both relaxations generate very small gaps at the root node, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the relaxations. Six different strategies are presented to separate the cutting planes for the medium-sized SRFLP. In combination with the two SDP relaxations, we compare the six strategies using three instances of different characteristics. An overall best strategy is deduced from the computational results, but the best choice of relaxations and the best number of cuts added at each iteration changes depending on the characteristics of the instances. Two new cutting plane strategies are proposed for large instances. This allows the solution to optimality of new instances with 36 departments, which is higher than previously published results in literature. We also briefly point out how the computing time can vary greatly between different sets of data of the same size due to the characteristics of the department lengths.
