Trygghet i fysisk planering : En studie om trygghetsarbete i Västernorrland

Many people especially women are feeling unsafe when being outdoors. This leads to restriction in the daily life and a reduced quality of life. This problem can be reduced by awareness in the physical planning. The aim of this study is therefore to examine how three municipalizes in Västernorrand are working with physical planning to create a safer environment. The study is based on interviews with planners and local plan documents. The local plan document is used to see structures and the interviews is to how the planners are working for creating a safe environment by physical planning. The study shows that the local planners are aware of the importance of planning for a safe environment. The study has located deficits in the support from higher instances and cooperation between different instances in the municipality. By giving the planers more support for the safety-planning, it could come more natural and have a bigger importance in the physical planning.

Frames in a social movement for safe public spaces : Problems meeting new solutions

Safety in public spaces has become an issue of increased concern and attention in India, after incidents of sexual harassment and violence against women. The need for safe public spaces was formulated in the civil society in New Delhi and can be described as a social movement. Mobilization and mechanisms behind is studied in a theory-based analysis to learn more about social movements. Results can be of general importance in understanding the role social movements may play in work for safe public environments, not only in New Delhi, but elsewhere as well. The purpose of the thesis is to i) describe the work by social movement on safe public spaces among three central actors within the movement and ii) analyze the movement´s success in its mobilizing efforts and highlight mechanisms of importance. The study is a qualitative case study in New Delhi. The empiric material was collected through a document study and semi-structured interviews. Frame theory was used in study design and data analysis. The analysis showed common problems perceived by the actors as overall fear, patriarchy and urbanization, while working methods and solutions differed. The main difference was a result of digitalization and activities on social media in a cycle of protest. Motivational frames portrayed vulnerabilities, challenges and opportunities for women getting attention and motivated to engage. It has resulted in a diverse movement, shaping new ways to reach out taking advantage of new technology.

Syftet med denna kunskapsöversikt är att sammanställa vad forskningen säger om hur elever talar om religion samt hur talet påverkar undervisningen. Vår empiri består av vetenskapliga artiklar och myndighetsdokument primärt mellan åren 2011 till 2019 med fokus på en svensk och norsk kontext. Materialet analyseras och diskuteras i förhållande till den svenska skolan och lärarpraktiken. Resultatet visar bland annat att talet påverkas av en sekulär norm, av huruvida klassrummet upplevs som tryggt samt att konflikter lätt uppstår i friktionen då olika religiösa värderingar yttras.

Sensing and Decoding Brain States for Predicting and Enhancing Human Behavior, Health, and Security

The human brain acts as an intelligent sensor by helping in effective signal communication and execution of logical functions and instructions, thus, coordinating all functions of the human body. More importantly, it shows the potential to combine prior knowledge with adaptive learning, thus ensuring constant improvement. These qualities help the brain to interact efficiently with both, the body (brain-body) as well as the environment (brain-environment). This dissertation attempts to apply the brain-body-environment interactions (BBEI) to elevate human existence and enhance our day-to-day experiences. For instance, when one stepped out of the house in the past, one had to carry keys (for unlocking), money (for purchasing), and a phone (for communication). With the advent of smartphones, this scenario changed completely and today, it is often enough to carry just one's smartphone because all the above activities can be performed with a single device. In the future, with advanced research and progress in BBEI interactions, one will be able to perform many activities by dictating it in one's mind without any physical involvement. This dissertation aims to shift the paradigm of existing brain-computer-interfaces from just ‘control' to ‘monitor, control, enhance, and restore' in three main areas - healthcare, transportation safety, and cryptography. In healthcare, measures were developed for understanding brain-body interactions by correlating cerebral autoregulation with brain signals. The variation in estimated blood flow of brain (obtained through EEG) was detected with evoked change in blood pressure, thus, enabling EEG metrics to be used as a first hand screening tool to check impaired cerebral autoregulation. To enhance road safety, distracted drivers' behavior in various multitasking scenarios while driving was identified by significant changes in the time-frequency spectrum of the EEG signals. A distraction metric was calculated to rank the severity of a distraction task that can be used as an intuitive measure for distraction in people - analogous to the Richter scale for earthquakes. In cryptography, brain-environment interactions (BBEI) were qualitatively and quantitatively modeled to obtain cancelable biometrics and cryptographic keys using brain signals. Two different datasets were used to analyze the key generation process and it was observed that neurokeys established for every subject-task combination were unique, consistent, and can be revoked and re-issued in case of a breach. This dissertation envisions a future where humans and technology are intuitively connected by a seamless flow of information through ‘the most intelligent sensor', the brain.

Safe and Brave Spaces: What Comprises a Fruitful Multicultural Supervision Learning Environment?

Researchers continue to emphasize the important role supervisors have in creating a safe space for supervisees to effectively navigate and engage in honest multicultural conversations while also addressing potential biases (e.g., Ancis & Marshall, 2010). However, much of the literature on multicultural supervision provides limited guidance on what characteristics define a safe space. The purpose of this study was to examine accounts of counseling psychology graduate students to learn about their understanding and definitions of safe space and brave space within multicultural supervision, using grounded theory methodology (Corbin & Strauss, 2015). Specifically, the purpose of the study was threefold: (a) to define what a safe space and a brave space is from supervisees’ perspective, (b) to determine if the concept of a safe space is viewed similarly or differently to a brave space, and (c) to identify specific behaviors and interventions that supervisors perform that make a supervisee feel they are in a safe or brave space. Results yielded a model characterized by three core dimensions that comprise safe and brave spaces including: (a) safety within the physical space, (b), definitions and use of brave and safe spaces, and (c) supervisor actions and behaviors. This study adds to the current multicultural supervision training scholarship by providing new perspectives on how supervisees in counseling psychology doctoral programs make sense of safe and brave spaces during multicultural supervision and what supervisors can do to create such spaces.

Bitcoins roll i en aktieportfölj på svenska marknaden : – Hur det påverkar risk och avkastning / Bitcoin as an alternative investment in a stock-portfolio in the Swedish market : – How it effects risk and return

Bitcoin is an asset that demonstrated a high increase in price since it was launched in 2009, meanwhile it has been a very volatile and risky asset. Previous research has indicated that an allocation of bitcoin in investor’s portfolio could increase return as well as risk adjusted return. Furthermore, bitcoin has been observed to be uncorrelated to many markets; creating diversification opportunities and in some instances acted as a hedge against various stock markets. Due to the similarities between bitcoin and gold they have often been compared as alternative investment assets. Therefore, it is of interest for investors to understand if bitcoin could be included into a stock-portfolio in the Swedish market to increase risk adjusted returns and if bitcoin is a better alternative investment, than gold. Furthermore, if bitcoin could be used as hedge against the Swedish stock market. Three different portfolios with bitcoin were created, 1% bitcoin, 4% bitcoin and 8% bitcoin, the rest of the portfolio constitutes of Stockholm gross-index (OMXSGI). The portfolios are compared to OMXSGI and similar portfolios involving gold and OMXSGI. The portfolios are created for four different periods: 2011- 2021, 2016-2021, the bear market during the pandemic and the year 2020. Results reveals that during normal market behavior an 8% allocation of bitcoin and OMXSGI generates the highest Sharpe ratio. Also, that a small allocation of bitcoin can generate higher returns to lower risk then OMXSGI. During normal market behavior portfolio with bitcoin performs higher returns and Sharp ratio than portfolios with gold but to a higher risk. Additionally, bitcoin is not correlated to the Swedish market and implies that it possibly may be used as a hedge during normal market behavior. During the corona bear market bitcoin has a high correlation to OMXSGI and has a similar negative return but to a higher volatility. Meanwhile gold act as a safe haven during turbulent market behavior. To conclude during normal market times bitcoin creates opportunities for investors to include bitcoin to the portfolio. High allocations of 8% bitcoin might be too much risk for risk averse investors. During the corona bear market bitcoin portfolios generates worse returns to a higher risk and gold is a better asset to hold. Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are assets which have some unique risks that cannot be measured by the Sharp ratio. Thus limit the results and analysis of the study.

This diploma thesis deals with the investigation of possible dangers threatening human health+ that may arise during activities in the construction company P&P Stavební společnost and the health and safety management system in the company. The introductory chapter introduces the construction company and its focus. The next chapter presents the theoretical background and concepts occurring in the thesis. In the following chapter, the risks of a specific company order were identified and quantified using the FMEA method, and the completed "Check-list" required to obtain the Safe Company certificate is given. Lastly, there are proposed solutions to reduce the identified risks and to successfully obtain the Safe Company certificate.

Evaluating the Knowledge and Attitudes of Orthopedic Nurses Regarding the Use of SPHM Algorithms as a Standard of Care

Background: Healthcare workers are ranked among one of the top occupations for musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) injuries that affect the muscles, the bones, the nervous system and due to repetitive motion tasks (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Numerous high-risk patient handling tasks such as lifting, transferring, ambulating and repositioning of patients cause injuries that can be prevented when evidence-based solutions are used for safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) tasks. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of orthopedic nurses regarding the use of SPHM algorithms as the standard of care when transferring patients. Theoretical Framework. Lewin’s Theory of Change Methods. A quasi-experimental pretest-post-test design was utilized in this evidenced-based practice project. Results. Descriptive statistics that evaluated pre and post questionnaires of the orthopedic nurses noted nurses displayed behavioral and attitudinal intent to use the SPHM algorithms as the standard of care to improve patient outcomes by decreasing falls. Although the behavioral beliefs and attitudes reflected acknowledgement of SPHM skills and knowledge, nursing did not improve in their documentation of SPH fall risk as two separate tools were required on each patient. Conclusions: SPHM evidenced-based standards do guide staff to critically examine how to safely transfer and mobilize a patient. Patient fall rates did decrease during educational sessions, prompting the need for on-going education of all staff on the unit that transfers patients. The findings from this quality project may encourage future practice approaches to use of the safe patient handling (SPH) fall risk assessment tool for all patients to prevent patient falls.
