A Service Discovery-Enabled LCD Projector Device

Kale, Jeevan 20 December 2002 (has links)
The widespread deployment of inexpensive communications technology, computational resources in the networking infrastructure and network-enabled end devices pose a problem for end users: how to locate a particular network service or device out of those accessible. Service providers use Service Discovery Services (SDS) to advertise the descriptions of available or already running services, while clients use SDS to compose queries for locating these services. Service descriptions and queries use the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) to encode vendor specific information and device- or service-specific capabilities as well as the actions addressed to the device or service. This report presents the architecture and implementation of a SDS used to locate enabled LCD projectors and use them for presentation. The presentation service provides all the capabilities to the end user so that he can choose the projector device of his interest and use the graphical user interface to navigate thorough the presentation. The presentation service also has the capability to use more than one projector at a time. We use the Universal Plug and Play suite of protocols to establish the communication between client and the projector device.

Pediatric concussion: knowledge and practices of school speech-language pathologists

Stuck, Sarah Diana 01 May 2012 (has links)
The identification and management of concussion is a growing public health issue. The science of concussion research and the clinical management of children and adolescents who have experienced concussion are rapidly evolving, presenting many challenges and opportunities for those serving this population. A concussion can impact cognitive, communicative, academic, and social success; students affected by concussion may be eligible for special education services. The current study is a national survey of speech language pathologists (SLPs) aimed at characterizing concussion knowledge and management in the schools. One thousand surveys were sent to school-based SLPs from 10 states. Twenty-eight percent of surveys were returned and the results offer a snapshot of current SLP practices and support improved identification and management of concussed children. Findings indicate school-based SLPs' uncertainty in some aspects of concussion knowledge and their role in concussion management. Increased training in pediatric TBI and concussion is needed, and research directed at identifying and developing sensitive assessments and effective treatments for pediatric concussion is required to ensure quality service delivery.

Lean Manufacturing tools applied to the metalworking industry in Perú

Arbieto, Miguel, Vasquez, Jose, Altamirano, Ernesto, Alvarez, Jose, Marcelo, Eloy 30 September 2020 (has links)
Small and medium-sized enterprises often rely heavily on their production process to position themselves in the market. However, there are few situations where companies have the knowledge and financial resources to improve their operational performance. This study proposes the use of the tools of the Lean Manufacturing philosophy to reduce most activities that do not add value within the production process. First, the diagnosis of the current situation of the company under study was carried out, as well as the determination of the impact caused by the problems encountered. Secondly, the design of the solution proposal was proposed using 5S, SMED and SLP to mitigate the causes of the previously diagnosed problems. Finally, in the simulation, the production system and the changes proposed obtained a reduction in the lead time, due to the reduction of the unproductive times identified, of 6.79%.

Recherches sur l’opposition entre ser et estar en espagnol : historique de la question, et application à l’étude des variations dans leurs emplois en espagnol spontané contemporain au Mexique / Research on the opposition between "ser" and "estar" in spanish : a review of its treatment and an empirical study of the variation in their use in spontaneous contemporary spanish in Mexico

Garcia Markina, Yekaterina 04 December 2013 (has links)
This empirical and synchronic study focuses on the actual uses of Spanish copulas ser and estar in predicative constructions in Mexican Spanish. The constructions studied here are those which admit both copulas. These constructions have been traditionally distinguished following Carlson’s (1977) Individual-level Predicates and Stage-level Predicates. Nevertheless, we have noticed that some of the occurrences of estar in Mexican Spanish cannot be explained by the Carlsonian distinction. This copula seems to be undergoing an extension process in some of the varieties of Latin American Spanish. Authors have studied Spanish copulas from different approaches and perspectives. To better understand the complexity of the matter, we have established a critical history of this issue. Then, following a discovery process based mostly on our native speaker’s intuition, we analyze the question applying a comparative experimental task between Mexican Spanish and European Spanish speakers, which shows important internal variations among Mexican native speakers. Finally, we propose a multifactorial analysis of our “natural”, i.e. spontaneous, written and oral corpora from different sources, which allows us to compare different patterns, and to identify which ones are significant for choosing estar. To conclude, the various potential semantic values entailed by copula choice are analyzed.

Stepping Up and Taking the Lead: School-Based SLPs' Perceptions and Attitudes of Leadership

Newport, Millie, Saliba, Gabrielle, Smith, Mary C., Louw, Brenda 01 January 2021 (has links)
This research explores the personal perspectives of school-based SLPs regarding their training in, perceptions of, and experiences regarding leadership. Survey research was conducted, and school based SLPs acted as respondents. Results may inform education in leadership, both in student training and in continuing education. Leadership in the field of speech-language pathology is essential to not only advocate for better outcomes of clients and patients, but also to foster an environment for change and understanding for future generations of SLPs.

Generation and difusion of knowledge in LPS.

Silva, Gabriela Scur da 14 July 2006 (has links)
The aim of this work is to understand the new dynamics on creation, diffusion and exploration of knowledge concerning SLPs, assuming that geography and innovation are deeply connected. This environment was studied taking an analysis of two local system of ceramic tile located in Criciúma/SC and Santa Gertrudes/SP. It was developed an exploratory study to understand this phenomena in which were identified the sale and productive structure of some firms, their governance and SLP’s institutional range, with a special focus on the learning processes occurring among the agents. The way the clusters interact with each other and with different agents reveals the importance of the cooperation as well the role of good connections among them. Thus, it became clear that external knowledge is an essential ingredient in the process of acquiring new methods. The union of all knowledge accumulated results in interactions among all the parts involved. They all are able to learn, to stabilish networks in a spectrum limited according to the technical space of each firm competence which is produced by means of learning processes derived from learning-by-doing and learning-by-using. The probabilities of generating a new knowledge depends on the levels of acquiring competence, abilities, educational level as well as the access to information of external and internal SLPs agents. These same agents are distributed in a certain space and each one of them possesses parts of the knowledge that can be complementary.

The Role of the Speech Language Pathologist in Concussion Management: A Survey Analysis

Johnston, Elise 06 September 2018 (has links)
Primary objective. The goals of this project were to review the current literature regarding the role of the speech-language pathologist (SLP) in concussion management and to conduct a survey of SLPs with experience in concussion care to determine their current practices and perspectives. Design and methods. An online survey consisting of 41 questions was emailed to SLPs throughout the U.S. and Canada. Responses were anonymously collected from 60 SLPs, and the responses were analyzed. Results and conclusions. Results showed that SLPs who work in concussion care are generally knowledgeable and confident despite how recently concussion has become part of SLP practice. There has been improvement in the types of assessment tools used in concussion cases, but there is a need for more sensitive instruments. Findings point to the need for increased availability of concussion training for SLPs and the need for continued research into current clinical practices.
