Delcourt, Jonathan 29 October 2010 (has links) (PDF)

The purpose of this study is to build a whole 3D body scanner. Using lasers and cameras mounted on a scanning platform moved by a single motor and controlled by an embedded controller, a device has been implemented to capture the shape of the entire human body. One application case study (body fat percentage) is presented. The results suggests that the developed scanner can be useful for that particular case study and other like size surveying and medicine.

Exterior inspection of an aircraft using a Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera and a 3D scanner moved by a mobile robot : 2D image processing and 3D point cloud analysis / Inspection de l'extérieur d'un aéronef à partir d'une caméra Pan-Tilt-Zoom et d'un scanner 3D portés par un robot mobile : analyse d'images et de nuages de points 3D

Jovančević, Igor 21 November 2016 (has links)
This thesis makes part of an industry oriented multi-partners project aimed at developing a mobile collaborative robot (a cobot), autonomous in its movements on the ground, capable of performing visual inspection of an aircraft during short or long maintenance procedures in the hangar or in the pre-flight phase on the tarmac. The cobot is equipped with sensors for realizing its navigation tasks as well as with a set of optical sensors which constitute the inspection head: an orientable Pan-Tilt-Zoom visible light camera and a three-dimensional scanner, delivering data in the format of two-dimensional images and three-dimensional point clouds, respectively. The goal of the thesis is to propose original approaches for processing 2D images and 3D clouds, with intention to make a decision with respect to the flight readiness of the airplane. We developed algorithms for verification of the aircraft items such as vents, doors, sensors, tires or engine as well as for detection and characterization of three-dimensional damages on the fuselage. We integrated a-priori knowledge on the airplane structure, notably numerical three-dimensional CAD model of the Airbus-A320. We argue that with investing effort to develop robust enough algorithms and with the help of existing optical sensors to acquire suitable data, we can come up with non-invasive, accurate, and time-efficient system for automatic airplane exterior inspection. The thesis work was placed in between two main requirements: develop inspection algorithms which could be as general as possible and also meet the specific requirements of an industry oriented project. Often, these two goals do not go along and the balance had to be made. On one side, we were aiming to design and assess the approaches that can be employed on other large structures, for ex. buildings, ships. On the other hand, writing source code for controlling sensors as well as integrating our whole developed source code with other modules on the real-time robotic system, were necessary in order to demonstrate the feasibility of our robotic prototype.

[pt] CARACTERIZAÇÃO METROLÓGICA DE SCANNERS ÓPTICOS TRIDIMENSIONAIS POR PROJEÇÃO DE LUZ ESTRUTURADA APLICADOS A ENSAIOS DE COLETES BALÍSTICOS / [en] ETROLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL OPTICAL SCANNERS BY STRUCTURED LIGHT PROJECTION APPLIED TO BALLISTIC VESTS TESTS

FILIPE DMENGEON PEDREIRO BALBINO 01 June 2021 (has links)
[en] This dissertation aims at performing the metrological characterization of three-dimensional optical scanners by structured light projection for application in ballistic vest tests. Three-dimensional scanning techniques have been gaining popularity in recent decades, however the recent use of 3D scanning equipment in ballistic vests testing is a new application for these devices, especially in the characterization of traumas caused by projectile impacts, which motivated the realization of the study. The methodology used was based on bibliographic, documentary, experimental and laboratory research aimed at collecting data using a structured light projection scanner in the context of ballistic vests tests and comparing them with reference values. Procedures for alignment, segmentation, filtering and establishment of reference planes were suggested, which proved to be adequate for the treatment of point clouds obtained from ballistic vest tests. The results confirmed the systematic errors reported in the literature for structured light scanning equipment and made it possible to estimate the measurement uncertainty for the equipment in question. It was concluded that the critical trauma measurement values are correctly measured by the 3D scanning instrument and by using the suggested method for treating point clouds in this context.

We call this system a 3D multispectral scanner because it combines within a stereopair, a multispectral video camera and a structured light projector. We see several application possibilities for a such acquisition system but we want to highlight applications in the field of digital archiving and broadcasting for heritage objects. In the manuscript we first introduce the acquisition system and its necessary calibrations and treatments needed for his use. Then, once the acquisition system is functional, data that are generated are rich in information, heterogeneous (mesh + reflectance, etc.) and in particular require lots of memory space. This fact makes data storage and transmission problematic, especially for applications like on line virtual museum. For this reason we study the different possibilities of representation and coding of data acquired by this system to adopt the most appropriate one. Then we examinate the most appropriate strategies to compress such data, without lost the generality on other data (satellite type). We perform a benchmark of compression strategies by providing an evaluation framework and improvements on existing conventional strategies. This first study will allow us to propose an adaptive approach that will be most effective for compression and particularly in the context of the compression strategy that we call Full-3D.
