Eighth-grade students reading nonfiction literature on the IPAD| An exploratory case study

Cardullo, Victoria Marie 08 March 2014 (has links)

The intent of this qualitative research study was to investigate the experiences of eighth-grade readers as they read nonfiction text on an iPad for academic purposes. Analysis of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) calls for close reading requiring readers to interact with the text to create meaning (Fisher, n.d.). With this in mind, the researcher investigated reading strategies students used to support their reading as well as what role the iPad features played in the reading process. Several theoretical perspectives informed the framework for this study: (a) New Literacies theory, (b) transactional theory, (c) constructivist theory, and (d) metacognition theory. These perspectives focused on the reading comprehension strategies students used to facilitate reading comprehension while reading nonfiction text on an e-reader, specifically on an iPad. Data sources for this study included the following: (a) retrospective think alouds; (b) student questionnaire about iPad knowledge and experiences; (c) pre-study student interview; (d) post-study student interview; (e) Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI); (f) student observations; and (g) teacher interview. Preselection data for the collective case study participants were used to identify proficient readers who displayed confidence, competency, and control over text. The criteria used for participant selection included (a) reading skills using Lexile Levels, (b) MARSI survey, and (c) iPad use survey to determine prior knowledge of iPad. Three themes emerged in the collective case study that were directly related to the analysis. Students used a combination of (a) reading comprehension strategies, (b) nonfiction features, and (c) iPad features to support their reading of nonfiction on the iPad. Analysis of the data revealed three distinct groups for which recommendations were made: (a) classroom teachers, (b) publishers, and (c) researchers.

Middle school girls| Perceptions and experiences with robotics

Hyun, Tricia 18 August 2014 (has links)

The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the impact a robotics curriculum might have on the experiences and perceptions of middle school girls in two California classrooms. The research found that middle school girls in two different California classrooms felt that their experiences with robotics were personalized experiences that were positive and rewarding. Additionally, the girls felt that robotics was a curriculum that they could relate to real-life, and it was a curriculum that was relevant to their lives. The research found that girls had perceptions about STEM fields that remained sex-biased, and they perceived that certain occupations were more geared toward woman than men and vice versa. Both teachers provided learning environments that were free from sexist constructs.

Ramonienė, Vilija 14 July 2011 (has links)
4. Parengti rekomendacijas, kaip socializacijos programos tinka ugdyti tam tikras bendrąsias kompetencijas ir gyvenimo įgūdžius... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Schools implement a lot of various programmes of socialization. Valentonienė, Inga 27 February 2014 (has links)
Bakalauro darbe analizuojamas informacinių komunikacinių technologijų naudojimas ugdant specialiųjų ugdymosi poreikių turinčius vaikus bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje. Darbe atlikta mokslinės ir metodinės literatūros analizė, anketinė apklausa. Tyrimo tikslas – išanalizuoti informacinių komunikacinių technologijų naudojimą, ugdant specialiųjų ugdymosi poreikių turinčius mokinius, bendrojo lavinimo mokykloje. Tyrimo uždaviniai: 1. Pristatyti specialiųjų ugdymosi poreikių turinčių mokinių sampratą. 2. Išanalizavus mokslinę ir metodinę literatūrą įvertinti informacinių komunikacinių technologijų naudojimą specialiųjų poreikių turinčių vaikų ugdymosi procese. 3. Ištirti specialiųjų ugdymosi poreikių mokinių ir pedagogų požiūrį į informacinių komunikacinių technologijų naudojimą ugdyme. 4.
